- Always be YOURSELF unless you can be a mermaid, then be BOTH. ♥ We've ALL heard the phrase "always be yourself unless you can be a mermaid, then be a mermaid..." and it is SO WRONG! I say, "Always be yourself EVEN if you can be a mermaid," or "Always be yourself unless you can be a mermaid, then be BOTH!" Why? Because you should never choose to be ANYTHING other than yourself. You are unique, you are beautiful and special in your own way. To not be yourself would mean to be someone else... and you are NOT that someone you are pretending to be. You are YOU. Nobody else is you. THAT is pretty awesome, if you ask me!
So, in this video, you will learn WHY it is so important to be yourself and WHY it is vitally important not to copy others. This applies to when you are building your mersona AND applies to everything else in life. This video will also give you some guidance on how to set yourself apart in the mermaid community and how not to look like a clone of someone else. Because let's face it... imitation isn't as flattering as they say. 😟

This makes me wanna make a mersona and draw them a bunch :O or just draw a bunch of mermaids and be unable to decide what I want as my mersona lmao
I have multiple fabric tails, so I have drawn multiple mersonas! You don't necessarily have to choose.
I hav been wanting a custom tail since I found the mermaid community many years ago as a freshman in high school. What I wanted as my signature look has changed many times since then. But I feel recently I've started building Lorayuh as a Fresh Water mermaid with slight forest fairy vibes. I want my next tail skin to have my classic swirly lines on it. Cuz I feel like those shapes are something i use a lot as an artist, nd add tht extra bit of fantasy to my otherwise basic fishy self. (Lots of greens nd golds with some other natural colors) Also working with the idea of "found objects" like she's a mer that finds (or maybe sometimes steals) things from humans she likes and finds ways to incorporate them into her outfit. (This will go into stuff like the belt I made recently, or what type of tops I choose to wear which im steering away from sea shells here of late bcuz again Fresh Water Mer) buuuut anyway getting a little carried away with describing my in progress mersona. 😅 Enjoying this series so far Phantom. Keep it up! 💜
My Mersona is quite dark. My colors are mostly blue and black (sometimes orange and black). Most people seem to think mermaids are supposed to be beautiful, light, and sparkly, but my Mersona style is a bit scary with dark colors, claws, and fangs (and hopefully soon scary contact lenses for dry events) Sailors beware!

I’m still searching for my mersona’s name. But I know he’s dark, siren style and hunting beautiful men ahaha. Oh and he’s a freshwater mer cause we don’t have a sea in Switzerland

You mersona is probably where I got my inspiration. Only mine incorporates the moon and ALOT more of a lavender color (and stingrays......all of the majestic sea flap flaps) Yay for goth sirens!

Do you know how freakin' jealous I am that you got to be in a parade AND entertain kids and festival-goers AND swim with your mer-sisters in the sea? And film the whole thing besides? It HAS been a great Monday, Phantom. As for Boyne City Pirate Fest 2020 - well, my wife and I are planning to attend a wedding in southern Ontario next summer, so you never know, there could be an opportunity for a side trip to Michigan :) I'll keep you posted!

I'm just now starting this series of videos, though I've known of you and your channel for a while. It's quite ironic the way I discovered you. I remember trying to create my mersona a while ago and I thought of "Phantom" and a few other things that might fit me. (But mine was inspired by the phantom of the opera, and more.) I wanted to make sure nobody else had the name because I didn't want to take that away from someone. So, I started searching and I first found you on pinterest and continued my search just in case. But, I still have ideas that I am pretty sure isn't taken. While I'm still a student, I'm not putting myself out there as a mermaid. After school, I plan to start mermaiding more.

Personally I'm inspired by Ariel from the cartoon and her theme colors aside from the traditional . Hint of flowers and pearls, occasional tiara my style would be something exotic , princess style.

My mersona is one I may never be able to be because I live in Iowa which is not the best place for mermaiding. Anyway my mersona is kind of mysterious and aloof and will not hesitate to get rid of attention to the point where people think he’s too much of an introvert to be normal which is why he sticks to darker depths of the water and underwater caves which turned his formerly bright blue and white tail to a more dark purple and black one. I really hope I haven’t just copied someone else’s mersona. I’m praying to Neptune and Poseidon.
