Your generator reviews, which include real world testing, are top notch. Sean's humor kicks it up several notches to make it even funnier than it is informative!
I have a smaller yamaha and it has a huge flaw about it that you don't see until you fully read ALL of the manual (I tend to be very cautious re stuff like that). The flaw is you are supposed to use A DIFFERENT CARBURATOR if you run BELOW 4000 feet elevation than if you run ABOVE 4000 feet. You gonna change the carb every time you go from a lower desert into the nearby mountains and then do it again going the other way around??? Does your rig also have that requirement?
I had a Yamaha inverter generator when I was RVing full time and it was as good as they come. I put almost 2000 hours on it and it never failed. I'm shopping for another RV and will buy two of the 2200s (I'm too old to pick up a 30 amp generator lol.
Nice video! We travel with a Honda 2200 - just one for our 5th wheel powers 1 AC fine (with micro-air easy start). We also have an inverter w/lithium batteries and solar (I installed these) so we can pretty much camp wherever without worrying about electric power. The lighter weight of the 2200 watt generators is definitely a plus. The Honda we have is very quiet - prior I owned 2 Yamaha 2000 watt generators (both had carb problems later on - replaced carbs on both and they were fine ...) With respect to running a generator in the bed of a truck, we were camping in Assateague State Park last October and witnessed a truck and trail catch fire due to the generator (running on propane in the bed of the truck with the top of a tonneau cover over it) - tailgate was down. It disintegrated the late model Super Duty (aluminum was gone, left the frame end engine block) and the camper was a total loss also (completely burned up). After that I am very cautious of the heat a small generator can put out. (Owners lost their cat unfortunately in the fire.) My general opinion is that the Honda carbs seem to be more robust when it comes to operating after being stored for a while (compared to my old Yamahas). The new one you demonstrated had a nice easy way to drain the carb - I always shut the fuel supply and let it run dry - still leaves some fuel in bowl.
After watching this video, if I ever go to California, I will not be bringing my generator...there must have been 10 separate California warnings identified for generators in this video!!! I have a Yamaha 4500 watt inverter generator just for home power backup, but I used to have a 2000 watt Honda inverter generator for camping, these are/were very reliable solid generators.
Honestly I think the sale of generators have been banned in California (as of 2028). I'm sure fentanyl will remain widely available but thank goodness they are cracking down on small engines!
@@LongLongHoneymoon Unfortunately, I am sure you are right about that. I don't think the average person in said area realizes this, but while they are banning small engines and demanding that all coal power plants be shut down across the country, a certain country in the eastern hemisphere that already burns way more coal than we do, has more coal plants on the books to be built between now and 2030 than the US has currently operating...oh well, at least they can 'feel' good about their emission reductions in CA.
We still have our 3100W unit and love it. We had a problem last year with it, but got it sorted and it ran great. I installed a new battery in it today.
I need a “do not set yourself on fire” decal 😂 Thanks for showcasing another generator option. I love my little Champion Dual Fuel, but sometimes the plethora of other features offered on various brands are pretty tempting. Champion needs to make a smallish dual fuel with remote start and a 30 amp outlet.
I love your idea of a smallish dual fuel with remote start. I can't figure out why they do not make a remote start propane unit. Thanks as always Steph for your kind and good-humored comments! I will see about getting you one of those decals... 😄
These generators don’t have warning stickers. How can you be sure that you are operating them safely? I miss those. Especially the special stickers for California.
