- Baby baboon competes for foster mother's ffection. International Women's Day is on March 8th! Today, we are following Alma Van Dorenmalen, the Head of Animal Care at Lilongwe Wildlife Rescue Trust in Malawi, to rescue and rehabilitate the newest and cutest arrival - a baby baboon nicknamed Doodle Bob.
The team at the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust in Southeast Africa is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating injured and orphaned animals, ensuring they get back into the wild where they belong. Malawi is one of the poorest countries in Africa and resources are scarce, so the team has to make do and improvise. Power cuts are common, the rainy season inundates the center, but work must go on. July 2020 update: After being fostered by Kezi, Doodle was integrated into a larger troop. He is well-liked by his new family and spends most of his time with adult male Batista. He is still very close with his foster brother Fox.
That's a nice story for a change,there's too many "orphaned"baby's on u tube,being mistreated by their captors.

Who would want a baboon as a pet? I mean they're cool and everything but they're also dangerous wild animals. A fully grown baboon could kill a full grown human male without much effort. This video is so sweet. It brought a tear to my eyes.

@@gavinlundie2310 yes baboons never hurt people, they focus on killing the weaker baboons in their pestilence troop. And they also hurt babby baboons when they try and use them as shields during their fights. So besides all the killing that baboons do, the idea of them hurting people is rubbish indeed! Unless they are stealing food out of rubbish bins, that is not rubbish because it's true!
Yea but u only keep them as a pet for a year or so, then have it gave an ‘accident’ and then get another baby baboon
Without much effort? I mean physically we are much stronger, the only thing they have is teeth and speed, a fully grown man could totally kill a baboon, but it will probably die of bleeding
I worked with baby Vervet monkeys at the Vervet Monkey Foundation in SA and they are just as cute. South African ppl need to STOP thinking Vervets as vermin and actually care for them just as Baboons here and I love at the end how the mother was grooming the baby the Foster mother program for baboons and vervet monkeys actually really work really well and it's really neat to watch it actually happen in real life
Well....as much as I like monkeys.....they do have the same traits as vermin. And they do cause a tremendous amount of destruction.
Population control isn't inhumane either. We practice it here in the states for very important reasons. And the results have definitely improved things.
I live in Rooi Els in the Western Cape where we have baboons living in our village. They are harmless and have never ever injured a person here in over 60 years. I see them almost every day. People need to be educated.

Great to see a successful release. The nice lady sure nailed it. A foster parent is critical for teaching accepted behavior in the troop. True for all of them, I think.
Why would someone want to own a monkey let alone a baboon. Did this person forget how they look and how strong they are when they get older.

@@collectorofcats294 I don't think they do, it's mainly orphaned wild animals & baboons too. But only when they are infants and, "cute," because who wants to save a juvenile or adult? It's like the professional way of getting a babby monkey and keeping it as a pet, then releasing it into the wild - in a much nicer way.

Infant's are stolen from their mothers by kidnapping or simply killing the mother to get her infant.
They are adorable when they are Infants, and everyone wants a cute cuddly monkey.
.once they get older and mature, their primal instincts kick in, and they turn into a dangerous animal.
That's when these stupid owners take their monkey and leave it in the woods and walk away. Eventually he meets up with a male and his harem and ends up dead because he simply does not know HOW TO be a monkey. He is seen as different and an intruder and will be killed or chased off. He will never be able to join a troop and will end up alone
This is what happens when humans adopt these animals.

Just kill them before they start destroying everything around them - baboons are a walking pestilence, they destroy entire crops, ruin the food other animals rely on, horde water areas - they are the coward bullies of the wild, and should be destroyed.

Oh doodle Bob is an adult now (if it wasn't killed in a fight between males) and adult baboons are ugly, therefore no one cares about them. It's probably dead, so at least that's good - all the effort put into baboons is wasted.

I think the animals in that facility are already vetted for diseases and have a routine check up by their resident wildlife vets. If she does wear gloves it's for the animal's protection because humans do spread illnesses to caged animals.

Having That Other "Wild-Child" In the Mix , Screwed Things Up . I Thought They Would Introduce Them Separately ? That Way They Could Do It At Their Pace , You Know , Sniff Each Others Butt and Stuff . Instead , Doodle-Bobs' Demeanor Changes As Soon As He Realizes He's Got to Defend Himself Somewhat , Against the Chaos ?
The problem with introducing them separately is what to do with the one she's already fostering while she's warming up to a new one. The second she pulls the current one out of the cage and puts Bob in, Bob immediately climbs to the top of the totem pole, while the other one gets forgotten about. Once Bob is established and she goes to put the original one back in, there's going to be Hell to pay, and Bob is going to bear the entire brunt of that payment.
If there's any doubt, watch the ending again, then watch it a little closer and pay attention to what older baboon child #1 is doing. Bob has attached himself to foster mom's chest, and child #1 is pissed because that's his spot, not Bob's. I would have loved to have seen the next five minutes or so of this interaction, because I have a feeling that this introduction isn't quite as zen-like as it's shown to be, and because there's no way that older baboon allowed Bob to just waltz in and oust him from his proper seat in the car.
