Breath of the Wild truly changed something about me. A few months ago I was still studying a triple degree in France, far from my family. I spent every single minute of each one of my days studying, feeling kinda sick of what I was doing. I remember taking a shit at 6:40 while studying, and from that momento until 9:45PM. A year ago in April I had a huge burnout, before having a mental breakdown during summer holidays, nonetheless at that time I started playing Breath of the Wild just to escape that feeling of being empty, alone, exhausted and unfree. For the first time I felt that nobody expected me to do anything, that I had the freedom that I was looking for. It truly was a relief from my life. I loved so much this game that when I adopted my second cat, I named her Mipha. I could spend a thousand lines describing how meaningful and special BOTW is to me, but many have done the same, and I’ve got things to do too 😅. I couldn’t finish the game though, my PC broke, so the following year, this year, my last year, I spent half of the time listening to this kind of videos and BOTW ambiences. I managed to do it, to finish the three degrees, and the first thing I did when I finished was to build my new PC just to play once again BOTW. Don’t worry though, I bought the game too. Link was my companion all of this years during my hardest times. I don’t know if it is my imagination or what, but I felt that in the game he was as happy as me to be where we were. Or at least it is what I thought when I heard him laugh when cooking, or shield surfing and resting. I thought that just like me, he enjoyed the freedom, him from not being a knight anymore and having the possibility to explore the world and experience shit, me from escaping reality to a world where I could do whatever I want. My second playthrough was 123 hours long, because I tended for several minutes just watching the sunsets and the sunrises, walking and scrutinising the scenery. I loved everything about this game, I still do, and I’ll never forget how it helped me to have hope in the worst time of my life yet. Life is kinda good now, but I’ll never forget how it was back then. I’d like to say to those going through a similar type of shit that, even if you feel like it, don’t make definitive decisions for temporary problems. Life is hard for everybody, but it is always just a phase. Bad times come and go, be patient and even if you don’t feel like it, focus on surviving one day at the time and be hopeful that better days will come because they will.

This game did that for me too. My parents got divorced the week after BotW was released. I don't know how I would've coped with the crippling isolation without learning that sometimes it's okay to take a breath and enjoy the silence. I also met the community, who have done massive things to change my life for the better. Thanks so much for this comment, I actually teared up a little reading it.
What a beautiful story. And you managed to do so much even at your worst! I admire the perseverance. I feel similarly about both breath of the wild and the sequel. They do wonders at those points in my life when need to stop and just breathe for a bit.
I miss my childhood, I miss spending all my summer holidays playing Zelda The Wind Waker on my gamecube. The time when we cared about nothing but our favorite video game and what we were going to eat in the evening. I'd love to go back and enjoy this again. Being a child isn't bad, it's an opportunity to live, that's why I'm so grateful that Zelda was part of my childhood, it made me live.
I love those days too except i was about 18 or so when windwaker landed. As i kid i played the original zelda and funny enough i just came to bed from playing zelda botw. I have an untouched skyward sword, totk and echoes of wisdom. I realised we are never to old to be ourself. If zelda makes you happy and forget about your daily worries then play zelda.
