- How to disassemble your Avon M50 JSGPM/ gas mask. Part 1 (this video) will show you how to basic disassemble and Part 2 will be reassembly. I initially intended to do both of these in one video but realized the final length would be like 20 min, so apologies for the slight inconvenience. My lighting is a bit overexposed today as well so another round of apologies
Hope you found the video informative and enjoyable- YoMada :)

I don't even own this mask(yet), but I appreciate when people take their time to make this helpful videos. Thanks again and already subscribed.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoy my style of videos :) I always aim to be the most informative of my videos and especially on topics that aren’t really well covered in other people’s videos. Let me know if you ever have a video suggestion, or video i could possibly make a video on!
I've waited a long time for someone to make this. Thank you
haha thats the point of my videos! To cover the lesser talked about topics;) Hope the video actually helped!!
Hey Brother, I’m a CBRN for the Army and i tend to reference you to my soldiers… so they don’t brake my M50s, keep up the good stuff man, you’ve done the cleanest disassembly i’ve ever seen. The air deflectors the 1 & 2 have no specific value it’s just for manufacturing purposes… sorry for the long comment good shit man
No problem at all! And thank you for your service, sir
I still can’t believe you got that mask, anyway great video can’t wait for part 2
i cant believe it either, it’s surreal bro
I appreciate the video!! As I just got two M50 mask a small and medium. I am new to prepping and was excited and immediately tried it on without removing removing the old filters.
But then thought I should probably wait and clean it as I quickly removed and found the filters check mark had turned blue. It was kind of worrying. As I wondered could it be contaminated?
But I believe it was just moisture. Would this be worrisome to anyone else? Especially being purchased surplus.
glad it helped! Make sure you don’t forget to remove the filters prior to washing though lol. But, my filters too are slightly blue and i assume they were recently replaced prior to it being sold to me, and were probably just trapping moisture. As long as the filter has no foul smell from it, or the indicators aren’t a deep blue color, they should definitely still be working (albeit not to their original capability) or good as training filters!
Any good recommendations as to where I can purchase a Avon M50 FM50 Filter Mount Converter Kit, P/N: 601949?
within the US, I know the Aeon Fawkes website has them. But even in the US and elsewhere, you honestly just have to rummage around the internet for them. Sorry I couldn’t give you a direct answer, but I hope that helps a bit
good stuff. appreciate the technical videos. can you do a video on mask application? when/how to don, doff. how to store. how you carry on kit. how it interfaces with other gear (nods, guns, comms, etc). civilian use application.
i will look into it! However I don’t actually have the kit personally to demonstrate how gas masks work with actual firearms and NODs. So i can’t _entirely_ guarantee i will be able to help on that. But, i do believe TREX Arms does have a few videos on something like that!
What’s your opinion on older gas mask filters? All of the literature I’ve seen suggests they go bad after about five years on the shelf. Thoughts?
hey there! Okay, so basically as far as I am aware, dependent on the filter and filter medium some last only five years like you say and some can go up to twenty years. But with time and factors such as the way it is stored and the changing environment in general, filters will always decompose and lose effectiveness but usually extremely slowly. And depending on your intended purpose, older filters can do the job sometimes. If you are for example wanting a filter for training, and or for light chemical work such as handling bleach or household chemicals, old CBRN filters can do the job perfectly. But if you were preparing for some sort of attack using modern chemical agents, you would most likely want to change your filter supply every 2-3 years for example to make sure you have the most protection possible. So TL;DR, an older filter and if it is bad or not is totally up to you and your intended purpose. Hope that helps a bit, and please take eveyrthing I say with a grain of salt as I am not a certified expert on the subject.
@@yomada7790 Absolutely, thank you very much!
@@yomada7790 But yes, my intent is to use this mask in case of a viral/nuclear disaster. I feel kind of crazy for it, but the government buying radiation meds and PSAs of nuclear strikes doesn’t make me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Do you know of a supplier that has these filters within the inspection dates?
@@DiscordOfDave if you are referring to the M50 filters, I believe you can try looking at the sites Grainger and Botach. But I forget if either of them require a special license to purchase. If those don’t work, you can try looking on second hand sites like Ebay and look for in-date filters yourself and see if you have any luck with that.
Anyone know the NSN for retaining Ring for the Nose cup
I unfortunately don’t know it yet, but if I will get back to you if I find it.
Nice video bro! There’s a C50 video I know of that covers the same disassembly tho but for some reason I can’t post the link :(
OHHH I know what you’re referring to. I saw it last time, thanks for the correction!
@@yomada7790 no problem! But you got better lighting btw
@@domp5014 xD
Wow i just realise the nasal cup from C50 and M50 is different lol
Yeah I just wish similar deflector wings were put on the M40 nose cup as well. Would’ve been much better than the plastic airflow deflector
drinking tubes are bad ngl
in general? or just on the M50 specifically
Mostly any gas masks
His voice 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
it’s like the only thing I wish was different lol