I HAVE 2 OF THESE SAME GENNIES. 2020 MODEL. MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN FULLTIMING SINCE JUNE 2022. DISCOVERED 2 THINGS ABOUT THIS MACHINE THAT I NEVER EXPECTED; 1-IN EXTREMELY HOT WEATHER THE GENERATOR WON'T RUN. BACK STORY; LAST SUMMER WE WERE IN THE THE SALMON RIVER CANYON AT A PLACE CALLED SLATE CREEK RECREATION SITE NEAR WHITEBIRD IDAHO. GOT SET UP ABOUT 3PM. GOT BOTH GENERATORS GOING TO RUN THE AC (IT WAS 105*). WENT DOWN TO THE RIVER FOR AN HOUR OR SO TO COOL OFF AND RETURNED TO NO GENERATORS MAKING ELECTRICITY. AFTER A GOOD HOUR OR SO OF RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THE UNIT WILL NOT RUN WHEN THE MACHINE TEMP INSIDE THE PANELS EXCEED 120*. WE SUFFERED FOR THE NIGHT. 2- I CAN EASILY HANDLE 55LBS OF MACHINE WHEN I LOAD THEM INTO THE STORAGE COMPARTMENT OF MY 5TH WHEEL. DISCOVERED ITS NOT A GOOD THING TO TILT THE MACHINE OVER FORE TO AFT WHEN LOADING AND UNLOADING. SOMEHOW ENGINE OIL GETS INTO THE AIR CLEANER BOX AND THE ENGINE RUNS TOO RICH AND STALLS, ALOT.. CLEANED THE AIR FILTERS AND VOILA NO MORE STALLING.
LMAO The funniest video yet...Sean's innuendo's crack me up😂...I can see Kristy squirming behind the camera every time he says his knob or his cock....all in good fun...super hilarious. I love watching Kristy's facial expressions when Sean says something that's not PC too.....🤣
Interesting video, i'm curious why you didn't go with the Honda 2200I's and parallel them, the engine is larger and thus noise would be less and they will handle load a bit better and lower rpm compared to the smaller engine that needs to work harder at equal loads??? The Honda's are lighter and fuel savings wouldn't be a consideration as although the Honda's aren't rated as well, they wouldn't need to work as hard as the Yamaha's and therefore fuel usage should be aprox equal. The Paralleled Honda's would also carry larger load much better due to the larger engines JMO.
I just bought a Nearly brand new unit off of FB. The people bought it for an RV and then never used is aside from starting it up and running it a few times occasionally with no load. I get it home and can't for the life of me can't get it to stay running without the choke being out. As soon as I push the choke in it kills the engine.
Sean, Great video. So I love the 30amp plug to use with my 23' 2019 Airstream. But can I just use ONE unit, knowing I cannot run the A/C? And will ONE run the minor items like lights, and charge AGM batteries a bit? Or do I have to purchase two generators? Note: I currently have the Westinghouse 3700. It's been horrible with starting issues, carburetion problems, and terrible customer service. Leaving for a dry camping trip and need a new Genny.
Sean, We are considering changing from a Grech Strada Ion Van to a Airstream Trailer. We live in Central Florida and camp some here in the state as well as around the US. We are looking at the 2024 Trade Wind or a 27’ Globetrotter. Will one A/C unit cool the Trade Wind in Florida? Is two ac units a must? Is the Two A/C a better option on the Globetrotter 27’? If we boondock with the Globetrotter is a generator ok or upgrade the Battery’s and inverter? Thanks John Cassady
Sean, would love it if you can check out the Westinghouse igen 4500DF some time. It's dual fuel, will run a full 30A trailer continuously (3700W gas/3330W propano, close enough). But perhaps most importantly it includes remote start, something Champion seems incapable of adding to a dual fuel unit.
Our Honda 2200I has a few less features but I swear they came off the same China assembly line. We had 2 units it was very noisy with both and a pain to run both, Then we had Ronnie Dennis upgrade our Airstream and now only one little 2200 is needed to help us out in heavy use applications. The other twin sit's home lonesome. Thanks for the review-
The AC soft start is a very nice upgrade. Yes, I am a little surprised these are not more quiet. The 3000W Yamaha unit is extremely quiet (but it weighs 150 pounds!).
I know the Honda has a one piece cylinder, therefore if you need to lap a valve or the like, you have to take it apart from the bottom instead of removing the head. Does the Yamaha have the same problem? This would convince me to buy the Yamaha instead of the Honda. Also, does this have a propane adapter so I don't have to worry about spilled gasoline and a fire?
Just a quick thought, why would the manufacture include a carbon monoxide sensor that uses a battery in a system that is designed to produce power and can only produce carbon monoxide if said unit is running? Planned obsolescence ?
When changing elevations from desert to mountains (6500' elev) how involved is it to change the carburetor kit? Whats the cost of that kit? I'm assuming the generator comes set for low elevation.?
