The Mig-29 engines emit more smoke than any other engine in a fighter, a very poor design in which their customers have had to have many of them replaced after only about half of their life cycle costing the operators millions in extra cost. Add that to Algeria returned a batch of 15 Mig-29's because of terrible workmanship with panels not aligning, big gaps in panels, canopy glass having distortions so bad that looking out the glass would give the pilots headaches also the canopy glass was separating from the frames like with the SU-27's! Engines not having the advertised thrust to go along with heavily smoking engines like you see here, which is not a good thing when your enemy can spot you far off because of the smoke!

Sure the plane has its weaknesses but it is still very god design agile and reliable if maintained properly. Most countries like Czech Rep replaced them because difficulties with spare parts and theirs quality which was related to disastrous condition of Russian industry in 90`s Still Indians have chosen MiG-29 as theirs naval fighter. Worth mentioning is that F-16 with option for F-35 lost in India with Rafale.
