I’m still figuring out the WRX but you can take any Subaru STI and simply turn off the traction control (hold the TC button until race mode is off as well) then, in the newer models, make sure the power map is all the way up. The less weight you have in the car, the easier it is to spin and drift without getting bogged down. I have never had any issues breaking anything on the stock Subaru STI’s over the years but inevitably every person that I see try a donut clutch kicks the car at some point.. don’t do that.. it is a street car and not a race car and you need to treat it as such. The easiest way to get it sliding in a donut is to come in with a little speed in first gear and pull the hand brake to get the drift started.. then tighten your donut diameter until you are spinning like a top in one spot. As the tires heat up you gain traction.. so only do about 6 to 10 spins before cooling down the tires.
My car is a 2020 STI and Yokohama V105 tires. In the STI, do you leave the center diff in AUTO when you slide it? Not the power maps, but the center differential settings. I was really curious if you leave your diff in AUTO mode or if you had a special center differential setting in Manual mode. Thank you for taking the time to share. I truly appreciate all the helpful feedback.