I've been following you guys for years. First time commenting. Great video, awesome channel. I have a Honda EU3000is and looking to get the smaller Honda as well (I have soft start a/c). Here in CA I expect all the small engine repair shops to go away (reference comment thread below with Mikenb11). I'm probably sticking around (salt of the earth an all). So I've trained myself to do 90% of the maintenance on Hondas myself. They are fairly simple to work on. I'm not a motorhead so I don't want to complicate my life too much with having to maintain different brands. So, are you planning a meetup sometime at the Mexican Hat Boat ramp?? Gololoho!
g\Good video, but you mentioned that having 2 generators make it " twice the noise output, I beleive this is an inacurate stament. Have you tested the sound level with two running on parallel, I see you did it for just one.
So I own a diesel truck, and live full time in, our RV. So a propane generator would be more effective. I don’t like carrying gas. I would rather travel with propane.
Yes, I understand. In the past there have been modification kits that would allow Yamaha generators to run using propane, but these days there are so many dual fuel options that are propane ready, straight from the factory, it makes sense to go that route.
Have you tried this generator with your air conditioner(13.5K I assume) at higher altitudes, I know you like Jackson Hole and surrounding area does it work there? We live and camp in Colorado and our typical campgrounds are 7 to 9K - will this geny run the 13.5K air?
Did you ever mention that the economy mode revs back up (with corresponding increase in noise level) if a heavy load is attached? I may have missed it.
Yes, it adjusts the speed and output according to the demand. I don’t see any downside to using economy mode as a default. Technically, it is advised that you start the generator with economy mode off. But once started, you might as well turn it on.
We still have our champion 4500. As we explained in the video, we have trouble getting it to fit beneath our truck Tonnele cover. So we have traveled with different generators until we get this issue sorted. But I still like the unit.
For years we used the Yamaha EF3000iSEB... then we switched to a Champion 3000W unit. I'm not sure what we will bring this year. I like the EF2200 just fine and would appreciate the extra space in our pickup bed, so it may end up going with us this year... but I do prefer an electric start (remote electric start is even better).
Anything with a carb is not going to run perfect from sea level to 10k ft. It should still run though. This is where the fuel injected Honda eu3200 will shine.
Ok looking at loving my champion... Which doesnt need to be paired and is much quieter and has 30 amp rv etc The Yamaha, although good quality, just seems to fall into a wimpy loud niche Id rather carry one generator that can do it all My Champion 2700 fits in my truck and can handle anything my 27' AS throws at it So my take on this unit is one is almost enough and two is overkill
Nice review.. as usual. I'm a little disappointed to hear about having to somehow replace the whole CO detector when their battery dies! Hopefully there will be some kind of generic replacement or there will be a whole lot of obsolete generators in 5 or 6 years! I'd be interested to see your opinion of what may almost be the holy grail of RV generators - It's 3500 watts, dual fuel, remote start, and only around 60 pounds! (only thing it doesn't have is the RV plug)... The Genmax GM3500 iAED..
Thanks, I will definitely check out that generator. You mention, as that does sound like the holy Grail!!! as for the CO detector, I completely agree, and did a double take when I read that detail in the manual. Frankly, I am not certain if the generator will operate if the CO detector fails. The product manual is not clear on that point. This could be another example of a well-intentioned regulation sending a lot of equipment to, the landfills at an early age. I hope not, but adding this complexity to these units will probably be problematic over the long term. Thanks for your comment!
Haha I went back and found the first Yamaha vid we made... 15 years ago! Thanks for sticking with us! We look forward to meeting you someday. ua-cam.com/video/hQx0nCJiYqM/v-deo.html
Great review! I really like the idea of draining the carb for storage with the drain cock. It has been evident for a long time that you know your way around a cock! My question/concern is-is Kristy currently as cock knowledgeable as you, and if not, is she being taught the ins/out of dealing with the cock??
You can get two WEN 2000 Watt generators that will do the same thing and run for over 7 hours on a tank. The price is half of what you'll pay for Honda or Yamaha.
