USA wanted Russia weakened... Who is weakened? Russia is much stronger than ever now. Managed to battle test their superior new missilles, enlarged their huge country and gained several milions of new citizens , destroyed NATO weapons inside Ukraine, depleted NATO´s weapons stocks, on the top of that is winning the economical war. Large majority of people on this planet(cca 85% of world´s population) is supporting Russia . NATO became isolated. We(Czech Republic) joined NATO to be safer, not to spark nuclear war together with terr*rist USA which blew up Germany´s Nord Stream last year !!!! BTW , russians are good and clever people, not any orcs. Rusophobia is disgusting and was invented by terr*rist USA.
Russia is huge superpower and will always be. NATO countries can only affoard fighting each other as already happened(USA blew up Germanyś Nord stream). What an insane organization !!!!

Yup. The first model was the B-1A, which was Mach 2 capable. A Senator from Delaware who got into the Senate with funny money from the Soviets got on a crusade to kill the B-1A as soon as he got back from meeting with his financiers in Leningrad in 1973. From '73 to '77, he pushed hard to cancel the B-1A program, which finally happened under Carter's first year in office in 1977.
Carter's CIA Director had been recruited into the CIA by a Soviet double agent, who was one of the original moles from the 1940s.
      The Senator's name, you ask?
      Joseph Biden
When Reagan campaigned in 1980, he promised to revive the program, which then became B-1B. We were on the B-1B Combined Test Force at Edwards AFB from 1983-1985. Our test birds consisted of 4 original B-1A prototypes, in various configurations that were not uniform.
Rollout of the first production B-1B was later up at Rockwell's area of Plant 42. I remember it well.

I worked at an air base as a civilian and where we worked was off to one side of the main airport runway but there was an old hanger and taxi areas but there were never aircraft anywhere near there in the 6+ years I worked there. Came into work one morning and right next to our fence was a B-1B. I was blown away seeing this just be there one day. We got to go look at it, from the outside only. This was in about 1989 maybe? The aircraft had it's own crew and security detail. Was a great experience seeing it up close and as one commenter said, it is a big aircraft in person. 2 days later went to work and it was pppft.....gone lol.

I have been past fairford many, many times and no it isn't, fairford is pretty much flanked by busy roads on at least two sides and there is no official viewing area unlike some other bases, but there is places where you can sometimes pull up to view the incoming aircraft, but some of the nearby quieter roads actually have better views than when you are right up by the base, because you can't really see the aircraft facilities from most roads and the runway is one of the longest in the UK so sometimes being a bit further away is actually better especially when the bombers are taking off and landing because the entire ground just shakes as they roll down the runway and just after take off, they are seriously loud to the point that they have previously shattered windows nearby which had to be replaced with triple pane and/or bulletproof glass depending upon the location of the property in relation to the airfield, fairford is definitely unique, I remember when air force one landed there!!!!!

nowadays the B1 can only carry conventional bombs due to a treaty between Russia and us it that limited the amount of nuclear bombers and USAF decided to keep the nuclear capability of the B52 and the B2 so that's one difference another difference is that the B1 is capable of going supersonic in short bursts another difference is that the b1 is far more stealthy than the B52 the B52 has the RCS (radar cross section) of 100m2 while the B1 has the RCS of 10m2 but its still no where near as stealthy as the B2 which has the RCS of 0.0001m2 the same RCS as a bumble bee

The B1s have a certain "don't f with me " look about them, while still looking poised, graceful and elegant. A lady you would invite for an elegant luncheon or supper, looking super cool and refined, yet capable of breaking the asshole neighbour's door down and unleashing all manner of hell if required. I wondered when/if the B1s would be coming over. Beautiful birds. Not as pretty as Concorde, though.

There are only 2 "bombers" on my bedroom shelve, the Catalina and the Sunderland. Both flew from Lough Erne, from Killedeas and Castle Archdale, in Northern Ireland, far out into the Alantic on submarine patrol. These 2 bases lost 330 airmen between 1941 and 45. I live close to both locations and no modern bomber has made it onto my shelf beside them. As for the models, they are large metal Corgi 1:72 scale limited edition.

My grandfather could see war coming and at 18 years of age signed up in early 39' and served as front gunner on Sunderlands until 46' (204 squadron) - some of the stories he told me were from the heroic to the bizaar.
My mum still has his log book referencing all sorts of events from the North Sea, Irish Sea, Mediterranean & the West Coast of Africa.
He was one of the fortunate ones to survive the 2nd World War and he will always be my idol - a true hero.

The Lough Erne flying boats, particularly the Catalina's with longer flight duration, flew sorties day and night in all weathers, lasting between 14 to 22 hours. All crewed by young men with more courage than myself. Glad to hear your grandfather made it through with stories about his experiences.

Looked a little dangerous for them to be landing so closely together. If the second jet had landing problems, it could have veered off the runway and crashed into the other jet. I think that's an unnecessary risk not worth taking and easily avoided by greater separation. At least another 10 seconds separation.

Secondly how common is it that they will fly in and out of the base? Because I've been to other airbase where its potluck really, just all about being patient.
