Mohini has taken her place among the immortals. There is always room for another Goddess on the Mount Olympus of the immortals, or perhaps among the Hindu Pantheon. I can't believe the number of idiotic comments about Mohini lacking soul. She is the perfect fusion of soul and technique which is why so many great musicians are seeking her out to play with her. This is not a concert, but a demonstration at a Namm exhibition where the point is to show off her masterful technique so other bassists will buy a $10,000.00 bass believing they will play as well with a beautiful precision crafted instrument. The sad fact is that any of them who buy into the myth will never look as good in a silver sequin skirt, nor will they sound as good on a $10,000.00 bass as Mohini can on a $100.00 bass. All the trolls and haters who cannot tolerate the narcissistic malignance of their own morbid bile spew it on others and find fault in matters so trivial and irrelevant as they have made themselves. I challenge all the haters to post videos of their majestic playing so we can compare to Mohini.
This girl will be a force to be reckoned with for many years to come. If she has chops like this now can you imagine her 10, 15, or 20 years from now? She will take her place beside the greats.
She can be added to the list of technically great bass players.Historically the most influential bass players have been those who were with great bands who wrote great songs that were hits.
she is indeed the female goddess of india.. i have always been her fan, when ever i listen to her i feel like how can a teen girl in such age can play bass in such beautiful manner.. i being a drummer admire a lot. a big fan of mohini dey.. she is younger than me still i always respect her a lot... mam take bow!!
Wow I can't believe all the negative critics I wonder if they could do any better she's on a journey and headed to a very beautiful place 😏 her talent is a gift from GOD take it up with HIM 🤔
This 24 yrs old Mumbaiker has been on hype for the past few years with her bass playing abilities carrying this art which often remains underated to the shadow of other guitars on lead to an extra height attracting even the great guitarist Steve Vai and others in the scene... To me it looks her creation is whole of an improvised bass playing on the beats of Indian percussion instruments like the Tabla, Dholak, Mridangam and thus has earned her a place which sounds unique to the western listeners who are used to the way bass line has long been played.... She is Mohini Dey, a prodigy from the land of noise and chaos..😜😜
You're right, Rajiv!!!! She's Sweet Human Being as firstly! And, sweet lady, totally Indian pride!!!!!!!! I was few meters from her, I still can't believe that I wasn't dreamin'.....She is extraordinary bassist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Long Live India! Love so much that country, its culture, mystic little things everywhere......lydian mode, mixolydian mode.....All the best, Rajiv!
Truly an amazing young bassist, hard to believe I started following her 5 years ago! I think the best thing is is that she's not a one trick pony, she's got the chops to cover a lot of music! I'd love to see her with a full orchestra doing a mixture of Classical/Jazz, heck I'd love to write it for her! More power to you baby girl!!
I remember on actual video of her playing this very song, people were arguing about it being sped up. Now that they have a truly live video, now they are arguing if shes better than 90% of the planet or 85% or 99% or if shes too young or old enough to be this good. I'll tell you this, none of us will probably be this good even when we are 40-50-60 yo... Fucking people... :D She is so god damn amazing, end of story! Enjoy if you can. I know I can! \o/
People take others opinions too seriously. Don’t feed the haters, let them waste their breath. Mohini is a great talent IMHO, and others may disagree. That’s fine, it matters not to me. I don’t know them, they don’t know me, so why would I expend a minute of my time on their opinion unless there were something in it for me? Just my philosophy, and others will have their own. I’m looking forward to more of Mohini in the future, and that 2015 video of “Day by Dey”... I think it’s outstanding, Mohini and the drummer’s performances, but that’s my opinion. Cheers.
See that's my problem! How can you watch this and say she can't play! Hell, you might not like what she does , but you got to admit that she has amazing technique. She is young, and like most young technical phenoms, she plays a lot of notes. It's cool. She sounds good. AND she will only get better!
somehow we cant seem to appreciate anyone who plays like crazy especially if one's different......she's plays on basic gear and sound phenom......give her some heavy duty gear and she beat the daylights of atleast 95% other bassists.....dont lookk down on phenom talent from other lands.......keep you mind open .....music has no borders.
What kind of technique are u taking about...? Hear carefully she have miss a thousand pops and slaps and bunch of notes dat u cannot if u r up stage just because she is girl and young everyone is appreciating....she needs to work on her bass a lot...
Lots of kids could play the hell out of their instruments in the 20's and on but there was no You Tube but you can sure watch the older player now and thankfully the younger players, so very lovely and WOW!
Another blessing to this earth I give blessing to her parents and family first for bringing joy and disciplined people to our planet and music world she is in a goddess rank
The Bass ain't nothing but a piece of wood to me it holds the beat and colours things up to set the mood,I love her playing she's Awesome, damn fine too, keep it up ..☺️☺️
Scroll to 1:56 to see the real thing. Thats "Dey by Day" feat MoDe and Gergo Borlai. If you saw that video, a LOT of commenters said the video was sped and what not. Right here, she destroys all those commenters. I personally have seen her playing with Marco Minneman from 20ft distance. I can never forget the show.
when you read "their " (not they're, because usually they are also ignorant as a dog crap) "playing at double speed" it's from mediocre cretins that made nothing good in their life because their value is ZERO. LEt them remain a bunch of haters doomed to take kicks in the teeth til death and fuck them
A girl from India (where music is NEVER considered a worthwhile career to have), and this young, to be this versatile, on an instrument that "most" Indians don't know actually exist -- even among my friends here in TX. That says something. Mohini beats most bassists by miles -- be it Tal, Carol Kaye, Kim Deal, et. al. Why? For most part, encouragement and opportunities in music are pretty much available for the asking, but not in India. It's hard, very hard, to break that glass ceiling. So here's to Mohini Dey -- keep it up. We are looking and we are proud.
Yes, I did say "music" -- without reference to Indian or Western. My point was that in India, at least during my teenage years and early 20s, as a general rule, the pursuit of music as a profession was not the norm. However, I can barely complain as I would have been gladly allowed to continue with music as a profession, but I had other plans.
Hey.. Things are changing now in India. At least in the last fifteen to twenty years things HAVE changed. For example, major rock/metal bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden (twice already), Lamb of God, Napalm Death, Sepultura, Slayer, etc have toured India in the last ten years with quiet a good reception. Agreed, We are still third world. But slowly and steadily things in India are changing. Lets hope we continue changing towards the right direction and continue giving the world musicians like Mohini and many more.. Peace out!!
Oh mein Gott. Das ist eine Menge Arbeit so gut spielen zu können. Ihr Aussehen ist super, der Bass sieht aus wie ein Raumschiff und das was sie spielt ist gigantisch.
I hope I never get really good at my instrument, because when you do, everyone seems to hate you. So, you see my decision to suck is conscious and purposeful. OK maybe not.
LIKE I SAY SOLO TECHNIQUE ETC IS FANTASTIC BUT WHEN IT COMES TO PLAY IS WHERE THE GROOVE THE INSPIRATION SHOULD POPS OUT !!!! WHO ELSE WD HAVE CREATED THE BASS LINE OF BERNARD EDWARDS IN “ GOOD TIME “ LEGENDARY BASS LINE ) not that complicated to play BUT WHERE DID HE GET THAT INSPIRATION ?????? is that kind of inspiration I hope always to have when I play bass !!!!! RIP Bernard , you know where .., you got that ...
So pretty and young, you are the best youngest bass player i ever heard or seen. In years to come you will be the best bass player ever. So young, pretty and talented.
Thank God she's not a teenager bc a kid playing like that would only highlight how much we all suck at whatever it is we think we do well. But an adult playing like that allows us mortals some semblance of pride. Ph--eee--yuu

