Crazy how Chinatown Wars failed so much. I really enjoyed it. Had some sick features aswell, especially if you were playing on the Nintendo DS. Stealing cars, looking in dumpsters and finding weapons or drugs to sell and more all while using the stylus on the bottom screen. Memories 🔥
People don’t like top down games as much as the 3d ones, especially on stupid handhelds, those were cool when you were 10 now you look like the physical embodiment of autism playing a 3ds as an adult
I thing the best story for the cancelled game would have been where we play as Sweet Johnson after CJ left and find out what caused their brother to die in the story and when CJ left we could have seen how the Grove Street gang collapsed and how sweet managed to handle the situation and we could have also probably seen their mothers death in the story which caused CJ to return

I’m really glad we never got an official game that told the backstory of GTA SA. The mystery behind the untold stories keeps fans talking and helps the community grow. However, I wish they had included LS gangs but from different states, like a Balla set from Liberty City, to make it feel more realistic. I do love the unique gangs they created for each city, but a more authentic gang expansion would have been interesting. If they had made a GTA: San Andreas Stories, I would have enjoyed following the Triads as they fell and then regained their power with CJ's help. There’s a lot we didn’t get to see, like their fights with the Da Nang Boys, Woozie Mu getting his ''Gift'' and other gangs they could have met in different states or cities within San Andreas.

There was supposed to be a part 2 & 3, but those have yet to be developed. Either way, I'll totally check out this one.
Big Bear would had been the MOST interesting character to explore as a prequel. And we can still get the moment Lil Brian died, and how sweet begin to crumble the Grove Street empire. I would had love something like that, the way he told CJ about how he got to where he was were the most intriguing part for me. But I am wondering how Caesar found love w/ Kendl like where she meet him at lol...I know she was rebellious but still...I want to know what he thought dating a sister of a rival gang.
Honestly, whatever the story might have been, we can all agree that another game set in the state of San Andreas would have been AMAZING. I still remember the days of people speculating that we are getting the San Andreas map in HD for GTA V, so I think that tells you how much another piece of art set in the fictional state of San Andreas was sought after. But, hey, It is what it is, modders in the end will make the community whole.
Personally think SAS should take place in the 70s. Make the protagonist the equivalent of an ex black panther party member and through that youd have las venturas and san fierro bases. Have that org transition into grove street fams.

Vice city stories was the 1st gta I ever played when I was a kid and I’ve been trying to figure out which one it was for the longest I couldn’t remember you just helped me out thank you😭😂
It was honestly all about the timing. The Xbox 360 and PS3 had come out and they only had a short time with the devkits to release GTA IV, plus they had a whole new physics engine and architecture to work with. Their team was only so big and even GTA IV ended up with multiple delays because of the problems they ran in to, and it was important to get a release while the PS3 was still somewhat fresh. After that they went straight to RDR, and encountered even more problems, and by then the PSP was pretty obsolete so there was no point developing San Andreas Stories. Near the end of RDR, it had been so long of a timeframe since another GTA, they had to start developing V, and the rest is history.
The story should have been where the ly explore the rise of the best character...Zero. The rivalry between him and his arch nemesis Berkley was never explained. You could have just had RC fights and do missions with his technology
it would not have been great just take batman arkham knight as an example where they put most of the fights with tanks sure, its a different franchise but the whole rc thing wouldn't have been well accepted
I really love this SAS mod bruh, it definitely would've been very interesting to see what rockstar intended SAS story to be like which possibly would've been released in '07 or '08 if the limitations weren't there but this is an amazing concept seeing cesar side of the coin going from los santos to angel pine to san fierro etc. He definitely was an interesting character.

