    I’ve followed Michael Card since I became a Christian in1987. I’ve had the pleasure of attending his Lament Seminar in 2016. Today is Valentine’s Day, 2021. I am spending my 3rd week in the hospital for COVID related double pneumonia. I poured out many healthful tears while reviewing notes & lectures from the 2016 conference. No visitors are allowed & I certainly miss my family, but I wouldn’t exchange this opportunity to walk with Jesus in the Wilderness for anything!

    I never heard of Michael Card until I became Catholic. His recording of "Be Thou my vision" brought me to tears. I'm so glad that Michael Card is ecumenical with other Catholics like John Michael Talbot. Great guy.

    I became a Christian in 1984 and soon after, watched Michael perform El Shaddai on "The Rock Gospel Show" (UK). I fell in love with the biblical content and easy to listen to music of his songs. I have found strength, encouragement, knowledge and a deeper longing to read the scriptures because of his songs. We played "Jesus let us come to know you" in 1989 and 1998 at our babies funerals which helped us in our grief. I am indebted to Michael and certainly God for giving Michael his ministry. I would love to one day thank him personally.

    Just wanted to say thank-you Michael Card for all those word songs! No greater power except God himself than His word. A friend was sharing with me how our birth certificates are ownership, how we are all slaves. Hallelujah

    The Biblical answer in pain is praise- the Lord taught me this when we had a stillborn daughter at term- not jumping about praise but a gentl submission to His will in our lives- later we see no pain is wasted and much fruit comes from our pain. The Bible tells us we will have trials and to rejoice

    It's like his songs are strong and deep but they have such great rhythm so they feel happy even though they might be heavy.

Enneagram fours and perhaps all of us need lament!! Loreena McKennitt song Dante's prayer really helped me a lot too

    Christ was called "A man of sorrows' and many Christians forget that and get on the 'hype' train...that is not realistic...We do have joy in the Lord...but sometimes we have pain that brings us closer to Him ....

    So the start was at a small black church -
    but how did you, a white kid from a wealthy family,
    get started at a small black church ?
    And how did you first come to know the Lord as your savior ?

    • @FairelightSilverwing
      @FairelightSilverwing 6 років тому +1

      He grew up Mennonite... like Amish, but more in touch with salvation by grace and interacting outside the Mennonite community than the Amish. I never knew he was from a wealthy family.

      Dr. Lane was the pastor of that church while Mike was attending Western Kentucky University. It was a small black church, but students flocked to it to sit under Dr. Lane. That’s where I started going to church when I gave my life to the Lord in 1977 and met Mike there. I remember us sitting in a circle in the back room on Wednesday nights and sharing with the Lord had been teaching us during the week and looking at him thinking, “he’s too holy for me.” I had my eye on him, but I was a baby Christian and he was way out of my league spiritually. Always kind, always thoughtful, and always a gentleman. And he always had something profound to say. He’s the real deal.

    This is so funny because I feel like there's so many songs out there about suffering as Christians and "no one understands you and you're not alone" wawawa and all of that honestly, as someone who has struggled I preferred more of an escape music so I would prefer joyful music in my suffering. But I never really saw Michael's music as negative and downing like a lot of the modern music these days.
