Woooooooooo bring on the BG3 builds!! I first started watching your channel, all those years ago, for the HoTs builds videos (despite them being long, boring, and drawn out) so I am HERE for these.
Pally, nice vid as usual. You can actually get Kith'rak Voss's weapon in the first act by using the Command: Drop spell on him before talking to him and the Gith at the bridge. Just have someone position at the top of the rocks past the bridge to be in range. It's a small chance but you can keep reloading to get it. It does not stop progress nor make him negative towards you. Just starts the gith fight. So you can have the best Gith 2h weapon in the game at the beginning. A late act 3 weapon at the beginning essentially.
After the Monk and Cleric build I already know this is gonna be a banger Edit: I didn’t know Deepened Pact and Extra Attack stack together for a total of 3 attacks per turn. That’s incredible!
You said you welcome counter points, so here are mine regarding this build: 1. Gyth is not the best race for this build. It is one of the best races, but in this build you already have all the proficiency's you need from paladin and the extra spells you either already have or can easily get similar effects. So the race brings nothing new to the build. Better choices for this build are Half Orc, Wood Elf, Tiefling (any subrace is good but Zariel stands out); even Halfling and Duegar are better, if you dont mind the slower speed. If you really want to build this on a companion/origin character Karlach is a much better fit. Gith specific weapons can still be used while disguised as a gith. Also, while the Silver Sword is staked, there are other weapons and item combos that are better. Off the top of my head: Bhaalist Armor + any piercing dmg weapon. 2. Paladin 5/ Warlock 5/ Fighter 2 is a bad level distribution for multi-class. I'll take a guess that you recorded this video some time ago, since atm extra attack does not stack. On one hand I think 2 levels are not worth the Action Surge compared with the benefits you get from those 2 levels in either paladin or warlock. On the other hand there are a ton of other class combos that are better: Pal7/Wa3/Fi2 ; Pal8/Wa4 ; Pal2/Wa10 ; Pal6/Wa3/So3(for quicken) ; Pal2/Wa7/Fi3 (for Champion subclass). Its like a Build'a'Bear for multiclassing. 3. The most important point i would like to make is that BG3 is very different from pen and paper D&D. You approach builds the D&D way: race+class, then find items that fit the build. However, unlike D&D, BG3 has crazy, ridiculously powerful items that you can "reliably" get. Since items are so strong, you should make builds that fit around items and item combos and pick what races and classes augment that, not the other way around. Best example of this: In D&D, Paladin, Warlock and Sorcerer make for powerful multi-class builds, some of the most powerful character builds if properly executed and played. My personal favorite is Paladin 6/ Sorcerer 14. In BG3 a paladin-sorcerer multi-class is outclassed by a Paladin2/Sword Bard10 by such a large margin that is becomes ridiculous. And that is because of a single rare item, the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel. Why mess about with sorcerer for quickened metamagic, why sacrifice spell progression to get extra attack from paladin when that rare ring enables bonus action casting for some of the most powerful control spells in the game and sword bard gets you extra attack and full spell progression up to lvl 5 spells. Another example for my point: Take a look at the Bloodthirst dagger. Add at least 3 lvl of rogue for Thief subclass and you have the starting point for a powerful dual wielding damage dealer. Your first point: Bhaalist armor is light armor and this is a Lockadin with Heavy armor proficiency. And I have that on a Gith for Warlock 12 Lifedrinker with Duelist Perogative (the strongest Rapier/piercing damage in the game) because Warlock is light armor even tho Gith has medium armor I believe (I might be wrong) Anyways, his build with GWM, Gith is like the best with Silver Sword. You wouldn’t even build the same way Pally built if you wanted to use Bhaalist armor. That’s a different class entirely. Edit (after reading the rest of your points): The best race for this build in particular is either a Half Orc or a Gith because of the Silver Sword. And I keep reading your post and you even mention how this game is different than D&D because of the items but I think you’re misunderstanding how much easier it is to just be Gith to hold the sword instead of having to disguise self. It’s stronger than Baldurans and for Paladin 2h Smites you want the highest damage roll possible. Atleast imo. Not trying to be mean or anything in my comment, I like to be proven wrong because then I’m learning lol. Can you elaborate more on your post because maybe I’m the one misunderstanding something 😅

There are dex paladin builds that are very good with medium or light armor. And I did not suggest Bhaalist armor for this specific build, but as an option for a better build setup. 3.Both Balduran Giatslayer and Shar's Spear outperform Silver Sword of Astral Plane if you use each weapon on paladin builds tailored to them. Balduran because of pure damage output and Shar's Spear because of the darkness plays you can make. 4. Balduran vs Silver Sword dmg: With +5 str modifier Balduran on basic hits does 2d6 + 3(enchant) + 10(2x str)= 20 average damage. SS is 2d6 + 3(enchant) + 5(str) + 1d6(phychic) = 18.5 average dmg. On a +7 modifier that becomes 24 vs 20.5 The special attack on both weapons add proficiency bonus damage on both weapons. Now to that add for Baldurian advantage against large and bigger enemies = higher chance to hit and crit. Baldurian gets Giant Form that is +1d6 damage and the special attack gets an extra 2d6 against large or bigger enemies. Sure, when using SS you have and advantage since psychic is rarely resisted and some nice defensive bonuses, but on pure damage output Baldurian wins by a mile.