I always thought it would be fun to have a San Andreas stories game based on the guy in one of the earlier missions that says “Tenpenny set me up”. If I remember rightly, you don’t learn anything about that character. You could see his rise, and give him a great backstory, then explain how he got betrayed by Tenpenny. This is a character we don’t know at all, so you can do anything. Maybe start it in las Venturas, but as it continues he is forced to leave, then gets involved with the Ballas - but also meets Tenpenny along the way. Kind of a reverse of San Andreas where we start at Los Santos and end up in Las Venturas. Here, you could start in Las Venturas, then end up in Los Santos. Maybe meeting characters like Zero, The Truth and Mad Dogg along the way.
They could had two discs that's why I think that's not the reason the real reason I think is gta sa doesn't keep me curious maybe that's the reason I never thought of what was the backstory of gta sa but i definitely thought about gta 3 gta sa doesn't keeps mysteries cjs mother died by ballas and that's it we take revenge and we know big smoke betrays us and we kill him vagos where not a big part of the story except cesar so doesn't makes sense for rockstar to make a gta sa stories
I think we would have 3 protagonists, Brian, Ceasar, and Sweet. For Brian, we will start with him first and play how his death was organized considering that we havent seen him at all, next or during brians story we will play as ceasar and find out how we was with the aztecas in the first place and how he met kendl. Finally, after brian dies and the story will be heavily focused on sweet and shows hows he manages grove street and the real killers of CJ's mom.
San Andreas stories mod, should focus on Ceasar and the Latino gangs. While they existed in the game. They are underrepresented. Seeing how big of a part the Latino community is in Los Santos and in LA in real life
My take on it is we should play as Wu Zi before he was blinded and the events that lead up to it. A story about a young Wu Zi's rise to power, the struggles he had, and what ultimately made him blind would be more interesting plus the wider scope of his character arc would make better use of the map over someone like Sweet/Cesar who doesnt see beyond their hoods unlike Wu Zi who has grander goals. This way the story would have more focus on San Andreas as a whole not just Los Santos, we get to see a character before he is handicapped, we get more insights on how he accumulated his wealth to own a casino, and it would just be weird to play as Cesar/Sweet get rich asf in story then suddenly they're broke again by the time GTA San Andreas took place.
What im really hoping for if rockstar even cares. If de turns out well and improve everything from models to missing features to even adding new features or making the game just more accessible. Heck even if they can make it more like the hd games with ragdoll physics and stuff then de would do pretty good for its sales and shows that the new team are capable of hopefully making things for the older titles while rockstar focuses on new titles For example the new de team can make a gta 4 remake and gta san andreas stories for the nintendo switch
The most logical thing would be to focus on Grove Street and the life+times of Brian. Whether he’d be the protagonist or a more realized deuteragonist.
I always wanted to play as Brian before he dies and get to see CJ (when he was a busta😂) and Sweet with how their dynamic really worked. Could've played up until Brian dies then you takeover as Sweet once CJ leaves and have maybe one or two arcs left with a handful of fun and challenging missions. Then post-game as Sweet you start to see the downfall of the Grove from the Seville Boulevard Families and Temple Drive Families leaving to the rise of crack and hard drugs while heavy hitters like B-Dup and Big Bear drop they flag and guys like Big Devil & Little Devil end up getting killed. It would do so much justice to Sweet's character when we see him in SA as CJ. Because it always irked me how petty he was towards CJ even after all CJ did. So seeing how low they fell up close ending with their mother being killed would be perfect setup for SA. I don't care about Ceasar and the Aztecas or Mike Toreno nearly as much. They're solid dudes but not worth a whole game. Maybe Big Smoke or Tenpenny but nothing would beat Brian to Sweet imo.
I still play my PSP. recently bought one and started building my game collection from years ago. it’s a great console. some great games. lots and lots of pretty crap low effort releases however. I believe so much more could’ve been done with it it’s a shame that it only had a brief time in the spotlight. To see how full length GTA games were released on this handheld demonstrated just what could be achieved should developers have really applied themselves.
I would still play a San Andreas Stories, TO THIS DAY. SA is still arguably the greatest game in the series, and there's so much tantalizing unexplored background lore. (Although, perhaps not knowing is part of the charm here)
It would have been exorbitantly expensive to produce San Andreas Stories, especially if they wanted to keep all of the original map. We are talking voice acting, music, and an immense amount of map detail. That by itself would have presented potentially impossible challenges, but we are forgetting the elephant in the room here: Sales. You say a few times in the video that both the stories games were successful, and while you are correct, the amount of success is another story. Lcs was the best selling game on the PSP, shipping about 8 million copies. Vcs sold only just over half, at about 4.5 million. While they technically were full returns on investment, that indicated a downward trend. So not only would San Andreas be really expensive to make a stories game for, it was incredibly financially infeasible. Not to mention that GTA IV was already well under development by 2006 (Stories games were developed by Rockstar Leeds and North), and with only 2 years between VCS and the release of their most anticipated game of all time, a 1-year turnaround for 2007 to make sure it did not compete with their big title would have been insanely unrealistic and even more expensive. Now, I do genuinely think that if Vice City Stories had been more successful, If it had been able to sell more units than even Liberty City Stories, I do genuinely think that it would have made sense to actually produce San Andreas stories for the PS Vita, despite the new era of HD GTA games. The Vita would have been a lot more capable of a platform to handle San Andreas' map. I do not believe Chinatown Wars was harmful to any of those prospects because it was very obviously a gamble to produce an m-rated game on a platform known to primarily be played by kids (it's the same reason that GTA on GBA failed, it was a platform largely aimed at kids). It was really just too expensive and it just would not have looked like it would be a large enough success. Now one really has to wonder, since LCS was the highest selling PSP game of all time, could San Andreas stories have saved the Vita? It's an interesting thought. And you are completely off base saying that San Andreas Stories on PS Vita would have been too different from GTA IV because it would have been primarily released for a mobile platform which has its own audience. After Vice City Stories underperformed, I do not believe for a second that they had any follow-up plans for San Andreas Stories.
The mod sounds really cool! but Idk about the MC choice, I always imagined that GTA SA Stories would probably be about a young Sweet, and his dead friends 'Big Devil, Little Devil and Tony' with Big Bear as the MC and the story would've focused on how big Groove street families was (before they've splitted with the Temple Drive Families and the Seville boulevard families) and the downfall of the Gang (Why Big Bear resorted to drugs, why Sweet got so laid back as the leader and how the others mentioned died and the cherry on top, how Brian REALLY died...)
I would've personally loved SA stories to shine light on the Green Sabre incident, and how it all played out. They could've just made it LS, without the other cities.
But the Sabre incident was seen in the Introduction movie and it takes place a couple days before the start of the game. Making a game based on it would be pointless bc we got the answers
Well for San Andreas Stroies i hope for an aggressive protagonist that would experience the initial chaos of San Andreas such as facing gangsters and Tenpenny's corrupt police units in Los Santos, dealing with T-Bone Mendez and newly formed Loco Syndicate in San Fierro, working temporarily for the Mafia(Leone or Sindacco) in Las Venturas and have a good ending or staying low in Countryside after Final Mission
las venturas, hands down. 80% of my playtime in san andreas was las venturas and desert area. I really couldve done without san fierro. god how i hoped for this game to come out back in the day
The could've made 3 San Andreas Stories each centering on an island with a specific character. That way we can explore more characters other than Ceaser with tight stories and we can spend more time in Las Venturas because I always thought that was the least interesting city of the 3

