In case anyone else gets confused by this, the current model of the 190 is much bigger than the one depicted here. The 190XPRO3 max height is 160cm, compared to the 190XPROB's 146cm. Seems silly for Manfrotto to even use the same number for it, but hey ho. (The 055XPRO3 is 170cm). As you'd expect, the weight has gone up too, from 1.8kg to 2kg (The 055 is 2.5kg).
The manfrotto 290 dual is right in the middle of these two in weight but is only 5 cm shorter than the O55 but has exactly the same features with a 90 degree centre column so I use my 290 dual for the longer hikes and the O55 for the shorter walks I just prefer the tripods being taller so I don't have to use the centre column up by very much so I'm not bending down to look through the view finder just my preference it's good to see the height differences between the 190 and the O55 im glad I went down the 290 dual and the O55 route thanks for sharing your thoughts
Thanks for your video. I have been looking for answers to my questions for days regarding the difference in height and other elements. I found it in a video that is 9 years old. Thanks.
Thanks. The side by side comparison seems to give people a better understanding of the differences. I never understood why manfrotto or one of the pro gear shops didn't make a video like this.
Thanks for the review. I currently own the 055XPROB and was looking for a lighter tripod to carry around. The 190XPROB is on my list. Would you comment on the weight of it (as well as the amount of weight it could support) and where you find yourself using one over the other? Thanks.
I sold the 190 and kept the 055 for use in my home studio so I am not the best person to comment on this. The weight difference is 1.2 pounds so if you are lugging around your gear try adding some extra weight to your kit and see how it feels. based on the specs, the 55 can hold 19.8 pounds vs 15.4 pounds. If you have huge lenses it could see how it might make a difference. As of 2019, I'd be happier with a BeFree at 3.4 lbs as I would then just leave it in my car trunk.
Hi, I'd say pick the tripod by the weight load and maximum height you'd like for your camera, not your height. If your camera package isn't heavy the 190 might be good enough. Finally, compare the specs of the latest versions of these two models online to see the current height and weight limits. The ones in my video are a few years old now, and someone else commented the specification have changed a bit.
I'd think either would be acceptable. At one point I put the same head on the 055. there were no issues with the fit. I was shooting with an iPad rig at the time though, not a DSLR so take that into account when considering my advice. The 055 will hold more weight and is taller but also is heavier. You may not want to lug that around. Both come in carbon fiber options which and reduce both the weight and your bank account balance. Also keep in mind if you are shooting a lot of video both of these tripods are harder to level than a video tripod. Manfrotto has a center leveling column accessory available for both these tripods that will make it easier to level.
@@alokjoshi4861 if you use a photo tripod for video you'll need to level the legs and make minor adjustments to the head. look at how a video tripod that uses a half ball mount works. Lot's of videos on UA-cam.
Are you referring to the Quick Release plates on the Tripod heads? Most manfrotto tripod heads for photography use their 200PL QR plate The head isn't part of the tripod but depending on what you buy. Video heads use a different plate. Or were you referring to something else?
@@Tech128 Thanks for getting back to me! I was referring to the flat part (top of the tripod column) that the head (ball, fluid, etc) attaches too and sits on top of. The flat part that contains the screw (3/8" I think) that screws into the head.
@@his_name_is_lee I sold the 190 and kept the 055. As far as I remember the size of the mounts on top of the center column were more or less the same. I have a couple other manfrotto accessories and the "plates" seem to be the same too. I was curious so I looked online. I couldn't find a reference as to what that part of the center column is called not did anything list and specs like its diameter.
tech128 ahh I gotcha. Yea they looked to be about the same size but I couldn’t find specs anywhere to verify that. Which is a little surprising to me considering it would useful to know how compatible they are with different tripod heads.. Thanks for letting me know though! I really appreciate your help.

They are both excellent choices I have 3 tripods 055 classice 055pro3 and 475b, if weight was a issue the 190 would be my choice
Thanks! Exactly what I was trying to find - good visual on height!
Gracias por la comparativa, es de mucha utilidad. Saludos
Thank you for the great review! I'm in the market for a new tripod and I was wondering with the real differences were.
you are welcome. The side by side comparison really helped me so I thought I'd share it.
Thanks for posting the differences!!!!!!!!!!
You are welcome. I wish Manfrotto would have done it, but didn't so I did!

Thanks man! Found a special on the 055-3W and the size looks awesome for my height! Cheers again! =D
Glad you found it helpful!
tech128 Indeed it did! Had to buy an additional carry bag for it as its quite hefty though. But an awesome tripod nuntheless =D
hi, I am about 5ft 2in in height, would the 190 be more suitable for me? Thanks

Hi great video, please suggest which one will fit better with MVH502AH, if I'm using Canon 90d for video and photography?

Huge help. Thanks man!
Much appreciated! I didn't understand the differences.
cool. Make sure to read through the other comments. One viewer commented the sizes of later model 055 and 190 models have changed.
What's different between 190 and 290?
-100. 😀. Sorry I don't have a 290.
