  • In this one, we go to a unique exposure in Wyoming that is home to a peculiar rock, dendritic common opal filled with dendritic agate! These nodules are filled with beautiful branching dendrites and take a beautiful polish! They are very reminiscent of thundereggs...except instead of rhyolite, the agate is surrounded by beautiful white and cream toned opal. It even flouresces under a UV light! After our hunt, we head back to the shop to cut some of our finds, and select a few pieces to make some cabochons! I hope you all enjoy this video, and I will have another one out very soon!

“I don’t have an explanation for it but I like it” is how I’ve rockhounded since I was a kid. I’m 65 now and just learning the types of rocks and their names 🤣

Theo, we really enjoy your channel. I've been watching for a while now and I'm already looking for rocks😂 (and so is my 81 year old mother)
You seem like such a great soul and really passionate about what you do. The challenges are great too!
Been looking for new stuff on/in your Etsy store.
You've taught me so many things I've always wanted to know. I'm collecting/rockhounding now and have bought a few tools. Setting up my workshop that's been empty of life for years. Thanks for inspiring me and all the others that enjoy what you do.
Wishing you and yours the best of life. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see you get your 100k UA-cam plaque!
    That's definitely going to happen!

I agree! Those mossy/dendritic opal agates are beautiful! And those botryoidal pockets are so nice too! It took us a while to realize, a lot of the stuff we find has quite a bit of common opal here in Utah. Great video Theo!

Love the Fluorescent stones. You should carry a light with you next time. Might be other fluorescent material.

I absolutely love that dendritic opal. I may have gotten a few cabs & some tumbles from a certain Oregonian gnome we know 🫢
Some people call it merlinite, but I have had it up to here 🙆‍♂️ with the "trade names" of many rocks. Mostly the ever-growing number of materials that have the word "merlinite" in their "trade name."
P.S. "Sorry" for all the quotation bunny ears 🐰

Those are amazing agates! And you're right, totally different, than what you normally hunt, on the Yellowstone. And I could totally see, someone walking by those, and not even slowing down to look at it. Or better yet, picking it up, and then throwing it back down, to look for something prettier. It is kind of an ugly rock! But they don't know what it truly is! They are beautiful! both of those small cans you made were gorgeous! And that first one with that little crystal-ish pocket in the middle made that one really pretty, and then you showed the last one! It was much more plain, but just so beautiful and the dendrites seem to be surrounding the cab, and it looks like the dendrites are coming out of that dark layer, that surrounds the yellowish common opal center! It's beautiful! And as much as I like the slices, the two little finished cabs are my favorites! ❤ Thank you so much Theo, and Kim (hi Kim, MRM) for showing the beauty of the ugly rocks! ❤

Dendritic opal from Wyoming, yes please. I heard of Medicine Bow dendritic agate from Wyoming, yours is a little similar. Nice little cabs, gets me inspired to try some small ones. Thanks for sharing the experiences.

That stuff is awesome! Some of it even looks like it might be brecciated!
Given the difference of hardness between agate and opal, do you have any issues with undercutting? 🤔