San Andreas stories would probably not necessarily focus mainly on the GSF or any street gang It could have at least focused on someone else like perhaps a member of the Sindacco Family whose backstory is a bit similar to that of Tommy Vercetti, ie he got betrayed by his friend who is a brother of Paulie Sindacco. He could have at least defected from the Sindaccos and attempted to start a new life in los santos
this is the best time to release LCS and VCS remasters to the pc, those games are notorious for their bad controls, mouse aiming will fix it, just give it to rockstar to deal with, i doubt sa stories will ever be made but they can add chinatown wars to the collection
Vice city was meant as a dlc to GTA III so it was quite short. Which is why they made VCStories so the game feels more whole and connected to OG vice city. Liberty City Stories is similar with giving more context to the GTA III characters like Tony Cipriani and also adding more clothes, cars, safe houses with interiors, which GTA iii was missing. San Andreas was quite a long game and the characters were more fleshed out already in San Andreas so adding more to the game seemed pointless if they did SA Stories. Everything in San Andreas was already explained so not much to build on overall.
I think San Andreas Stories would've easily dominated the market ESPECIALLY right after releasing IV, because all IV did for a lot of people at the time was make them nostalgic for III, Vice City, and San Andreas. The second I beat IV I traded it back to Gamestop and never thought about it again. I could never do that to San Andreas. Most of my friends felt the same way. I still come back to San Andreas every few years to this day. San Andreas: 9.5/10 IV: 6/10 San Andreas Stories: Would've been/this world

