Again I have to say his singing in English is far better than what I ever expected from him, I am so very pleased with him as a performer that he continues to surprise me with each new video I find of him. I wonder if he will be doing any American concerts soon.

Not really. Japanese did come from Chinese. In early Japan, language was considered to be masculine, and women were not taught how to read or write. They created Japanese how it is today from the language around them, Chinese. Japanese has 3 character sets, Katakana, Hiragana and Kanji. The Kanji is based on Chinese, and the other two are distinct to Japanese. There's a lot more to it than that though!

people need to understand that its not easy to sing in another language one does not know ..i would like to see one of you critics sing perfectly in another language ..your accent would probably be three times worse! he did a very good job and his accent is very cute :)

Well it's a fact that Miyavi isn't really a singer. I read in an interview with him he originally was his band's screamer/guitarist, I never listened to Duel Le quartz though, but yeah he only went the singer route cause the fans were anxious for him to do something after the band broke up. For a dude who's only been singing 6 years, I imagine less than that judging by when this video was made, he's quite good. He's not even satisfied with his voice though, but he's improved alot in six years.
Okay. I have not listened to Teru or Hakuei. But I think it is pointless to make fun of them. I have listen to Ruki from gazette and Shou from Alice nine. they sing with R's. I point out two from the gazette. I am Just saying that you should not pick on them and that is not all Japanese people that does whatever you point out. 1) silly god disco. are you ready and real cinderella. 2)Shiikureta Haru, Kawarenu Haru The reason for being. Ruki sings r's perfectly. So Please stop making fun of them

It is cute, he is pretty good. My friends that know about Miyavi, they introduced me, say I am just like him in the fact that I am extremely random! Yay Miyavi! They even make me do their hair like his for all Jrock concerts, and when they went to the Miyavi concert last 2 nights ago, they got major complents that they looked just like him with the mohawk. *cry that I couldn't go*.

Not true. "Ren" means person in Mandarin (Chinese) And "Piao Liang" means pretty in the same language, so they can say both. IN Japanese, depending on the dialect, they may say r or l because there is a phoneme right in between them that is similar to both that they use rather than our ls and rs.
It's very good most asians can't pronounce english words cause it has to many special sounds like r and l. They sounds different to us because we can pronounce it try to say r first and then without moving your lips and say L again.
It sounds like a bad r sound so L and R is difficult.
But he's still good.:)
@natbites Im not sure if he does or not actually but I do know that if they do not speak english atall it is very difficult for alot of Japanese to get their accent around english words in talking, imagaine it would be alot harder to sing it lol. He really does have a fantastic voice though ^_^ one of my fave artists of the moment
Well, you just need lesson in engrish, because lipring sure as hell isn't disabling letters, I should know, I have two of those he has..
But like Quinn said, he doesn't really speak english, and he pronounces letters differently from english like just about all japanese do..
Funny thing though, I can understand all he sings anyway. :]

Dragotheone... Japanese people don't have a problem with r's. I don't have to listen to the other vocalists. I could go across the street and talk to my friends from Japan or go to my Japanese teachers. They use r's in their everyday life. Ra Ri Ro Re Ru Ryo Ryu Rya... they don't use L's but the use the R symbols for the L.
they do, listen to the other vocalists and you'll hear.
He has a lot of fans, yeah, and even more fangirls. He knows how to attract ppl and is awesome guitarist. And as I already said I KNOW his disco, I used to be his big fan, but it doesn't make me deaf.
Anyway Miyavi also said that he isn't the best singer but he tries to be better.

Hit the Road. With a R =P. It's so funny how Japanese people can neither produce the English R nor the French/Spanish one and end up having no other alternative but to pronounce R as L.
So, yeah, his accent was weird, but he's undeniably a great singer. Love his voice.

He's good... not outstanding or mind blowing. Again, this is just my opinion.
You can't compare him to the technical prowess and writing skills of Jeff Loomis, Tosin Abasi, etc... I'd list a hell of a lot of others but... I don't have the time now.
purely as an example of a japanese group that actually speaks english well, Puffy Ami Yumi is alright. I'm sure there's a lot more out there, but I'm too lazy too look. :P and korean singers are generally good at english, since our style of pronounciation is more suited for english.
....O.o....what?! i heard him saying hello. I don't mean to be stereotypical, and japanese singers are awesome (as well as asian; I'm korean) but.....unlesss they get a LOT of practice (and I mean a LOT) they should NOT NOT NOT try to sing or speak in english. NEVER.
Hi is also from japan where most of the worlds fashion comes from. Tokyo is the Fashion capitol of the world right now. And im sure if you spoke a single word of Japanese they would say that your Japanese is dire. And String Lubrication helps with playing slide guitar without a slide.

I would like to point out that MYV is also pretty popular in America at this point too, as well as Britain, despite his English. Music transcends language.
Besides, there a dozens of natively English speaking musical artists that can't speak English as well as he does in his song.
Why should he fix up his English? I mean, it's not like hes planning on singing many English songs, hes just having a laugh, so instead of thinking your better than him, because you're fluent in two languages, try playing a guitar as well as him, also singing in two lanuages.
I think he might be spraying oil or water or something to make it easier for him to slide his hands up and down the neck of his guitar..i think.. =.= or i might be completly wrong and sound like an idiot! i like the way his voice sounds when he sings that song. o.o
This in all seriousness is very good.. but of course i expect it was going to be since it's miyavi ... his english is really good but the "R" and "L" thing kinda makes it hard to sing this.. i think the accent makes this really kawaii

damn, his hat is ugly, he wears nail varnish, he needs lubication for his fretboard (a sign that he can't play the guitar, or any other string instrument of that family, properly) and his English is dire. Except for that, what a wonderful video...
its just like 'lubricant' to make slideing his fingers up and down the strigns less 'grippy' sometimes if you lsten to country and country-esque songs you can here the fingers slide down the strings and it can make or break a song.
This was the first video I watched, yes.. But before I said "know who this freak was" I have seen about 5.. He's a good singer and a very talented guitar player but look at that clothes.. I cant take it.. Does he wear make up too ?

wow. he just cannot pronounce any of the words. he could have major succese if he sings something that he can say right. i have respect for the guy he has a good voice and all but english is just not his thang.
i dont speak japanese fluently, i started 4 weeks ago, and my l's and r's are deformed. an when i say my o's sometimes they sound like crap..as in sound..i say my o with an emphasis on o. so its like sowoond.
i didn't mean to say all americans are like that. i was just saying since english is prolly his native language, he wouldn't understand what it's like to learn a language from a completely different origin and stuff.

I gotta say, as much as I do love Miyavi... I know he's pretty much a gimmick.
I find a lot of his songs amazing but... that doesn't mean he's an outstanding player.
@baramui well there is no "r" sound in japanese. so they often replace it with an "l" when theyre learning. why don't you try singing a song in perfect japanese on national tv.
