Solver uses the Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno algorithm which is a non-linear optimization. Quattro Pro also uses the Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno algorithm for its Optimizer tool. Solver looks a "black box" tool, but when you know what it is based on you can kind of understand what the solver does.
Excellent! It will be very helpful for my CVP analysis. I am also looking for a solution- Say I have a column for 50 different values. And I have total of multiple cells. I need to find out those values which actually made that total. (I need this to solve my Bank Reconciliation. I have all the data of individual payment. But sometimes bank made the payment for a bundle of them.)
