I mean…makes sense. I will add one caveat. For me, if the author profits from my choice of reading their work, and that bothers me more than my separated enjoyment of the work, I’ll also pass. Sometimes, it comes down to not choosing to purchase something or contribute to the author directly. There are a couple authors I can think of where, I’ll still read my copies and enjoy the work periodically, but I won’t contribute more money to them, out of principal. But I agree, don’t let people tell you how to feel about enjoying a piece of art.
Yeah I agree. If the author receiving money is part of that "disgust" then by all means don't buy/read it. I've just noticed a lot of people politicizing things like this and it frustrates me.
@@JasonFuhrman yeah no, for me it’s a comfort thing. In response to another comment, if I choose to not monetarily support an author, it’s purely based on my comfort in doing so, and not because I think that money is going to a bad cause or to further support those views. I separate those pretty quickly, but if I don’t feel great about spending the money, I just won’t, and I may still read the work, for example by borrowing or rereading books I already enjoy.
Thanks for confidently suggesting how we might think, uh, no, um, I mean, reminding me to think for myself, Jason. ✨️🧠👈 And happy end of Summer reading lists! 📚🤓👍
Same. There are too many overly long videos about this topic that are virtue signaling masquerading as discourse. Worse still, they are telling you how you should think.
I'm more likely to need to avoid creators who I know support beliefs I consider harmful to a just and equal society if not an active threat to me as a person. Especially if they're still alive and actively promoting these matters. JK Rowling's entire personality has become "trans women are icky." I can't with that crap. So, I don't deal with her work. Being dead can make a difference. I have a mixed relationship with Rudyard Kipling. For every "Gunga Din" or "White Man's Burden," there are the Just-So Stories and "The Female of the Species". Yes, he was big in the system that oppressed India for many decades. He's long dead and so is the occupation of India by the British. May as well throw away the Roman Empire
And it's your choice to do so. I'm just tired of people trying to take some kind of "moral high horse" and tell people what THEY should do rather than letting everyone make their own decisions.
The problem is that too many people think they are supporting a person's views if they buy their work which is dumb but hey, people are dumb.
Yep.
@@JasonFuhrman JK Rowling has said she believes the people who support her work agree with her. Other problem children don't go that far.
She can say that but it doesn't make it true.
If people were that concerned, libraries would be empty, concert halls silent and pews empty.
I have thoughts on this.
But it'll have to wait til next week.
Looking forward to them.
@@JasonFuhrman Oof, I got a high standard to live up to. I'm a little nervous.

Well said Jason!
thanks!
Well said, as always
thanks!
This is why my philosophy is: stan the art, not the artist.
Well said
Simple as that❤
So well said! I’m so sick and tired of the cancel culture bs.

Is this the Infinite Jest I see?
Yes but it's not mine haha