One can never be too rich, too beautiful, or have too much electricity. (Well, unless one is struck by lightning - that would be too much.) I like having multiple options. Last year we had a major problem with our solar inverter and I was thankful to have backup.
Sean, what is the tool that you used to pry off the side panel to the generator? I saw your bone tool on your Amazon page but it looks different. Thank you
Hi Steve, you are very observant. This tool is very similar to the bone tool, but honestly, I think the bone tool is currently residing inside our trailer. So I grabbed this anonymous tool, and to be quite honest. I have no idea exactly where I got it, but I have two of them! they must’ve come with some sort of product we probably purchased in recent years. The bone tool is probably better, but these do nicely in a pinch. If I recall correctly, the cover of the Yamaha took a bit of pressure to pry off the first time. It is held into place by several plastic tabs.
You know, I think that tool came with a car stereo that we purchased. It is a useful tool, and it is made to pry car interior bits safely when removing and installing a new stereo.
Lmbo!!!! So many things I want to say but better judgment has won out so I will just commend Christy for not being drawn into your circus of word play and dropping the camera from laughing so hard!!( I on the other hand would have dropped it!!) Lmbo!! Great video!!👍
I am confused thinking wanted larger unit more than 2000 for Rv Ac now looking LP but now thinking still have tank, line. Am I being greedy just save money get gas 3600
It would appear that Kristy needs to do a better job of editing the X rated comments out 😁 That, and she better be close at hand should you need remove the fuel cap 😃
Get your mind out of the gutter! There are no X-Rated comments in this video, only industry standard terminology -- as printed on the generator itself! You are correct about that fuel cap, I don't know what happened there... 🙈
Good review. It is a little disappointing to see that even the respected and quality Yamaha brand has resorted to making their products in China. *Come on Yamaha... you're better than that!!* 😆
Why doesn’t Honda and Yamaha make the 3500 to 4500 watt inverter generators rather then the smaller 2200 watt units? Who wants to lug around and maintain two separate units. Seems ridiculous.
I have more than 10 currently but I have given several away over the years. Photography channels have it easy... cameras and lenses don't need oil changes or ethanol... 😂
@@LongLongHoneymoon I’m an amateur with only 3… Water cooled Honda 6500 wired to the house, a Honda 2000 Companion and a Harbor Freight 3500 Predator. You’ll have to review a Predator sometime. Very affordable and mine at least, quiet and very reliable. The Predator is my “go-to” when traveling with my 2017 International Serenity 25 FBQ.
Not another gasoline generator! Every unit that you are given is your new favorite. This one is no great improvement over my 10 year old Yamaha 2400, which I happily now leave in my garage now that I have a sufficient power station plus solar.
Great video as always. That cock is crap. They should have just installed a fuel shutoff and just run the carb dry. My two Firman gens have fuel shut off so I can run the carb dry and simple two wire parallel kit. Work great.
That's an interesting perspective. I own some other units with a fuel shutoff. I agree that you can accomplish the same goal with that method, but I kind of like having the drain cock option.
Fuel shutoff doesn't usually run the float bowl dry. That's often where your problems occur because degredation in the gasoline there clogs the jets. So it's important to run the float bowl dry.
At 18:25 I was relieved to hear Kristy chuckle. I was missing her usual pained reaction shots after the sophomoric drain cock jokes, and I thought she wasn't going to be in this one. Almost, but not quite. 🙂 Where are you headed next, LoLoHo?
Things change and they're just providing options. This option would be useful for people who wouldn't be able to lug the champion out of your truck to use it with a short cord to keep from losing voltage with a long cord to reach your truck if you can't unload the generator solo. If you're happy with your champion, this video shouldn't make you feel differently.
I wish my Honda 2200 EU had some of these features, but the bigger Honda engine does have its advantages of being quieter and stronger at maximum load.
Yep. I guess I was somewhat rude. After 5 years full time coast to coast to coast i hope to see new places to visit not more stuff to buy. Sorry. Travel safe. Robert Woods.
Garbage, I bought 2 same bad quality. Getting rust very fast inside and outside, overloaded easy in eco mode using brandnew 5000 btu, my 16 years old honda 2000 can handle easily. Very disappointed with yamaha.