San Andreas stories mod, should focus on Ceasar and the Latino gangs.
While they existed in the game. They are underrepresented. Seeing how big of a part the Latino community is in Los Santos and in LA in real life
Chinatown Wars is criminally underrated
My take on it is we should play as Wu Zi before he was blinded and the events that lead up to it. A story about a young Wu Zi's rise to power, the struggles he had, and what ultimately made him blind would be more interesting plus the wider scope of his character arc would make better use of the map over someone like Sweet/Cesar who doesnt see beyond their hoods unlike Wu Zi who has grander goals. This way the story would have more focus on San Andreas as a whole not just Los Santos, we get to see a character before he is handicapped, we get more insights on how he accumulated his wealth to own a casino, and it would just be weird to play as Cesar/Sweet get rich asf in story then suddenly they're broke again by the time GTA San Andreas took place.
What im really hoping for if rockstar even cares. If de turns out well and improve everything from models to missing features to even adding new features or making the game just more accessible. Heck even if they can make it more like the hd games with ragdoll physics and stuff then de would do pretty good for its sales and shows that the new team are capable of hopefully making things for the older titles while rockstar focuses on new titles
For example the new de team can make a gta 4 remake and gta san andreas stories for the nintendo switch

The most logical thing would be to focus on Grove Street and the life+times of Brian. Whether he’d be the protagonist or a more realized deuteragonist.
I always wanted to play as Brian before he dies and get to see CJ (when he was a busta😂) and Sweet with how their dynamic really worked. Could've played up until Brian dies then you takeover as Sweet once CJ leaves and have maybe one or two arcs left with a handful of fun and challenging missions. Then post-game as Sweet you start to see the downfall of the Grove from the Seville Boulevard Families and Temple Drive Families leaving to the rise of crack and hard drugs while heavy hitters like B-Dup and Big Bear drop they flag and guys like Big Devil & Little Devil end up getting killed. It would do so much justice to Sweet's character when we see him in SA as CJ. Because it always irked me how petty he was towards CJ even after all CJ did. So seeing how low they fell up close ending with their mother being killed would be perfect setup for SA. I don't care about Ceasar and the Aztecas or Mike Toreno nearly as much. They're solid dudes but not worth a whole game. Maybe Big Smoke or Tenpenny but nothing would beat Brian to Sweet imo.

I still play my PSP. recently bought one and started building my game collection from years ago. it’s a great console. some great games. lots and lots of pretty crap low effort releases however. I believe so much more could’ve been done with it it’s a shame that it only had a brief time in the spotlight. To see how full length GTA games were released on this handheld demonstrated just what could be achieved should developers have really applied themselves.

I would still play a San Andreas Stories, TO THIS DAY. SA is still arguably the greatest game in the series, and there's so much tantalizing unexplored background lore. (Although, perhaps not knowing is part of the charm here)
It would have been exorbitantly expensive to produce San Andreas Stories, especially if they wanted to keep all of the original map. We are talking voice acting, music, and an immense amount of map detail. That by itself would have presented potentially impossible challenges, but we are forgetting the elephant in the room here: Sales.
You say a few times in the video that both the stories games were successful, and while you are correct, the amount of success is another story. Lcs was the best selling game on the PSP, shipping about 8 million copies. Vcs sold only just over half, at about 4.5 million. While they technically were full returns on investment, that indicated a downward trend. So not only would San Andreas be really expensive to make a stories game for, it was incredibly financially infeasible. Not to mention that GTA IV was already well under development by 2006 (Stories games were developed by Rockstar Leeds and North), and with only 2 years between VCS and the release of their most anticipated game of all time, a 1-year turnaround for 2007 to make sure it did not compete with their big title would have been insanely unrealistic and even more expensive.
Now, I do genuinely think that if Vice City Stories had been more successful, If it had been able to sell more units than even Liberty City Stories, I do genuinely think that it would have made sense to actually produce San Andreas stories for the PS Vita, despite the new era of HD GTA games. The Vita would have been a lot more capable of a platform to handle San Andreas' map. I do not believe Chinatown Wars was harmful to any of those prospects because it was very obviously a gamble to produce an m-rated game on a platform known to primarily be played by kids (it's the same reason that GTA on GBA failed, it was a platform largely aimed at kids). It was really just too expensive and it just would not have looked like it would be a large enough success. Now one really has to wonder, since LCS was the highest selling PSP game of all time, could San Andreas stories have saved the Vita? It's an interesting thought.
And you are completely off base saying that San Andreas Stories on PS Vita would have been too different from GTA IV because it would have been primarily released for a mobile platform which has its own audience. After Vice City Stories underperformed, I do not believe for a second that they had any follow-up plans for San Andreas Stories.
The mod sounds really cool! but Idk about the MC choice, I always imagined that GTA SA Stories would probably be about a young Sweet, and his dead friends 'Big Devil, Little Devil and Tony' with Big Bear as the MC and the story would've focused on how big Groove street families was (before they've splitted with the Temple Drive Families and the Seville boulevard families) and the downfall of the Gang (Why Big Bear resorted to drugs, why Sweet got so laid back as the leader and how the others mentioned died and the cherry on top, how Brian REALLY died...)

