Good afternoon! My grandfather (my mother's father) is a Don Cossack, was a lieutenant during the war. He has a medal, "For the Defense of Moscow". Lost a leg. Another grandfather (my dad's dad) is a descendant of Belarusian nobles, was a partisan in the war. His whole family (father, mother and nine younger brothers and sisters) were burned alive by the Germans in a wooden house. His wife (my grandmother) was a concentration camp prisoner. Until her death (1993), she screamed in her sleep. I was born on the land of the Don Cossacks in the city of Novocherkassk. Near our city, the Germans buried alive the inhabitants of a small settlement (farmstead), in which only the elderly, women and children remained, because all the men had gone to the front. They say the ground was moving for several days, people were trying to get out of the ground, so the Germans put machine gunners on top. In the USSR, every family had a war veteran. Now there are few living veterans left, but on May 9, the descendants of veterans go with portraits of their dead relatives in the "Immortal Regiment". Гитлеровский фашизм вел войну на максимальное уничтожение нашего народа любыми способами, а не просто на захват территорий. Советских военных в годы войны погибло около 11,5 миллиона, а гражданских около 13,7 миллиона. (7,4 миллиона убито, 2,1 миллиона на работах в Германии, 4,1 миллиона от голода.)

Воевали мужчины,женщины были(летчиками,зенитчиками, врачами,санитарками и даже разведчиками),пахали землю,делали снаряды и даже дети воевали.А вы ребята ничего не знаете о войне,а мы знаем все, у нас погибло 27миллионов людей на этой войне и большая часть из 27 милл. мирные люди!!!

Some thoughts. The song itself is not made for the movie Battle for Sevastopol, but for me it's a perfect score for it.
The main lead, Lyudmila Pavlichenko was a normal girl, living her life, studying History in the Universtiy, however with an unusual hobby: she was an excellent shooter, won some prices with it as well.
Then WW2, German troops invading her country, and closing month by month. Casualilty numbers sky rockets. Due to her past she gets to join the army training program for
snipers. She thought during the siege of Odessa and recorded 187 kills (!), then as the Red army retreated she went to Sevastopol, trained new snipers (who killed 100 enemy), and herself killed
257 Axis soldiers. Her total of confirmed kills during World War II was 309, including 36 Axis snipers. She was seriously injured, and got evacuated by a submarine.
Then Pavlichenko was sent to Canada and the United States for a publicity visits as part of the Soviet Union's attempts to convince the other Allies of World War II to open a second front against Nazi Germany.
She became friend with the Roosevelt family, US presdient Franklin D. and Eleanor.
From the press she got ridicilous question like why her uniform's skirt isn't shorter, did she wear makeup on the battlefield, etc. She learned to handle them, in this new front.
Her most famous speech in Chicago: ""Gentlemen," she said, "I am 25 years old and I have killed 309 fascist invaders by now. Don't you think, gentlemen, that you have been hiding behind my back for too long?"

The Germans came upon a village in the Crimea. There was a young, ten year old girl with her parents in a small home. They dragged her out and raped her repeatedly. Then they cut her up and threw the remains up against her home while her parents watched. Why did they do this? What had she done? Nothing. It was to show the villagers that resistance to the Wehrmacht was futile.
There were 90,000 civilians surrendered at the fall of Sevastopol. Ludmilla says no one knew what happened to them. She reasons that they were either shot by the Germans or carried away to be worked to death in the war factories. At any rate, it was not possible to live in the city; the Germans had leveled it.
The Germans never paid reparations for this war. Today they are fat and wealthy. Indeed it is not even possible to begin to repay the countries who experienced their depredations. Eighty million people slaughtered. The Italians and Japanese would not have gone to war with the whole world without the backing of Germany. It is all on their heads: a debt they will never repay. They can only hope that the world will forget.

However, they excel in subversive actions, snipers and similar supportive roles, but not front line personnel. They make good spies. Back in WW2 on the Eastern Front, it didn't mater, all were defending their Homeland, women combatants were severely punished and brutally executed, after getting ravaged. They were mocked even by their own, but demonstrated a level of willingness and sacrifice equal to the men, this is why Russia is actually more tolerant in terms of gender equality than any other nation on the planet.

Cuckoo means sniper. In the Winter War that Russia waged against Finland before WWII, the Finnish snipers killed so many Russians from the trees that they were nicknamed Cuckoos. The movie Sevastopol is based on the life of Lyudmila Pavlichenko, a civilian, who was trained as a sniper before WWII, and enlisted in June 1941 when the Fascists invaded Russia. As a sniper, Pavlichenko killed over 300 fascists. She fought before and during the siege of Odesa and until just before the fall of Sevastopol in July 1942. Pavlichenko was hospitalized twice during that time and was evacuated as wounded just before the fall of Sevastopol.
