Sky drop glitch in pokemon

I get it was a glitch but how does that work? Idk what sky drop and gravity is though... So idk what it did to pokemon. Was it a benefit or a negative?

It was a benefit cause Sky drop was bringing both the user and enemy’s pokemon into the air, while gravity made moves involving flying unusable.
