you can mount thin wood using a glue gun and aluminum soda can pop tops they are magnesium and just bend them and hot glue them on the back and you have a hook to hang your pics

Nice lesson! Can I ask what temperature setting you used on your iron when setting the glue? Thanks!

Thanks for adding this video, Jon. Can I ask why you didn't cut the canvas off like the paper? Does it have to do with looking more finished? I had no idea you could iron wood glue. Nice to know!

Hey...good info....do you put the encaustic medium right onto the canvas or do you put encaustic gesso..

Jon, Could you paint the panel with gesso or white instead of gluing canvas or paper?

you can't use regular gesso because it's water base. But if you mix regular gesso with calcium carbonate it makes a very nice pouruss surface for the encaustic to grab on. . Put a teaspoon of that powder with a bit less then half a cup of gesso. mix well and apply on your wood panel and and let dry and sand it down and you're ready to go. Have fun.

what paper exactly do you use? Will watercolor work? Can I use canvas on the board that already sold in stores?
Do you have a tutorial of actual painting in encaustic. I use to do encaustic with iron and now would like to so with wax sheets. I can't find any instructional video on YT :-(
Thanks so much for your videos.

He shows his paper at about 5:40" into the video - a bristols paper

I would glue with an acrylic gel medium rather than wood glue. I use Golden absorbent ground to "gesso" as well. Great videos though. I have learned something in your use of paint filters to strain out the rubbish that is in damar. Thanks

I love the idea of the watercolor ground as a substrate.. thank you, Carol
