My daughter and I just returned from a week in Switzerland including Interlaken and Zermatt. Your videos bring back great memories and point out many places we didn't get to visit giving me reason to return. I agree with you, it's the most beautiful place in the world. Thank you for sharing your excellent videography and story telling. Cheers!
Paddy, I just discovered your channel. I‘m swiss, from Thun, so actually near Interlaken at the Thunersee :) I absolutely think you‘ve done your whole Switzerland Trip the right way. Many Tourists just visit the country for like 3-5 days which is not at all enough I think. You can only say you‘ve experienced our beautiful landscapes when you really had time to do so. Loved the vid, looking forward to watch your other vlogs :D keep it up! 👌🏼🇨🇭
It's not that bad if you do some research and it also depends on your constraints. For example, whenever I go to Interlaken, I stay in Valley Hostel in Lauterbrunnen for 30 CHF per day (they haven't changed their price for years). You can use their kitchen, you save wasting money for breakfast right there. This presumes you don't mind staying in a room with 6 people 🙂I usually go there to paraglide so all I need is a place to sleep and have cool company. Next thing: buy a transportation pass of some kind. It can save you a TON of money. There are different types so you need, yes, to _research_ that. I always get the HalfFare pass (HalbTax in German) which for 120 CHF gives you 50% off (fifty)of _all_ transportation for _one month_ (trains, aerial trams, buses, boats, funiculars, etc.) This means, for example, that the HalfFare pass will FAPP pay for itself with just one ride to the Jungfraujoch. And even if you don't go there (keep in mind it takes more than 2 hours to go _one way_ there!) but only intend to take a few cable car rides, the fees will accumulate quickly. There are other passes, of course. Another thing: download and install the SBB (Swiss rail) app on your phone. You can do it even now. This app is not only very easy to use and not only allows you to buy train tickets (skipping the lines) but it also offers _substantial discounts on top of the HalfFare pass._ The only catch is that those discounted tickets are for a _specific_ ride, so you either use it or lose it. But the savings can be substantial, it's no gimmick! Very useful. Last but not least: anywhere in Europe whenever you use your credit card, the checkout machine will ask you whether you want the charge in Swiss francs ("CHF") or in your home currency. The RULE is: ALWAYS select the local currency (Swiss francs in this case). This will always give you the best exchange rate (namely, the interbank rate which is normally not available to individuals). For eating out, ask the locals where they go if they don't feel like cooking at home, it's usually some nice place a bit away from the usual tourist hangouts where people speak only Swiss German 🙂Anyway, that's for starters. haha.
I used to holiday in Switzerland with my parents every summer and winter (1 month each!) and I loved it there. The nature, skiing, taking long walks to mountain cabins with my dad (over glaciers and all)...what I remember is a big headache at the start from the high altitude and always being hungry somehow. Must be the clean air and all those activities. Looking forward to the next episodes, Paddy.
Have been watching your videos of the Dolomites and Switzerland and they are so calming and informative. Really enjoy them. My daughter is volunteering in Greece and we have a week off after we leave Greece. I agree about that beautiful gorge.
I love Thailand and Asia. But this is so refreshing, Paddy, to see you in a different part of the world! I've been to Switzerland and it is like a fairytale land. Stunning beauty and I just remember how clean it was. Say hi to Roger Federer for us! 😂
What i like most is that you explore it like most swiss would do. Bring your Pick Nick (food) bought in a supermarket. That saves you sooooo much money
Great series Paddy! Your hike is double duty with those camera positions and long shots! You've got to be in good shape for this one! Thanks for doing the hard work for us.
Thank you for the beautiful video, bring back so much good memories of my holidays in Switzerland 🇨🇭. Looking forward to the next video on the Swiss Alps. 😊
I‘m from Switzerland and it‘s reaally really beautiful how you picture your journey and my home ;) The places you went to are very pretty but also how you said very touristic (except maybe the „big hike“). I would suggest you and all the other people who want visit Switzerland to also go see the local side or other sights, which aren‘t so popular. There you can really see the actual „lifestyle“ and culture of switzerland, for example little alp houses, where they often have smt to drink or go to a Jodelfest (our culture doesn‘t contain out of only cheese and good chocolate ;)). Also we aren‘t as boring and unfriendly as we in first impression might seem, because I heard that from a couple visitors now. We just are very respectful and short spoken(?) when it comes to meeting foreigners but we actually can be very fun and outgoing and love showing you our fav spots in the region. Except in the bigger cities, there people really just like their privacy when they‘re in public. Hope that my advice may have helped you a bit and also that my english here wasn‘t too terrible lol
Wonderful Paddy !🤩🤗✌you actually chose one of the most beautiful areas with great views - but there are sooo many that are spectacular in Switzerland ! Enjoy your stay❤👍
Thanks for the tip about Get Your Guide! I just booked a day trip from Dubrovnik to Mostar. A friend of mine says she has has great experiences with them also!!
