- In case you missed it, this week we shared our £45.4bn rail improvement plan for the next five years. 👷♀️ 🏗️
It includes developing a more resilient railway and giving you the best train performance possible.
And we've put climate change at the heart of this plan.
We’ll invest about £2.8bn in activities and tech to help the railway better withstand the impacts of severe weather:

#CP7
Government not spending enough again! CP6 had £48B, CP7 now has £45B. Considering there has been inflation as well, this means a lot less spending from the government. This means we will only get more unreliable train journeys and more disruption!
How about Electrification of the Calder valley line? Leeds - Manchester (Via Bradford) and Leeds - Preston??
The whole network should be electrified already. Its a disgrace that we cant even do that
How do the drones work do they just inspect the look/where the problem is?
Yes using laser technology too
Unfortunately, from the perspective of Brighton Line users, it's what (as usual) ISN'T in CP7 which is most noticeable.
On a weekend where weather related damage to infrastructure is again adversely affecting services, the lack of redundancy in a critical portion of the network is once more highlighted.
I'm aware this is a political decision, rather than one which lies within NR's remit, but that missing 8 miles between Lewes and Uckfield is desperately needed. Has been for years and that situation ain't about to improve by itself.
This big plane doesn't explain how you shut down high output renewals, loosing 18 years work. Maybe you should be honest in telling the public how you are slashing maintenance budgets and times and prioritising passenger trains. If we go down the current planed path, The next 5 years will be more landslides and more ageing rail snaping. Hope the general public realises how bad its going to get.
Best I understand it, that budget cutting is because the gov have underfunded NR yet again.
You guys should reopen the railways that have been left abandoned by the beeching cuts
Because it's just that simple.
What about using the railway to help towards Green energy that the railway can benefit from