Thanks for sharing. I am also surprised at these units because overall, I found them to be a disappointment. Usually Yamaha have a very high-quality construction and low noise output. That does not seem to be the case here.
The video only contains the exact industry terminology that is printed on the side of the unit. Nevertheless, the writer responsible for this episode has been sacked.
This Yamaha! amzn.to/3Lu4nl3
Your generator reviews, which include real world testing, are top notch. Sean's humor kicks it up several notches to make it even funnier than it is informative!
Waking up in the morning and hitting the remote start on my Champion just can not be riveled.
Feel the same way about my Westinghouse. So glad to have it. 😉
Just bought the 4650 remote start..sold my predator 3500. Great unit but walking out to push a button was so 2017.
I paused the video and read your California warnings - loved it!
Micro air easy start for the roof top a/c works great
Yes it's a great upgrade. We need to do a video about it.
i like the way you say "China!"
Was this video Kristy approved? 😂.
We bought a champion based on your recommendation and are happy with it! Guess we need a Yamaha now! 😂😂

Nice generator, but will it help my banana slicer slice better?!?!
Lots of nice features but I guess I missed that remote start demonstration.
How do you feel about the RV 30 AMP ready outlet in the unit 🤔
If I was a single man, I would marry it.
Engage Boost mode and go to Plaid.

Thanks. You are Good Company.
@@LongLongHoneymoon Это только потому, что ты меня не знаешь, друг мой
I’m really considering a duel fuel so I could run on propane. Does Yamaha have duel fuel units?
Please review a propane only generator (no gasoline)
What happen to your Champion 4500 ? We bought one after watching your video on it do you still have it and did you have any problems with it ?
We still have our champion 4500. As we explained in the video, we have trouble getting it to fit beneath our truck Tonnele cover. So we have traveled with different generators until we get this issue sorted. But I still like the unit.
You have to be tripping over these by now. Which one do you travel with?
For years we used the Yamaha EF3000iSEB... then we switched to a Champion 3000W unit. I'm not sure what we will bring this year. I like the EF2200 just fine and would appreciate the extra space in our pickup bed, so it may end up going with us this year... but I do prefer an electric start (remote electric start is even better).
We just got our first inverter generator and then learned at 5,000 feet it needed a mod to run properly. Grrr. Are they all this way?
Anything with a carb is not going to run perfect from sea level to 10k ft. It should still run though. This is where the fuel injected Honda eu3200 will shine.
Ok looking at loving my champion... Which doesnt need to be paired and is much quieter and has 30 amp rv etc
The Yamaha, although good quality, just seems to fall into a wimpy loud niche
Id rather carry one generator that can do it all My Champion 2700 fits in my truck and can handle anything my 27' AS throws at it
So my take on this unit is one is almost enough and two is overkill
I remember ole blue
Haha I went back and found the first Yamaha vid we made... 15 years ago! Thanks for sticking with us! We look forward to meeting you someday. ua-cam.com/video/hQx0nCJiYqM/v-deo.html
@@LongLongHoneymoon wow time has absolutely flown! We will positively meet drinks on me
Great review!
What about your rooftop solar system? What about your Ecoflow Delta Pro system? How many does a guy need?
Does the WEN 2000 also have 30amp outlet?
If I can figure out where I got this tool, I will let you know 😂 sometimes these useful items seem to magically appear in our kitchen drawers
Thanks so much
@@LongLongHoneymoon
I appreciate your feedback@@LongLongHoneymoon
You know, I think that tool came with a car stereo that we purchased. It is a useful tool, and it is made to pry car interior bits safely when removing and installing a new stereo.
So @LongLongHoneymoon are you using these two Yamahas when traveling this year?
For our big cross country trip, we will probably take our trusty old champion 310pW unit with the remote electric start.
@@LongLongHoneymoon thanks!
Mine has been reliable, but it’s a pain to get started right after re fueling and it’s much louder than Honda 2200
Yes, I am surprised by the noise output. Louder than expected for a Yamaha.