We love your adventures Paddy! My 3 year old son Monty laughed his head off when you spilled your beer. While I cried a silent tear for you 😂 thanks for keeping it real! Greetings from Brisbane, Australia. Hope to see you here one day 😊
Had a great, "Oh NO"...when you knocked the beer over. It was genuine and I was in the moment. Look forward to the rest of the series. Next Level for sure!
1:07 A quick tip: when travelling from Zürich to Interlaken, take the train _through Lucerne_ instead. Not only it's _cheaper(!)_ than going through Bern, but the Lucerne-Interlaken leg is a fantastic narrow-gauge cog-wheel affair through breathtaking landscapes. You go up and then down to Meiringen (where Sherlock Holmes fought Professor Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls) and then the train approaches Interlaken along the northern shore of Lake Brienz. So why is it cheaper than going through Bern which involves much less interesting views and several tunnels? I don't know the answer, my guess is that the trip through Lucerne is about 1 hour longer, so the Swiss rail considers it less "useful" or something?
I love how you shoot your videos and the information you give. It not only is enjoyable to watch but also gives you a taste of what you will be dealing with as far as all the loose ends. Thanks so much Mr. Paddy!!😊
What a great start to your new series! And how differently quaint , cool, yet challenging and beautiful Switzerland is from SEA. I am looking forward to the other episodes, although, I already feel for you for all those extra miles you ll be doing back and forth for camera shots 🥲
I went to Switzerland for 3 days last month - only got to stay in Interlaken for one day but really enjoyed it. It was nice to see some of the places in this video that I didn’t get to go to. I love the commentary throughout the video too! I stayed 5 minutes away Interlaken West station in Unterseen!
Hi Paddy, lovely video as always, your stuff keeps getting better snd better. I really really felt for you when you knocked over your beer especially since you were looking forward to it so much! Hope you're well and still enjoying traveling around. Take care!
I just found your channel and you are truly a delight. We are headed to Switzerland in October. Five years ago we were there for 3 days and we had an accident in Grindelwald and I broke both my knees. Had surgery in Interlaken and flew home with my legs stuck straight out. My husband cracked 2 ribs and broke his elbow. It was a nightmare. I do have anxiety about going again 5 years later (same month) but I will have travel insurance (something we'd never even thought about) and won't be riding a Trottie bike down the Alps. I can't wait to watch the rest of your series.
Thankyou SO much!! I was there I September 2019, just a few months before the world went belly up! I need to return and see everything I didn’t get to see then. Loving the feeling of familiarity and awe at the sensational beauty of the Jungfrau region. Thanks Paddy! Warmest regards from Perth Western Australia
Hi Paddy, This took me back to the Summer of 1987 when I lived in Germany. My German gf and I visited Interlaken, Wengen and the Jungfrau region then The Black Forest in Germany. Glorious days and amazing mountain views. Best wishes from Bangkok.
Good Day Paddy. Nice to see you visit my home country. Looking forward to live there again when I retire. Right now living in the UAE. By the way the trip to ZRH was not 9-10 hours. It is roughly 06:15 but what's 2-3 hours when you are having fun. Wish you have all the fun in Switzerland and your hike. But don't plan on walking 15-25 km every day. You will probably not last, with your condition. Used to be hiking over these hills myself like a non puffing Swiss but these days I huff and puff too, as I am just not in the same conditions. Still manage though well. One advice to you, have a hiking stick with you when it becomes steep going down and in particular when you carry too much in the backpack. It gets into knees and hips. One other tip. Consider the half tax fare ticket from SBB which makes you then pay only half the price for all the trains, buses, ships and most of the cable cars and gondolas. The cost is about 165-185 CHF but is paid quickly with just a few trips. If for example you go up the Jungfrau and have that it would already pay you more than half of the regular fare. Eating out is expensive in Switzerland but if you go to Mama and Papa Restaurants it gets more reasonable. Avoid any such places as Starbuck and other brand names. Good and cheap places to shop for food is Lidl and Aldi and when you go for the cheaper versions in Coop and Migros (which is probably the same quality as the normal) you can safe quite a bit. Also look for breads and so on after 18:00 when todays fresh made foods sell often for 50% off. Or look for food which are expiring on todays day and sell reduced. All these things are perfectly fine to consume for another few days. Unless you carry it in the backpack for hours and it is stuff which should stay cooled. If you need any other particular tips ask me and I answer in private.
You are doing it the right way Paddy! Going on that hike instead of taking the train was the best decision.Hiking can be grounding, humbling and mind calming. Nature is the best healer. I love that you are showing us the details of where you get your food, how much everything costs…I have been seeing your IG stories in Switzerland and I am very excited to continue watching this series. Great work 👏🏻👏🏻
Without a doubt awesome scenery and quite a hike you have there! And sure it expensive! I wonder if one choose to stay at a Airbnb would it help if one can prepare some meals on your own? Thanks for sharing, great tip for sure
Great vlog Paddy good information for anyone interested in following in your footsteps on the hike. I can't wait to watch the next vlog and i'm anticipating the next level breath taking views you will show us. Always awesome.
