I'm on the GL-AXT1800 right now from a hotel in Sweden. I've been using it for a week and it's OUTSTANDING. I just have all my devices set up on wifi for this one. The first time I go to a place with a new wifi network or a captive portal, I use one device to join the router to the new network and navigate the captive portal. Then all of my devices "just work". If I had a wish... I'd want something like this with more CPU/RAM and option for m.2 internal storage. Let me run Docker on it. There's some stuff like searXNG, etc. I'd love to run right on the router. I'd pay more for this.
The GL.iNet routers don’t support Docker, but I heard other brands like Firewella do. I’m not really sure why you would need m.2 because even with 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, you still wouldn’t be able to saturate NVMe speed. The built-in USB 3.0 is plenty fast enough.
I want to travel abroad, but my company does not allow me to leave my country. If I set up a VPN server at my house, connect the router to it, and use the internet, could they detect the traffic coming through the VPN? In other words, could they know i`m in another country?
If they really wanted to know they probably could but it would be difficult as they would have to know you may not be in the US and not believe the first point of IP Address. I know some government contract companies don’t allow their employees to go outside the United States with their laptops and even work outside of the United States. I would say if I were you, I probably wouldn’t do it.
If you are using a company laptop: make sure to turn off location, turn off wifi on laptop, and connect to router through ethernet only. My friend works for the government (US Air Force) and uses a Slate to connect to his home VPN server while working a few days "at home".

Surely there is a solution for you.
