D.I.Y. Butterfly Wing Tutorial!

Materials:
-Foam core (a craft board composed of a 1/4 layer of rigid foam laminated between two layers of thick paper.
-Colored paper
-Metal coat hangers
-Glue
-Battery powered El Wire lights
1. Design & Create a wing template you like
2. Cut the wing shape and (2) backpack pieces out of foamcore
3. Connect the wings to the backpack board by inserting the coat hanger rod into the center foam of the wings and glueing the remaining portion between backpack plates. Place duct tape along both sides of the seam between wing and backpack piece to ensure they stay together.
4. Find colorful/sparkly paper/paint and decorate the wings as you see fit. I use different strategies on each side of the wings in this video (and this video includes to separate sets of wings we’ve made.)
5. Cut a third backpack piece and create/attach duct tape backpack straps before gluing and taping it to the center support of the wings.
6. Cover back of backpack area with felt (optional)
7. Glue El wire lighting along the wings to create desired illumination
That’s it! I know this is a condensed explanation but the reality is once you have the foam core and connect it to the center portion with some backpack straps you can do whatever you want to decorate the wings and they’ll look great!
