It was the worst debate performance in presidential history
That is correct.
It was the worst Biden stuttered and couldn't remember numbers and dates ,and Trump lied for 90 minutes and even took credit for Obama's Veterans bill Obama got passed and the people asking the questions were not fact checking Trump lies they only were checking time limits . The entire debate was a failure. I'm still VOTING BIDEN/ HARRIS though to save our country.
Dementia is a handicap that no man can plan, study, bluff their way through in a debate of any nature much less a Presidential debate where the pressure and stakes are so high.
It wasn't a debate when everything that came out of trumps mouth was an insult or a lie! not one accomplishment , not an honest one anyway!

I don't agree that Biden "got better" over time. To the extent that's true, it misses the point. His best answers were still relatively bad. It made no sense for Biden to run in the first place. Now it's obvious he should step aside.

He is physically weak, this i knew, but i now see from the debate that he is cognitively frail too. Please step aside and lets bring in someone new who can do this. He is simply not up for the job. Here's the thing. We are in the same state of affairs that the country was in when they voted for Trump, just because they wanted someone else. That proved to be disastrous. But the DNC should get a clue and understand that this is an opportunity to honor Biden but choose someone who can inspire the nation like when another "unknown" Obama won over the country with his message of hope.

It was a slow start and a slow finish. As a debate, he did not win. Not so bad in itself. But he showed himself to be confused and unable to follow and project a narrative. Is this person capable of governing? Really?

In my opinion, you have two options. 1) Run Newsom for pres with Bernie VP and win with something new, or, do something really radical; a swap ticket where Biden swaps for VP and Kamala Pres.
I prefer Newsom and Bernie because that seems a double win, but there's a way to get Joe moving and to be moral, ethical and kind with a tremendous president who served in the impossible who is exhausted from all the work.
