I believe that you can easily add thorns/leaves by simply applying smaller petals to the stem of the flower. You'd use the same method that is used when making pedals except obviously they'd be cut smaller and green in color.
It really depends on where you get it but usually it costs around 3 dollars or so for a decent sized roll. Colored duct tape usually costs a little more than grey tape.
I've never made a flower over 35 petals but you could try modifying your petals so that there is more of the sticky side available and they should stay on better. Good luck.
You probably applied the petals with a slight upward slant. Try placing the petals on with each row slightly below the one above it and you should get the flower in this video.

Personally, I'd do the last step in reverse. Like, do the small "support ones before the longer ones to cover the pipe cleaner. Wouldn't it look a little cleaner, and even be a little more sturdy?
@irockyosox1234 you have to place the petles lower when applying them. My roses always did that too. Do, try to place the petles lower and watch how other people make theirs.

@airsoftfreack231 I also made it out of a bamboo skewers. That can help stick them to the ground. I didn't stick them to the ground. I just stick them in together with the silk flowers I had for her. I was thinking of making a whole bunches of them for her graves. It will be nothing but all different colors duct tapes roses. You can't really stick them very well with chopstick. Try it with bamboo skewers. Hope that help. = )

to make the flower more sturdy and if you wanted to put alot in a vase, you use a straw instead of pipecleaners.

8 average sized flowers makes a descent bouquet but it really depends on how big the flowers are.
it depends on where you but it from. some colors can cost from about $2.50-$3.00. your best bet is to keep your eye out when its on sale

Sometimes I use green, but if I'm going to cover it up with tape then I guess it really doesn't matter.

what do you use to cut duct tape cause i use scissors and well it doesnt work very well
@Mslili657 yeah, but just don't cover the pencil because u do have to be able to sharpen it, do you'll just have a flower where the eraser was.
@randomthings16 It looks better with the tape because he adds the little triangles up when the flower blooms. Goes together better.
