Ryan Lawntang is awesome for taking the time to do this video. Got to love FD staff for being down to earth. willing to interact directly with the fans, and putting on an awesome show.
Ehhh, its possible its a G7X, which are notoriously bad about dust behind the lens. Theres a way to drill a hole and clean it as well, though you run the risk of damaging a $650+ camera
Ryan is a great ambassador for FD. Multiple worlds can exist with the same people in it. Had no idea about the decel rule or passing. The line about perfection is good but I would still want to hear more about how style translates into judging. Aasbo's darty bumble bee short wheelbase attack style vs. Gittin's slog vacuum and brutish movements. How different tracks favor certain platforms and drivers. 10 years from now what will the rules be and will we see other categories of drift competition- canyon and pike's peak style tandems? Hahahah could they ever ensure safety in a rally setting like that? One can only dream
Wait, so the less handbrake you use, the better points you get? This whole time I thought that angles gained _from_ handbrakes are the ones that give you points! This pretty much revealed that the core essentials of traditional drifting is still alive, used and advocated in modern drifting! Thank you Ryan for this amazing discovery.
It still surprises me that there’s only 3 judges. Having more may make it more complicated but will give the drivers and fans way more confidence in every call
If you watch the Irish drift championship or British they explain the run while the replay is being played, makes for great viewing when the crowd and drivers know why each decision is being made. All on UA-cam if you care enough to take a look :) great as always Taylor :)
Dude this vid was awesome. Thanks a lot for having a judge explain it. Legitimately enjoyed this video and understand FD WAAAAY more. Thanks Taylor, always informin us noobs lol, keep up the vids!
One thing I'm curious about, with how often they talk about expecting a 100 point run in tandem, is do they internally score the lead runs to help them judge, and know who was better by how much?
Wish I could watch FD in the U.K. From old stuff ive found on youtube and such it looks F*****g great. As usual great informative upload , thanks Taylor :)
I think their calls during tandem competition are as accurate as you can expect from any referee in any sport. Their calls in qualifying are another story, I definitely think you can see bias in their qualifying scoring. Aasbos qualifying at FDORL was biased and even Aasbo fans saw that to be the case.
Tyler Pelletier I still don't get how Deane won the 2 battles befor he went against Forsberg. I thought they would both be OMT. I'm not sure which one he was talking to Laurette about but Deane thought it was going to be a OMT too.
Look at Di and RAD Dan. Both had solid leads and some bobbled follow runs. But Di got the win. Even other fd drivers said that is a one more time and gasped when it was given to Di.
Questions about tandems....i did my lead run and completed the 1st run.... 2nd tandem run im chasing....i got bad line from lead driver that sends me into a tyre bank ....am i given another run after as a do over?
No. Judges decide whether it was the leader's fault or yours that you ended up in tires. The decision depends on how close you were to the leader, whether you had enough time to react, etc. In RDS and Drift Master championships judges usually make right call and explain to viewers how the decision was made. American Drift Master, on the other hand, sometimes make strange decisions in my opinion at least in terms of score.
@ReasonX3 ok ok next question....tandem run....I completed my lead run ....now I'm chasing...lead driver over angles and I'm almost passing him cause of my proximity and his from taps into me and we both stop.....am I disqualified from that run cause my car passes him
Yo gingum is selling a miata that would be a great parts car for u same color and it has some decent looking wheels on it just figured I would pass the word it’s on his most recent video about race car interior or something like that just a suggestion
There is a lot of subjectivity involve in scoring. Judging criteria including style just makes its worst. These mechanics build 1000hp put it on a dyno just to get judged. It drifting should be a race not a beauty pageant.
Drift Masters have pretty good judges and the rules of score calculation overall are more clear. And drifting still looks spectacular: pilots try to drive as precise as they can filling all zones, plus there are lots of very close pair drift. I'd say that I enjoy Drift Masters runs more then Formula Drift ones.
We so need a video now about the japan car and what’s going on with it

Fd is a station
It wont be a Taylor Ray video without a dirty lens 🙃
The spots are dirt on the cameras censor. Not on the lens.

This is super useful. I think you're right about the explanations cutting down on the confusion this year.
What did happen to the JZX in Japan
Daniel Spooner probably crashed it
Nicole crashed it pretty sure it's been worked out by now
probably he sold it.
my guess is he sold it too adam, adam talked about wanting to buy it off him last trip and taylor has talked about wanting to buy a cheaper car
grant tommyfyeahs mate has been drivein it not sure if he owns it or not
I wish they would've explained Rad Dan's 22nd qualifying score of only 81.
Ryan lantagne is the fucking man every event I see him at I always have to say what’s up mad respect for that guy
It still surprises me that there’s only 3 judges. Having more may make it more complicated but will give the drivers and fans way more confidence in every call
Cool for someone like me who isn’t a drifting follower to hear that stuff. Especially the expectations of the two drivers.
Still want to know how Hohnadell scored a 89 in qualifying when he wasn’t even close to the bank and smoked the cone coming off the bank lol
I meet Ryan here in Rio de Janeiro in the Super Drift Brasil and this guy are awsome!
Bring Formula drift insider back that show was the best!
If you watch the Irish drift championship or British they explain the run while the replay is being played, makes for great viewing when the crowd and drivers know why each decision is being made. All on UA-cam if you care enough to take a look :) great as always Taylor :)
8 minutes in to start learning how drifting gets scored
Dude this vid was awesome. Thanks a lot for having a judge explain it. Legitimately enjoyed this video and understand FD WAAAAY more. Thanks Taylor, always informin us noobs lol, keep up the vids!
That’s really cool. More interviews like this one. Very interesting/educational
Thank you for the detailed information from the judge! I am about to make a drifting explanation video as well. Very helpful!! :)
Yo these video are awesome! Love how you’re asking drivers questions and now a judge! That’s badass and letting us beginners know more
One thing I'm curious about, with how often they talk about expecting a 100 point run in tandem, is do they internally score the lead runs to help them judge, and know who was better by how much?
This cleared up so munch! Thank you!
This was fucking sick man. One of the best vids yet
This video is awesome. It explains so much
You can’t just blow off the Jzx like that haha. What’s the story?
SHORT ANSWER: The teams with the craziest cars and the most money always win as long as they don't break.
Wish I could watch FD in the U.K. From old stuff ive found on youtube and such it looks F*****g great.
As usual great informative upload , thanks Taylor :)
Just watch the livestream. BDC and IDC are also just as exciting as FD.

You the the GOAT taylor
Realy good content, Keep up the great work :D
Great video Mr. Ray. I have to agree with everything said here. Because drifting is so f#$!& Crazy, the rules are subject to be the same.
What happened to your japan car?!!
according to Kuro Lifestyle (Tony) and Grant.- Grant bought it.

Long story short, if judges decide that the leader is at fault then you automatically win the run.

Found it! Thanks lol
Forgot to ask him his pick under $5000
When returning to Japan ?
What's up with the jzx?
ITS JUDGED BY HOW GOOD YOUR SPONSOR IS. SHIT IS SO RIGGED. FUCK FD
Please make a video about Mark II in Japan? Please buy a chaser for America
Most Chasers are illegal in the US as they aren't 25 years old. Even the legal ones are stupid fucking expensive.
Didnt Grant buy your JZX?? o0
