- Bob Dylan's "Changing Of The Guards" covered by The Gaslight Anthem.
Buy it! You find it on "Chimes Of Freedom: The Songs Of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years Of Amnesty International"
This HAS to be the best Dylan cover since "All Along the Watchtower"!
Better than Adele's cover of Make You Feel My Love? I shall be released by The Band? Van Morrison's cover of It's all over now Baby blue? For me those are better ^^
I agree.
Graham Bonnett It’s all over now baby blue
Well, I got to tell ya' something I might not... no no... will like
This is the Cover.

Danke fuer den Link !
Super Song !
Kannte ich bisher nicht !
Freundliche Gruesse
Springsteen’s immense energy and Dylan’s immense poetry, marvelously blended into a rock himn! What a superb cover, bravo to Gaslight Anthem!
It is very rare that I prefer a cover to the original. But this is another level. Brian can cover anything and make it gold
This is a very very difficult song to sing. Every verse is like a single thread following a separate entry and exit. If you miss it, the whole fabric of the song falls apart. This guy doesn't miss a stitch. Very Impressive.
Hey, this song is a BLAST to sing! Pure high-octane FUN.
As a song writer I concur!!
@@riproaring3140 Both you and the OP are 100% correct. This song's an absolute trainwreck whenever I sing it (despite theoretically being right in my wheelhouse) but, my God, is it ever a joy to try.
Brian Fallon is ungodly talented. to take an under-appreciated song by the greatest troubadour/songwriter since...ever? and make it both his own and true to the original is something that not many - if any - people could do. if i heard this song on a Gaslight Anthem album, i'd think it was theirs. this is just an incredible version of an incredible song. There is no one on Brian's level in rock music today.
I always think the same I hope I get to go see him this year
you are so right....
That's their point TheBubitzza.
The lyrics could change your life only a true magical god knows what is going on in the change ov the gardes
Genius!
Brilliant cover. Possibly my favourite Dylan song aswell
Best cover of this song. One of Dylan's five best songs in my opinion.
what a brilliant version, bought this in 77/78 and was always my favourite on the album. this makes the hairs stand up on my neck, seen then twice, great band.
Joy tears down my cheeks! I just discovered that they have a cover of this song, i am amazed! This masterpiece makes joy tears floooow!
Oh, yes, Silvan. Rarely do I bother to post on YT. But this is mind-blowing.
City am Fenster
Amazing cover. I'm 18. have an extensive record collection, love this band also. and wow I was BLOWN away. too bad these guys have broken up.
If you don't know anything about this group; the 59 sound full album is only a UA-cam search away...
From Gaslight to Gene Vincent. Quite a night
They haven't broken up, they've taken a break
They want to take a break so they come back fresh and with good ideas
Still Brians own album is amazing to
hats off! this version is absolutely marvelous. A very beautiful voice, and the band plays great!
Your hearts must have the courage for the changing of the guards. Thanks Mr. D.!
Chills, the second the drums jumped in. Wicked cover.
Why do I always find good music late at night?
Luke Bradley its only right, because its the best part of the day
Best things in life emerge at dark✨
so that you cant turn it up :p i hate it to haha xD
This is FANTASTIC!!!! A hard number to cover but these cats made it their own!
Changing of the guards is my fav Dylan song, and Gaslight are my fav band. What a combo!
This rocks. Highlights both the genius of Dylan and his interpreter.
never heard a better version of this song and i don't think i will ever hear
WOW....dont comment much online, but this is deserving. My all time favorite Dylan song and by god they did it justice!! So good. Really. Amazing
It is evidently the best version ever made of that impossible song. I had not even imagined a cover like that one was ever possible.
Agreed! It is so difficult to pull off. Would love to see Bob's comments on this.
not one damn thing impossible about this song.. and it is only the best version of this song in the mere legend that is in your own mind
I think this is the first time I've seen a cover of a Dylan song where people are actually unanimous in the decision that it's good; usually a massive flame war in the comments. Good job, Gaslight.
I'm very impressed with this version, one of Dylans top ten songs. This group nails the spirit of the song, and adds their own unique interpretation. I like it better than Patti Smith's great version.
Thank You Hattie. You saved me more than anyone in the world. You are the most amazing person out there, no one can top you. Remember that.