I like the comment about the locals. A few years back in Chiang mai I was runing repeats on the pilgrims trail up to doi suthep - I met the worlds most popular podcaster visiting Chiang Mai mainly got the kick-boxing who asked me how long it takes to get back to Chiang mai. Thirty minutes I said for me. The next day I meet him again and he called be all sorts of names as it had taken him 2 hours!
Absolutely loved this video. Gave me the Budgeteers vibe & I'm completely digging it. Love the cost analysis and real look at the tourist side of how many folks of different nationalities are visiting. Keep up the great work! Hopefully you'll find the elusive old VW to capture in your film as I'm always watching for another in your videos.
I have to get my mind around Thailand's best vlogger is in Europe. As a young man I went to live in Nice, France and lived there for a year, and have returned countless times. I thought I'd retire there until my daughter moved to Chiang Mai, and when I started to visit her 6 years ago, I slowly developed a love of that city and ended up there instead. I think you will find some of the most beautiful architecture in the world in Europe, beautiful clear rivers and bays, and nice people welcoming of everyone who respects their culture, as of course you always do. I look forward to watching - no skipping - your travels, and I wish you a very rewarding trip.
Fantastic vlog, beautiful pictures, breathtaking scenery. Walking uphills in Switzerland is hard as the oxygen in the air diminishes more and more for every step. Anyway very healthy
Thanks for the look into the future of Next Level Adventures. Paddy Doyle with perhaps Paddy Doyle Jr. and Miss Pea. tagging alone. Now that would be the cutest thing ever.
Just discovered your channel as I'm whiling away my time waiting for my next trip over in a bit. Switzerland is back to preCovid tourism and Interlaken can be mass humanity but as you've discovered, getting out of the hubbub is just a bit away. Looking forward to traveling with you on your big hike (as the gentler ones are the ones for me ;)) Video is well done with good tips for traveling this country. Migros, Coop, and Volg (in smaller villages) are the way to go for the most part as far as food is concerned.
Saas Fee is beautiful too and is the village where Wham filmed Last Christmas it’s in the same Canton as Zermatt plus it has the highest mountain The Dom in Switzerland. Great content as usual keep up the great work.
Yay woohoo so good to see you in Switzerland. The lake (it's a lake right?) looks so pretty blue. The hike looked hard but not for the lady with the dog 😂😂. It's going to be an awesome adventure 😎👍
Gee - I just missed you. I was in Switzerland in September for 7 nights. And spent 3 nights in Interlaken at the Hotel Sonne Interlaken. I passed the backpackers hostel a few times. Isn't it a beautiful town? The color of the water there was amazing. Switzerland is very expensive though. We stayed at the cheapest hotel we could get at the last minute and it averaged $450 Canadian a night. But worth every penny. We did a day trip to Lauterbrunnen which is also beautiful.
Exciting this new Serie, great debut Paddy! I will follow it with pleasure as I am Swiss, living in Thailand 555 :P I hope Switzerland treats you well man, safe trip 🙏

I’m planning a trip to Switzerland, so great to see this series. Heard it was extremely expensive, but you’ve shown it can be done reasonably, thanks.

Amazing video 😊so beautiful in schweitz thanks for sharing 😊looks forward to the next video
Thank you! 😃
Awesome! Thank you!
I look forward to watching - no skipping - your travels, and I wish you a very rewarding trip.
cheers mate!
Fantastic vlog, beautiful pictures, breathtaking scenery. Walking uphills in Switzerland is hard as the oxygen in the air diminishes more and more for every step. Anyway very healthy
Great hike! Really looking forward to this series!
More to come!
nicee video 📹 📹
Thanks for the look into the future of Next Level Adventures. Paddy Doyle with perhaps Paddy Doyle Jr. and Miss Pea. tagging alone. Now that would be the cutest thing ever.
haha
You Look 👀Wonderful So Happy To See Your journey continue✨ 🎉💫
Thank you so much!!
That was a hike, the next is a trek and a major one at that
Marvelous Video Paddy !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks like it’s going to be an awesome trip. Thanks for bringing it to us.
You bet!
The View and the Video is very good sir
I love your videos and I am so grateful for showing us we can careful with our money when we travel.
Glad you like them!
Saas Fee is beautiful too and is the village where Wham filmed Last Christmas it’s in the same Canton as Zermatt plus it has the highest mountain The Dom in Switzerland. Great content as usual keep up the great work.
Thanks for the info!
I will follow it with pleasure as I am Swiss, living in Thailand 555 :P I hope Switzerland treats you well man, safe trip 🙏
cheers!
In a way, we have swapped places. While you were visiting my home country, I was touring Thailand. Glad to see you enjoyed it.
That Coop is great! They do a small Vegan range as well. Was my life saver in Zurich! Lovely vid as always mate❤
Good old co-op ❤️

Don't forget Trümmelbach Falls in the Lauterbrunnen Valley- Unesco World Heritage site.
