Yup. The first model was the B-1A, which was Mach 2 capable. A Senator from Delaware who got into the Senate with funny money from the Soviets got on a crusade to kill the B-1A as soon as he got back from meeting with his financiers in Leningrad in 1973. From '73 to '77, he pushed hard to cancel the B-1A program, which finally happened under Carter's first year in office in 1977. Carter's CIA Director had been recruited into the CIA by a Soviet double agent, who was one of the original moles from the 1940s. The Senator's name, you ask? Joseph Biden When Reagan campaigned in 1980, he promised to revive the program, which then became B-1B. We were on the B-1B Combined Test Force at Edwards AFB from 1983-1985. Our test birds consisted of 4 original B-1A prototypes, in various configurations that were not uniform. Rollout of the first production B-1B was later up at Rockwell's area of Plant 42. @David-fg7ko The XB70 was an incredible aircraft, but by the time the prototypes were built, they were already obsolete by better defence systems in the USSR. I have been past fairford many, many times and no it isn't, fairford is pretty much flanked by busy roads on at least two sides and there is no official viewing area unlike some other bases, but there is places where you can sometimes pull up to view the incoming aircraft, but some of the nearby quieter roads actually have better views than when you are right up by the base, because you can't really see the aircraft facilities from most roads and the runway is one of the longest in the UK so sometimes being a bit further away is actually better especially when the bombers are taking off and landing because the entire ground just shakes as they roll down the runway and just after take off, they are seriously loud to the point that they have previously shattered windows nearby which had to be replaced with triple pane and/or bulletproof glass depending upon the location of the property in relation to the airfield, fairford is definitely unique, I remember when air force one landed there!!!!!

My grandfather could see war coming and at 18 years of age signed up in early 39' and served as front gunner on Sunderlands until 46' (204 squadron) - some of the stories he told me were from the heroic to the bizaar. My mum still has his log book referencing all sorts of events from the North Sea, Irish Sea, Mediterranean & the West Coast of Africa. He was one of the fortunate ones to survive the 2nd World War and he will always be my idol - a true hero.
The Lough Erne flying boats, particularly the Catalina's with longer flight duration, flew sorties day and night in all weathers, lasting between 14 to 22 hours. All crewed by young men with more courage than myself. Glad to hear your grandfather made it through with stories about his experiences.
Why do you mention ‘Russian fighters’ in this video’s description when none are shown in the video at all? Respectfully, I feel your description is deceptive, even though the video of the B-1 bombers during landing is excellent.
Looked a little dangerous for them to be landing so closely together. If the second jet had landing problems, it could have veered off the runway and crashed into the other jet. I think that's an unnecessary risk not worth taking and easily avoided by greater separation. At least another 10 seconds separation.

Lets hope no others do.
Number 1 was little hot on rollout. Seen them smoke the brakes
Looked like a full stabilator deflection too! Probably first time at Hereford.
Always thought the Hustler and the Lancer were the coolest designs.
The Vulcan was beautiful too.
At approximately 2.00 minute mark as the lead B-1 breaks there's something that trails off behind it. Lower Centre screen.
Where is this located?
No commentary or explanation of what’s going on. :-(
"War has made so much money at the cost of pple's lives.." "Have nothing to do with it. 😈
Is this normal deployment or something else?
Even though those planes are from Texas. I was stationed at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota when our base received their B1 Bomber squadron in 1986.
I love seeing American air power on display and maintaining FREEDOM all around the world. God Bless of military as they are a nessasary to fight evil.
By looking at the tail codes they came from Dyess AFB in Abilene Texas.
Hello mate, not common I comment on UA-cam videos but I just wanted to ask
How long are these beauties staying here, I was planning on going on Friday the 2nd of June and would love to see one of them
Secondly how common is it that they will fly in and out of the base? Because I've been to other airbase where its potluck really, just all about being patient.
good question , how do we know if you're a spy or a terrorist ?
Truly magnificent beasts.
I have parked and refueled this airplane, and I will say it is one of my favorites 😍. Bad ass in air, and on the ground..
Where is the voice over?
My favorite aircraft awesome! Dont mind the A10 Warthog either brrrrp
Arrive where?
RAF Fairford
Bone and Blackbird. The two best looking aircraft ever!!
You know what ruins a good video? shutter sounds through the whole video
Wait!... where that water came from?... Uh, I just wet myself watching this beautiful plane!
I've been inside a B1B before. It was impressive, but not as impressive when I saw how little the bomb bays were.
Don't they carry Like 65k lb of bombs?
@@nathanielalaburgDelhi 75,000 lbs max
Only enough room for a couple of cans of instant sunshine.
I thought the same thing. It's clear what its mission was when it was designed.
Why are you standing next to the guy with the crazy motordrive
No, you miss the point. A carrier in Oslo? B-1s on the move? Knock it off. It's not our fight.
Very fitting that a blackbird serenaded the two planes landing.