He was there when our summera were high and when they left us alone. Quote
When he almost screams saying "but Eden is burning." Dang.
its heartbreaking
best cover, i've ever heard.
This cover gets better everytime i listen to it!
2019...and they just touched me WAY down deep!! WTF?!?! Then went searching for more and found a TREASURE CHEST of unbelievable tunes!! WOW!
I've been following The Gaslight Anthem and really anything Brian Fallon does since 2007. I'm stoked for you to dig in!
Ive listened to a couple of gaslight anthem tunes and have always thought they had serious potential but until now it hadnt quite hit the mark. They didn't just hit the mark, with this, they nuked it man, wicked stuff!!!
Peace
Excellent cover, can't get enough!
As is the case with most Bob Dylan songs.. but it's his amazing ability to tell stories and create lyrics that defines the songs. Timeless stuff :)
In this picture you can see Brian Fallon (singer) is opening hands and totally surrender to the audience and this gives him the complete joy. So if we surrender ourselves to our highest joy we are in the state of fullness right now.
Tremendous cover of a brilliant poem!
heard it so many times...best band, best cover... god damn so good
This cover is on another level. My only complaint is that they cut the final stanza and it’s one of my favorite parts. Aside from that they perfectly captured the tone and feel of the song. 👍
0:57
best instrumental ever 10/10
I have an obsession with the original song and was actually considering doing a cover of it. But after hearing this version its like "what the heck. I could never do one as good as this!!" :))
A stunning version
excelente cover! bob dylan y the gaslight anthem buena banda y un músico genial
Possibly the greatest Dylan cover ever... possibly even greater than Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower.. Possibly....
I always felt like Hendrix cover of Watchtower was good but not as incredible as people made it out to be (beyond his playing.) I like the ghostly feel of the original more. This one on the other hand, perfectly captures the feel Dylan was going for. The only negative is that they cut out the last stanza
Great cover of a great song !
What a great song. They really need to release a new album. They sound better than ever here.
Back here to say how amazing this tune is!! Also Boots of spanish leather: Airborne toxic event!
brilliant cover, such a good band.
Me encantan casi todas las versiones. La canción es maravillosa.
Great version!!
best version by far
Hey, Thanks a lot. I'll be sure to pick that up when I have some time.
Great cover of this song
I think both versions are good in their own way! as they have different arrangements. I just stumble on this, and its a great great cover
Peace will come
With tranquility and splendor on the wheels of fire
But will bring us no reward when her false idols fall
And cruel death surrenders with its pale ghost retreating
Between the King and the Queen of Swords
Ladies and gentlemen, the past and present of folk music: Bob Dylan to the Gaslight Anthem!
i dont really know their music and im a huge dylan fan but this is phenomenal
so awesome, cant stop listening.
Actually, that song was essentially a tribute to "Way over yonder in the minor key" by Billy Bragg, which has unused lyrics by Woodie Guthrie (i think). Brian Fallon never ceases to amaze me with these sorts of references. Search for the song, you'll hear the similarities. Cheers!
Its literally about the changing of the guards.. Realizing in one sense or another you've been doing something too long.. Music.. Military.. And bowing out gracefully for the next coming of younger soldiers or musicians
Listening to this tonight in the middle of a war not far from here.. it sounds creepy and I get what you mean bro
Thanks. I'll check this out.
@MothsInALampshade Hah, loved the Rise Against song too. Probably the best song they did since The Sufferer And The Witness. My favourite so far is Bad Religion's cover of It's All Over Now, Baby Blue.
Sixteen years,
Sixteen banners united over the field
Where the good shepherd grieves.
Desperate men, desperate women divided,
Spreading their wings 'neath the falling leaves.
Fortune calls.
I stepped forth from the shadows, to the marketplace,
Merchants and thieves, hungry for power, my last deal gone down.
She's smelling sweet like the meadows where she was born,
On midsummer's eve, near the tower.
The cold-blooded moon.
The captain waits above the celebration
Sending his thoughts to a beloved maid
Whose ebony face is beyond communication.
The captain is down but still believing that his love will be repaid.
They shaved her head.
She was torn between Jupiter and Apollo.
A messenger arrived with a black nightingale.
I seen her on the stairs and I couldn't help but follow,
Follow her down past the fountain where they lifted her veil.
I stumbled to my feet.
I rode past destruction in the ditches
With the stitches still mending 'neath a heart-shaped tattoo.