@@alexknave4487 I was going off non situational. Those require cool downs where Silver Sword only requires race. And that average damage isn’t even that far apart considering the passive benefits from Silver Sword. I guess from a Min/Max “Which number is higher” stand point you’re right, but from watching Pally’s video and the fact it’s based around Lae’zel I think, the Silver Sword is still technically the best sword for this build. I guess that’s just my opinion and you can believe my opinion is wrong, but anything can be good if “you do xyz first”. Edit: also imo the best dex paladins are swords bards lol

@@olle12 yeah I don’t like it though because it does AOE damage when it lands and it hits my melee team usually. I rarely use it for melee since it does better throw damage with a Karlach Throwzerker
all of the specs who utilze Great weapon master and sharpshooter love bonuses to hit, so look for it in items and features. Things like oath of devotion channel div at lvl 3 or the archery fightining style goes such a long way for DPS increase, advantage is also one of the biggest bumps
For the record, if siding with the hag makes you a little ill, you can get her scalp piece while still saving Mayrina with a skill check or two. You can even see the option in this video. Pally is just heartless.
With a Cha score of 20 or more, getting Paladin to 6 to get Aura of Protection for +5 or more bonus to all saving throws for you and all nearby allies beats having extra nova damage for the Paladin alone,especially in Honour. In fact, Ancients 7/Warlock5 with Risky Ring or Gloves of the Automaton is the far better version for Honour, even without the 3rd attack, because of Warding Aura. Vengeance is better for levelling, but once you get advantage by other means against ALL enemies ALL the time, every advantage it had over Ancients is gone.
In my playthroughs I refuse to use unlimited supply of strength elixirs. It doesn't matter if it's solo or full party playthrough. Even on honour mode this game is way too easy. The only thing I would change in your setup is the starting stat spread or starting class in case of not using STR elixirs. I wouldn't start as a paladin with 8 STR and play like that till I get to the grove just dump CHA and get STR up or just start as warlock with that stat spread and then respec to start as a paladin to get paladin weapon/armor/etc. proficiencies. Oh and Mirror of Loss act 3 to get +2 to ability score.
First of all - this is build only for tactician and below. There is no reason to use it for honour mode at all. If you want to play it on honour mode with similar gameplay (completely downgraded)using paladin (vengeance)9/warlock 3 is only a way. At least you can get haste and concentrate on it. For honour mode, if you really want to smite:), better to use another build - fighter 2/paladin 2/bard(swords)8. Yes, this build is more long rest depending, but much much more powerful. You even have a 3 fighting style with it, and be a competent archer (Eldritch Blast will become useless in the late game if your build is not constructed around it, but ranged weapons can deal good damage, just use gloves of dexterity), tank (dueling style with shield), or sworddancer(two weapons fighting style). For me I think two weapons are the best - you can stack your crit chance to 20-16 with ease, and smite anything with 10d8 + flourish x2. You even get your hands on very good CC - confusion, hypnotic pattern, hold person, hideous laughter.
Absolutely not true. You WANT survivability in your main damage dealer in Honour, and a 7 Ancients / 5 Lock is the best DPS/Tank combo in the game. And by tank, I mean tank for all your nearby party members. If you only said that about the specific build in the video, I mostly agree with you. But the Lockadin is the best way to non-cheese your way through Honour even without the 3rd attack.
@@Mike-r4h having beat honor mode, I don't know why people are so bent on tanking. I played 2 pld 10 swords bard with the rest of my party being very good dps, no boss I faced passed 2 turns, most died in the first turn. Band of mystic scoundrel + acuity helm, even legendary resistance doesn't matter with a 100% hold monster or whatever I needed. Original comment is right. But if you want to "tank" and mess around with bosses, do you.
@@Dyne191For most builds I would agree that DPS is the way to go, the risk of a bad rng round messing you up is still there but not likely if most of your party members have good nova. But a Paladin/Warlock can effectively tank for your entire party, sacrificing a bit of DPS on one character for enhanced survivability of your entire party is absolutely the way to go if you're minmaxing. But hey, as you said,you don't really have to minmax in this game, so do you indeed.
@@Mike-r4h the game really underestimates alert feat, that plus good Dex on everyone, I always went first in every round, no surprise, no characters out of order. With that, I don't see the point in having tons of con (besides early game) and having a dedicated tank character when the best defensive measure I found is the enemy being dead or incapable of taking actions. I'm on PS5 and have an honor mode save a bit before last fight if you want to see it first hand
@@Dyne191 I have no doubt this is the case for you, my friend. Each has his own playstyle, and in a game like bg3 which is not exactly Souls, most good builds are perfectly viable. As for me, of my 3 honour mode completions, I found the one where I played the Pallock to be the easiest by far. No one on my party ever even fell unconscious past the Nautiloid area. Tank is an oversimplified characterization for any paladin builds. DPS is a given, I'd rather sacrifice 15 - 20 percent of my paladin's nova round output for a massive increase in every melee party members survivability. Do you need it to finish honour? No. But if you like being overpowered, being unkillable more than meets the requirements.
