Ameer, as a REAL Husker Fan, I’ve always loved you and had much respect for you as a player and person , after this one I got way more love and respect for you. Thank you for everything you did for the state of Nebraska ✊🏾
I remember Ameer getting hurt at a game and the training staff walked him to the locker room. He held the door for the training staff as he was getting taken back. That was the moment he became one of my favorite Huskers. He is a phenomenal athlete and clearly and good man to still think of others when he is injured. Fear Ameer! GBR
I was at that McNeese St game. One of the worst Nebraska games I had been to up until Ameer scored at the end. What a moment. The only time I’ve seen memorial that lit was when Suh picked off the ball late in the 4th vs Colorado and trucked Colorado QB and scored lol
Ok, this was my first listen to bwtb! My goodness, I had no idea. I am a True, throw the bones, #GBR, Husker fan. Will, I had no clue you were so interesting. Amir was Amir, special, wise, and mature. I absolutely enjoyed watching and listening to two Husker Legends, who still play in the League share on a personal level like this. You have a permanent listener, y’all earned it. Can’t wait to hear more. ❤️
Two bros from different backgrounds, different cultures, different races, different stories. Football brought them together, and they are bros 4 life…amazing what sports can do….great episode!!
That's a great answer to the GOAT NU RB question, there's no question if you pop Ameer in the time machine to run behind those 80s and 90s lines he could mess around with 2,000 yards. But he's a different type of runner than a lot of those guys were also, way more shake. Definitely a guy who is a tough player and a tough runner but you would describe him as "elusive" before you'd say he's a "violent" runner. Great interview. Always loved Ameer, love him even more after hearing this.
Ameers segment about embracing "trusting the process" was really well put. Im not an athlete, never have been, but i have learned more about excellence and what it constitutes from athletes than i have anywhere else. No lie, i was able to maintain a 4.0 and be on deans list at my university every semester from what i learned from these guys
I had to rent a vehicle this past weekend while I was out of town for business. I got to drive a 2021 Chevy Silverado for 3 days. It was amazing. Exceeded my expectations and thought of you boys and agree, it's the best truck. GoBigRed!
@@tacotom3492 I did not watch much of Phillips at Nebraska. But I was a big Rams fan in St Louis when he was drafted there. That is where my memories of Phillips are at. Phillips had a lot of problems in St Louis. Had some good games and not so good. To many off the field problems in his life to be a all around player. But he had all the talent in the world.
Appreciated this podcast. Learning only comes if you except the vehicle from which it’s taught. That’s why coaching has always been a big influence on young men. The wisdom brought from this podcast specifically, and others I watched is said in a way that I accept and am able to understand and translate.
You are exactly correct Ameer. Completely different world now and you just can't even compare apples to apples. You are definitely one of the top in a Damn good group of RB's to come out of The University Of Nebraska.
When Mike Rozier was a Freshman in 1980 Freshman weren't even allowed to play varsity. Rozier all got his yards in 3 years, not 4 so my vote for best running back in Nebraska history has to be Mike Rozier.
I have been around Nebraska Football since the 60s. Rozier, Green, Hipp, Kinney, Redwine, Craig, Rodgers, Jones, Makovicka, Smith, Buckhalter, Schlesinger Rathman, and Phillips are all in the mix. I miss the I-Backs of the past. Chevy Trucks rule
Honestly I think Division 1 should adopt the same playoff style as division 3. With 32 teams . I played for uw whitewater and I thought that worked great for our division. It allows the smaller conferences to get in and see if they can hang with the bigger conferences which they usually can’t.
So many great, great backs. Ameer one of them. Loved to watch him play. But, if I had to pick one overall, it would probably be Ahman Green. Sound and steady, and FAST! The most electric, though, would be Lawrence Phillips. I still watch his few highlights and my mouth just drops. Too sad of an ending there though.
Ameer Abdullah is a flat out stud. Period. Nebraska has had some great RBs. Rosier, Phillips, Craig, Green, Abdullah are all some of the best to play the game. One of the Boys for sure! GBR ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
Ameer is on the right track. Doing all the little things right without even thinking about it. Taking care of those without thinking only makes the larger goals easier. It’s always easy to take the easy way instead of the hard right way.. really surprised he had been taught this way because it’s just not part of younger peoples lives. Listen up, he has got it right. God bless Ameer! GBR ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
Man I really enjoy how comfortable you guys are with the unscripted stuff like talking Vegas. I am one of the top 3 and I'm not 2 or 3. Ha ha! Great interview!
Free shout outs for the 🐺 for getting picked up! Here’s how I would describe Will… Dependable, reliable, gritty, determined just like the Chevy Silverado.
It's always tough to compare players from different eras. Technically players today are generally a lot better than players 20 years ago, and the difference is only more pronounced the further back you go. That being said, comparing to same-era peers it's pretty tough not to put Rozier on top. #1 - Rozier #2/3 - Rodgers when he was in the backfield #2/3 - Lawrence Phillips After that, everyone is competing for 4th - and Ameer is right there. That being said, I would bet that if you put Abdullah through a time machine and placed him in the 70s/80s/90s - he'd be completely dominant if the coaches could figure out how to use him as an RB and not make him a wingback or something.
I'm torn on Bo. And everything these guys said about him is the reason why. He was so good in so many ways, but his demeanor killed the teams chances on more than one occasion. Glad these guys can talk about it honestly.
When you talk about the sacrifices your generation is making for the next, I believe you won’t know what that is until the next generation comes along to the place you’re at now. My son grew up a few years behind will (shout out Josh Cresswell). And the idea that I sacrificed anything in order for him to have more didn’t really feel like a sacrifice to me. It was just the way things were done. You worked harder so your children could have more. So the creation of all the other opportunities now, such as money to be made in gaming or podcasting or any of the other avenues available to you all didn’t come from sacrifice it came from a sense of duty that we all had.
After this one, you need to get Carl P on. Probably to much hidden closet stuff, but jeezus that would be a doozy. I am not sure what you all thought while playing for Bo, Carl and Marvin and all the off the field stuff. I wish you would have asked Ameer if he was in the meeting after Pelini got fired and his thoughts.
Watched him in person run all over my Fresno state bulldogs. Then get drafted to my Lions. First carry he ripped off an ankle breaker for a TD. Still got love for Ameer.
One of my favorite episodes so far. Ameer seems very grounded and disciplined. Nebraska is different.

Itd be dope to get Andy Janovich on the bus.
No, it would be dope to get another Jano at Nebraska….the bus works too
Dude is an athletic freak, though.
Rex Burkhead would be a great guest to have on the bus.
If he was on any other team no one would know him.. 🤣🤡

Lawrence Phillips is the best ever RB at Nebraska...RIP
No doubt about it
Followed by Batman Ahman Green

Great episode.. would love to see you bring in Suh or Lavonte and share same type of stories.
MOST DEFINATLY
I watched Ameer return a kick against Fresno State his freshman year live. Stadium was insane when that happened.

As a Patriots fan I remember that 2015 NFL Draft approaching and wanting the Patriots to draft Ameer Abdullah SO bad, he was a beast at Nebraska
Being a patriots fan i think he would fit nicely in there.
Hopefully Ameer gets the Chance to Ball Out With CAM This Weekend Dude IS Electric on the Feild 🤘🏽

Phillips is the best. He’s 3, which is awesome. I’ve seen them all, Phillips could’ve been a hall of fame in the nfl but… but
Rozier followed by Green, Phillips, Craig, Kinney, then Ameer
The hosts rant about big 10 conference against SEC biases aged well. All emotion