Renegade priests and treacherous young witches
Were handing out the flowers that I'd given to you.
The palace of mirrors
Where dog soldiers are reflected,
The endless road and the wailing of chimes,
The empty rooms where her memory is protected,
Where the angels' voices whisper to the souls of previous times.
She wakes him up
Forty-eight hours later, the sun is breaking
Near broken chains, mountain laurel and rolling rocks.
She's begging to know what measures he now will be taking.
He's pulling her down and she's clutching on to his long golden locks.
Gentlemen, he said,
I don't need your organization, I've shined your shoes,
I've moved your mountains and marked your cards
But Eden is burning, either brace yourself for elimination
Or else your hearts must have the courage for the changing of the guards.
Peace will come
With tranquility and splendor on the wheels of fire
But will bring us no reward when her false idols fall
And cruel death surrenders with its pale ghost retreating
Between the King and the Queen of Swords.
Such a good song
Some Lyrics are wrong
Which version do you prefer hun? Bob Dylan's or this?
Damien Darlington this one
Very very good Cover. Its not easy to make a good cover from a Dylan Song. But this is really great.
I can't stop listening to this. It might be my favorite dylan cover ever, including hendrix's all along the watchtower. Does anyone know if they have done any other dylan songs?
No one covers All Along the Watch Tower better then Dave Mathews!
You find it on "Chimes Of Freedom: The Songs Of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years Of Amnesty International"
soooooo very good!!! love dylans musik :)
This song is amazing.Sounded perfect for "Mary, queen of scots" (movie- 2013)
i can see Horrible crowes, Bob dylan , Ziggy marley and Frank turner in the suggestions very happy :)
Raspy voice like Bruce & Dylan. I HATE covers of perfect songs (don't even talk to me about everybody's cute "Brown Eyed Girl") But Gaslight nailed "Changing of the
Guards" The Dylan song that 30 + years ago I'd dance around my living
room with babies T & J in my arms.
Absolutely amazing.
This was the smash hit of the whole Chimes of Freedom CD they did 100% what you need to do to cover Bob Dylan and i would say it is as good if not better than Dylan's my only complaint is they left off that amazing last verse
00:41 so springsteen. so good
Love it!
WOW!!! This is really good! :)
Think this is my favourite cover of all time
Try Patti Smith's version
I Love this song, Its Fantastic.
great band cant wait to se them again
Sounds Great!
They own this song, this is brilliant!
What a Band!!!
fine version, well done
Great cover, but nobody does it better than Dylan.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH !!!
@Spiritualeggi they are ! brian did his horrible crowes side check that out , and he is writing the new one right now .... he's been touring on the revial tour
Thanks :)
I love this version almost as much as the original
The singer definitely puts more overt heartbreak into the delivery
Beautiful, slow rock I love it..
song gave me goosebumps
i'll agree with you on the all along the watchtower, but you must listen to the dylan version from the boudokan album. it's very different to hendrix, but i think it stands up to it. fellow music lover, you must hear this.
AWESOME.
my breath is taken away :)
Agreed. As with Rise Against's version of Hollis Brown. Sometimes it takes a great songwriter to write an amazing song for someone else to perform. Just like Bruce Springsteen's Ghost of Tom Joad, no one could have played it as well as Rage Against the Machine did.
Essa música me emociona! Viva Dylan!!!
One does not simply effectively cover Bob Dylan. Except for this. (And Emerson, Lake, & Palmer's cover of "Man in the Long Black Coat.")
I couldn't agree more mate.
Check out 'Red at night', it's a very good song of theirs that is almost certainly inspired by Dylan :)
I want hear this song!!!
Genius!
made my day
Well I never...
Thanks for that!
@EskimoRockRolle I don't know... Have you heard Rise Against's cover of Ballad Of Hollis Brown? ;) That's just because I'm a huge RA fan :P
Direct tytrics, Stab to my heart!
I love this version-would love to hear what people think the story is about. Also could someone download Raphael Saandiq-Leapord Skin Pillbox Hat-it is so great.
soldiers returning home. warm memories contrasted by cold realities. illusion and disillusion.
@EskimoRockRolle agreed, however - Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower = the exception that proves the rule.
Not an easy one to cover. You feel they are putting in their all, you have to I guess for a Dylan song..