Everytime I thought I saw it all, a young new talent comes to crush my existence and reinvent the universe.
Me too. You said it!!!
She is the real deal... Most can practice a lifetime and never get to this level. Gifted
yes she is
She can be added to the list of technically great bass players.Historically the most influential bass players have been those who were with great bands who wrote great songs that were hits.
Her genius is more than the speed or intricacy----these have become almost commonplace in modern music....it's in her ever-changing new directions..
WOW!! I am still in awe of this amazingly talented Mohini Dey! A true gem in music today!
she is indeed the female goddess of india.. i have always been her fan, when ever i listen to her i feel like how can a teen girl in such age can play bass in such beautiful manner.. i being a drummer admire a lot. a big fan of mohini dey.. she is younger than me still i always respect her a lot... mam take bow!!

She's talented, black woman, yes, I think we r gonna claim her!!!!!
Truly an amazing young bassist, hard to believe I started following her 5 years ago! I think the best thing is is that she's not a one trick pony, she's got the chops to cover a lot of music! I wanted to say exactly this. Thank you! I remember many swearing that it was sped up. Now, they have something else to say. Egoistical junks!
People take others opinions too seriously. Don’t feed the haters, let them waste their breath.

She's at NAMM. There are several videos where she's playing in a band.
What kind of technique are u taking about...? Hear carefully she have miss a thousand pops and slaps and bunch of notes dat u cannot if u r up stage just because she is girl and young everyone is appreciating....she needs to work on her bass a lot...

All those guys you mentioned can walk great lines through a blues. I doubt if she can...., yet.
Dangerous with that bass she’s holding. She’s the ultimate baddie!
Wow, amazing! Tq4sharing.

There are entire hereditary castes that specialise in Music
That's a pity, really.

PHENOMENAL is an understatement!!! SHE CAN PLAY !!!

She can't be described in words
Mohini is a great bassist, but she is NOT a teenager. She was born in 1996, so she's AT LEAST 21.
who gives a shit, she is stunningly brilliant!
Thank God she's not a teenager bc a kid playing like that would only highlight how much we all suck at whatever it is we think we do well.
But an adult playing like that allows us mortals some semblance of pride.