If GTA SAS was about Sweets or Caesar it would make sense that it would only be set in Los Santos.
I would've personally loved SA stories to shine light on the Green Sabre incident, and how it all played out. They could've just made it LS, without the other cities.
But the Sabre incident was seen in the Introduction movie and it takes place a couple days before the start of the game. Making a game based on it would be pointless bc we got the answers

Well for San Andreas Stroies i hope for an aggressive protagonist that would experience the initial chaos of San Andreas such as facing gangsters and Tenpenny's corrupt police units in Los Santos, dealing with T-Bone Mendez and newly formed Loco Syndicate in San Fierro, working temporarily for the Mafia(Leone or Sindacco) in Las Venturas and have a good ending or staying low in Countryside after Final Mission

The could've made 3 San Andreas Stories each centering on an island with a specific character. That way we can explore more characters other than Ceaser with tight stories and we can spend more time in Las Venturas because I always thought that was the least interesting city of the 3

In GTA San Andreas Stories, it would be brilliant if that took place in 1987 to reveal what led to Brian's death that caused CJ to leave Los Santos to go Liberty City for 5 years, and what happened with the Grove Street OGs with the likes of Big Devil, Little Devil, and Tony that led to their deaths.

What about the two mods that barcoda studia released? GTA Sindacco Chronicles (based on GTA LCS) and GTA Forelli Redemption (based on GTA III). Delightful efforts.
They could have easily gone for Los Santos stories, focusing on Carl’s brother who died or Cesar’s story. It’s all speculation. You have no proof.

Given the enormous size of San Andreas and its extensive map, it feels like it could be too much for a PSP console to manage.
I wish they would make a series Netflix esh. That way we could have live action story telling. Or even a novelization version. I would jump at the chance to buy it up. I wish Rockstar would do this.

That would've kind of sucked as he did his job of being unlikable in gta san andreas but was always theorized that tenpenny and big smoke used drugs to Hush Ryder.

San Andreas stories would probably not necessarily focus mainly on the GSF or any street gang It could have at least focused on someone else like perhaps a member of the Sindacco Family whose backstory is a bit similar to that of Tommy Vercetti, ie he got betrayed by his friend who is a brother of Paulie Sindacco. He could have at least defected from the Sindaccos and attempted to start a new life in los santos
this is the best time to release LCS and VCS remasters to the pc, those games are notorious for their bad controls, mouse aiming will fix it, just give it to rockstar to deal with, i doubt sa stories will ever be made but they can add chinatown wars to the collection

Vice city was meant as a dlc to GTA III so it was quite short. Which is why they made VCStories so the game feels more whole and connected to OG vice city. Liberty City Stories is similar with giving more context to the GTA III characters like Tony Cipriani and also adding more clothes, cars, safe houses with interiors, which GTA iii was missing. San Andreas was quite a long game and the characters were more fleshed out already in San Andreas so adding more to the game seemed pointless if they did SA Stories. Everything in San Andreas was already explained so not much to build on overall.
I think San Andreas Stories would've easily dominated the market ESPECIALLY right after releasing IV, because all IV did for a lot of people at the time was make them nostalgic for III, Vice City, and San Andreas. The second I beat IV I traded it back to Gamestop and never thought about it again. I could never do that to San Andreas. Most of my friends felt the same way. I still come back to San Andreas every few years to this day.
