I consider the 2014 US Albums false advertising. That’s not really what you’re getting. You’re getting the U.K. versions in a US album playlist. Get the 2 Capitol box sets or get “import” CD’s with all the true US mixes made from sealed reel to reel copies as the master. The cassette (discontinued in 1995) has the original stereo mix. Edit, I want the echo and reverb.

Wait until the Capiphone project!! That takes care the Capitol Albums box sets, once and for all!!-all of the mixes that were exclusive here in the states are included, but so are the Uk,German, and Canadian, too!!Everything in mono and stereo!!

That rainbow stereo copy at 1:25 is not an original, it's a 1983 repress. It looks like the newer LP was possibly stuck in an older cover and inner sleeve. The correct cover for that '83 repress was made of thin poster board. If it's made of thicker cardboard with a pasted on slick, it's the wrong cover.

Hey,Jeff-the AHDN program in The Capiphone Project will feature You Can't Do That and She Loves You as the last two songs in the program, from the Second Album, both mono and stereo will be the reverbed mixes(to mirror the concert towards the end of the film).

The Hard Day's Night soundtrack(on UA,of course,as is Help!) and Help are both all vocal and film-based,literally.All mixes heard exclusively in the films, are finally on audio,on these soundtracks!!ADHN with the bass line over"earth should I moan"line is present, and Tell Me Why(with the alternative vocal phrasing, exclusive to the film mix,is here. And I Love Her is single-tracked(as in the film),but also runs at the same pitch(slower),as in the film!I'll cry Instead is the 2:05 mix,as on Something New,however, there is a mirror mix in STEREO(debut here) on the comp on Capitol of both films called "Movie grooves"

Your rainbow stereo is not an original. It is actually the very last pressing of that album before it was deleted. The cover is possibly original.

The mono mix on the original release was all the stereo tracks folded down.

    • @classic_colin

Only the five covers from the UK “With the Beatles” album were fold-downs, along with “Thank You, Girl” (which is a fold-down of the unique US stereo mix with harmonica). The other tracks are all dedicated mono mixes, and “You Can’t Do That” is a unique U.S. mono mix which is drier than even the UK mono mix from AHDN.

Hi Jeff. i liked your video! ♥ Thought you'd like to know: Dave Dexter Jr. of Capitol Records was responsible for the mega echo and reverb on the Second Album.
He was (famously) THE American who kept rejecting the Beatles throughout 1963; it wasn't Capitol as an entity. Just the one schmuck they put in charge. "Love Me Do" "Please Please Me" and "She Loves You" (wow) were all crummy non-starters, in his view. Yes, even as Beatlemania was out of control in the UK and the band was performing for the Queen ... Dave said thumbs down. Yoy. In fairness: he hated a lot of British bands at the time, declaring them failures. Moreover, he intensely disliked ALL rock and roll! In a 1956 memo, he complained that the music business was being driven by the tastes of children, smearing hits by Elvis Presley as "juvenile and maddeningly repetitive." Proving yet again that the worst people are often put in charge of things.
    (sigh)
Dexter was the one who, when grudgingly FORCED to give the Beatles a chance in the States, unceremoniously chopped up their albums (and continued doing so against their explicit wishes, which had been made known to him). He was also the one who declared Parlophone's (George Martin's and the Beatles') mixes to be inferior ... and proceeded to dump a TON of reverb and echo onto them. He claimed this was done to meet "Capitol's standards" for American audiences. Many would argue it was little more than vindictive sabotage from a petty little man (old enough to be John's father), who took it personally when his arbitrary rejection of the group was rejected. By the planet.
Only 12 days after John Lennon was murdered in 1980, when everyone everywhere was in the deepest of immediate mourning, full of grief and love for John ... Dexter savaged Lennon in a new Billboard article. Still bitter about getting demoted at Capitol in 1966 due to his incessant mistreatment of the group (who had had enough of it) ... Dexter thought THIS MOMENT was the best time to tell everyone how great HE is, and how terrible John was. Geez. Classy huh? He falsely painted John as a miserable, rude prima donna who hated children, hated fans, and was hated by everyone else in music (including the other three Beatles). People were absolutely incensed and Billboard was forced to apologize.
Dave Dexter Jr. passed away in 1990. But his legacy serves a warning against music-industry bozos who hate music, hate young people and treat artists' gems like dirty pocket change. Anyway. Thanks again man ... i'll check out more of your vids! ♥

Thanks for that information and thanks for watching! I had no idea and it really is a pity that one person was given the authority to mishandle such a tremendous catalog!

      @@jeffwhitchervinyldestinati4486 Agreed! Cue George's "Isn't It a Pity" ...
But which version? And from which release? That will be a LONG video when you get to All Things Must Pass, haha. ♥ As with anything Beatle-related, opinions are very divided. Which is OK (like, i pretty strongly disagree with some of your views on Beatles stereo releases so far, but we all have our own ears and a right to like what we will.) There's:
      A) The 1970 original release.
      B) George's 2000* remaster which he said was much much better, and included new and unreleased tracks. *Technically released in January 2001, but i think of it as 2000.
      C) The 40th anniversary 2010 remaster which was a numbered, limited edition.
      D) The 2014 remaster (again with this?) in "The Apple Years" box set, which was released standalone in 2017.
We surely haven't seen the last of it. i was very skeptical when i heard that the White Album for example, was being remixed in 2018. Unnecessary sacrilege, i said! But the results were truly good. ATMP has never been remixed. Even George commented in 2000 that Spector's production added way too much echo, and was too loud. So if there was ever an album to give a remix, ATMP is it. Apparently the family are planning a 50th anniversary release later this year: forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/george-harrison-all-things-must-pass-50th-anniversary.887685/page-3#post-23412294
IF it's a remix, i assume Dhani Harrison and Jeff Lynne will be the ones behind that. We'll have to wait and see!
i'm inclined to favour the 2000 remaster if only because George personally remastered it, added unexpected freshness to it (even in the cover art) and said it was much better. It's an expensive album to buy, so i've never bothered with the 2010 or 2014 versions. But if the 2020 edition comes along (and especially if it's a remix), i'm in. ♥
This concludes a far, far longer comment than i intended to make. You said "it really is a pity" and it just made me think of a song title haha. Talk later : )

grandpaChainSmokes Well said! My all time favorite Beatles solo album is ATMP and I have to agree the 2000 remaster is the superior sounding version although I confess I have not compared my Apple Years box set discs to the 2000 set so I may have to do a video on that one. I don’t care for the colorized artwork on the 2000 version but at least it was George’s idea and so I respect that. I have an original Apple pressing of the album on vinyl and one on the orange Capitol label but not the 180 gram release from the vinyl box set. Someday!

Excellent analogy. First Beatle album I bought. It was the mono version. The stereo version is one of a kind, although the ambiance is a little overdone on some tracks.
