This is one of those videos I wanted to make a few years ago, but kept putting it off. It was a great way to end 2023, to finally check it off my list as it's something some have asked for. I wanted to keep it brief, however you may also want to know how to access/extract files from within an .img backup file. That is, after making the backup image, you may want to extract specific files and/or folders from your backup. You can find full instructions on how to do that as well here: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Access_FoldersFiles_from_IMG_Backup . Thank you again for watching! Let me know in the comments below what else you'd like to see added.

Will this work for cloning a 18TB Batocera external HD to another 18TB Batocera external HD?
It will, but it will take a very long time.
What about the hidden partition for EMUNAND is that get back up to? Also, does this work original XBOX?
I don't have a device to test either, but according to this thread it appears that Yes it will work with emuNAND: gbatemp.net/threads/backup-emunand.358698/
Copying the image to an M.2 SATA SSD using RPI imager. I get verification failure message every time. Can you offer any help with what is wrong? I flashed the image to another micro SD the image verified and booted.
Is your source image larger than the SSD's capacity? If not, see if balenaEtcher works: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Write_Image_with_balenaEtcher . If it's the same there, may be a problem with the source image/download.
source image is 3Gb.
Targets: 32Gb micro SD, 512 Gb, and M.2 SSD
Flash, verified and booted with micro SD and SATA but not M.2.
balenaEtcher verification failed too.
How there can be a problem with the source image if it works on the micro SD and SATA SSD? @@WagnersTechTalk
If both are detecting a verification failure, there is likely something wrong with the source image.
Why not just use the same program to write that was used to backup?
Very good question, I did mention in the video that you can also use Win32 Disk Imager to perform the write. This normally works fine, however it's Windows-only. For writing an image (either created by yourself or downloaded from websites such as batocera, retropie, recalbox, etc.), I wanted that section to be more cross-platform. That is, Pi Imager has historically worked better than other options and works on Windows, macOS, Ubuntu x86 and the Raspberry Pi (all models). Using Pi Imager for the write/restore made sense, though you most certainly can use Win32 Disk Imager for the write if you prefer and there are instructions on the written guide to step you through it. Hope I've answered your question, thank you for watching!
Is BalenaEtcher just kind of a waste of time should I nuke it?
@@sushi_wolf Not sure I would say that, I've personally never had a problem with it. But, I have had a handful that have told me no matter what they did it wouldn't work for them and Pi Imager has always worked. Totally up to you.
@@WagnersTechTalk really my question is, I downloaded Raspery pi imager like you recommended, would you delete Balena? They’re pretty much the same tool yea? Thanks.
Really appreciate your videos, thanks for what you’re doing.
Yes, they do the same exact thing. You can remove Etcher, if you want, without issues. Thank you for watching!
