My absolute favorite vocalists....this dude can sing 90 different styles (operatic, jazzy, gospel, contemporary etc.)in one song...and it all blends together perfectly!
I loved Rev. Moore. His last tour was with "God Don't Like Ugly". We went to the airport to pick him up and I was in the back of the van. He (I'm tearing up typing this) was talking to the driver and heard me speaking VERY QUIETLY to the person next to me waaaay in the back and he stopped talking and said "WAIT A MINUTE...who is that in the back???" Somebody said "That's Alfred" and he goes "Uh huh...I thought so". Mind you, I was a still a kid then and we had NEVER worked together before this tour and he'd only really known me in passing here in Detroit. Blew my mind! He kept me with him the rest of the tour (which he regretted because I stayed on his HEAD about that diet of his). We'd prank call each other's rooms in the middle of the night imitating Rev. Cleveland. He knew I had confidence issues And he would ALWAYS make me do runs in front of him so he could do better ones than me (he built my confidence without my never realizing it...LOL!!!! I really miss James Moore. He was the real deal
Wow! I miss James Moore too. I would do anything to just have known him like you did! Thats amazing. He was really the last REAL gospel singer. I'm so glad a friend of Rev. Moore's commented on here thank you. I have looked for documentaries or interviews about him or one with him but I couldn't find any. I have seen EVERY youtube video with him too. In fact, my first Gospel DVD purchase was his "Rev. James Moore: Live with the Mississippi Mass Choir" DVD. I still cry at the end with the Endow me song.
***** You bring a very valid point. It is long past time for someone to do a doc on him. His career actually dates back to the 60s. Look up The Community Youth Ensemble with Elma Parham. He was a part of that. In the 70s-80s he was with Dr. Clark and then his solo career took off. His story is definitely documentary-worthy. You could also get some info from Pastor Rudolph Stanfield Sr. & Jr. those are his Uncle and Cousin respectively. Pastor Stanfield Jr. produced James' final CD and Stanfield Sr. actually sang a track.
