I think the development vs evaluation conversation intersects a bit more than you gave it credit for… yes the NFL teams have a MASSIVE scouting ego issue where they see a kid with tools and say “oh I don’t care about the bad I can fix that, look at the upside”… but also, coaches are given one year and then fired with regularity nowadays. that leads GMs/coaches to put young, unseasoned players on the field early instead of letting them sit and develop purely because they were drafted high and the owner sees all the memes and comments about the team being bad online so they start breathing down the coaches neck saying “you told me this was your guy why is he sitting/not playing well?… maybe I should bring someone better in to coach him”