Lmbo!!!! So many things I want to say but better judgment has won out so I will just commend Christy for not being drawn into your circus of word play and dropping the camera from laughing so hard!!( I on the other hand would have dropped it!!) Lmbo!! Great video!!👍
Do the generators need to be alike to pair then or can you have 1 different brand etc?
They say same brand only (of course!)...
Great Video Guys!!!
Thanks, we love our Yamahas!
I am confused thinking wanted larger unit more than 2000 for Rv Ac now looking LP but now thinking still have tank, line. Am I being greedy just save money get gas 3600
👍
Innuendo a bit tiresome, but overall a good review of a quality generator. It would have been cool to see current output.
The writer responsible has been sacked.
This video had me laughing, I have a great sense of humor.
Do they even make this anymore?
How much was this generator ?
It would appear that Kristy needs to do a better job of editing the X rated comments out 😁 That, and she better be close at hand should you need remove the fuel cap 😃
Get your mind out of the gutter! There are no X-Rated comments in this video, only industry standard terminology -- as printed on the generator itself! You are correct about that fuel cap, I don't know what happened there... 🙈
Good review. It is a little disappointing to see that even the respected and quality Yamaha brand has resorted to making their products in China.
*Come on Yamaha... you're better than that!!*
😆
Surprising to me also. The 3000W unit is still made in Japan. It is built like a tank.
I just bought one of these brand new at the pawn shop for 700 bucks.
That’s definitely a very good deal
I’ve been saying this for years, but quite frankly, I Don’t Want to Survive a Nuclear War! 😮😂 It sounds very unpleasant!
Indeed. Let's hope we never find out! Really I think the more probable attack is cyber or EMP, which wouldn't exactly be a day at the beach either. 😂
Why doesn’t Honda and Yamaha make the 3500 to 4500 watt inverter generators rather then the smaller 2200 watt units? Who wants to lug around and maintain two separate units. Seems ridiculous.
I think this is the x-rated version especially when you're talkin about the carburetor drain
Get your mind out of the gutter!!!
Does anyone on the planet know the difference/s between the EF2000is and EF2000isV2 ?
Not sure but it might be a CO sensor (not a great feature anyway because eventually it will fail and require servicing).
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
And who can afford them ? 1300$ for one. 😂
better get one before comrad newsomes policies into effect here in commifornia
Okay. I have to ask…
How many generators do you own at this point?!?!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have more than 10 currently but I have given several away over the years. Photography channels have it easy... cameras and lenses don't need oil changes or ethanol... 😂
@@LongLongHoneymoon
I’m an amateur with only 3…
Water cooled Honda 6500 wired to the house, a Honda 2000 Companion and a Harbor Freight 3500 Predator.
Hmm, did I say it was my favorite??? 🤔
👍🇺🇲
I bet you do 🤣
At 18:25 I was relieved to hear Kristy chuckle. I was missing her usual pained reaction shots after the sophomoric drain cock jokes, and I thought she wasn't going to be in this one. Almost, but not quite. 🙂 Where are you headed next, LoLoHo?
Not sure yet... maybe east coast?? We may take a short run that direction while Spring weather lasts.
Perhaps we'll see you in our neck of the woods again one of these days.
😂😂
Low output, features compared to other available generators
LMOA 😂
5years ago I took your advice and bought a champion. I still have it and it runs well. Stop doing infomercials and get back to camping. Please
Videos like this allow content creators to make some money.
There is nothing wrong with that.
What if someone was looking for this unit and needed information on it? I thought Sean wore out the whole “cock” thing, but you just proved me wrong.
😂
Garbage, I bought 2 same bad quality. Getting rust very fast inside and outside, overloaded easy in eco mode using brandnew 5000 btu, my 16 years old honda 2000 can handle easily. Very disappointed with yamaha.
Thanks for sharing. I am also surprised at these units because overall, I found them to be a disappointment. Usually Yamaha have a very high-quality construction and low noise output. That does not seem to be the case here.
Feeling cocky?
Touche! 🐓
Why did this video remind me of Bill Clinton?
Disappointed with the sexual innuendos. This video is definitely below your usual standards.
The video only contains the exact industry terminology that is printed on the side of the unit. Nevertheless, the writer responsible for this episode has been sacked.
