Thanks for the video. I'm glad I visited Sihanoukville in 2007 when the tallest things in most places were trees although the land was already being divided up for construction projects. My fondest memory of Sihanoukville is sitting in a deck chair on Occheuteal beach, looking at the sea, and buying custom made woven name tag bracelets from the peddlars. That and my crazy moto driver who wanted more money at the end of three days. He was finally satisfied when I held my empty wallet upside down and shook it. Funny guy. Good times. There is now absolutely no reason for me to ever return to Sihanoukville. I hope the locals make a good living from the employment opportunities brought about by the development. More power to them.
You have to be joking, the place is a monstrosity, over building more casinos than you can count, huge Chinese criminals, local poverty, huge under the table brown bags of money to hun sen and his cronies, drugs can be freely bought on any street corner, prostitution, you want someone murdered, you will no trouble finding a hit man, before all this it was a very friendly laid back beach get away with restaurants right on the beach where you could cool your feet in the water while you ate your dinner, fireworks, paper lanterns floating out of sight at night, now hun sen is allowing his Chinese mates to start repeating the same thing all along the beach front as far as the Vietnam border, it’s a bloody disgrace, all in the name of dictator hun sen..
And...the locals might not be able to live in these... Just a facade, in South Korea during it's development of the 1960s, 70s, and 80s the government built affordable public housing, but I don't see it here. There's gotta be heavier industries to keep up with other countries. Overall, this is an equivalent of North Korea's facade villages. Wish Cambodia could have a similar strategy as Park Chung-hee's South Korea in the 60s, and so on.

The roads are nice and large. Quiet safe even for bikers. But 99% of those buildings shown in the clip are concrete ruins. No life, no businesses, no restaurants, no bars. Only chinese casinos all over the place and letters I could not read. I love Cambodia very much but the highlights of Sihanoukville are the friendly (cmbodian) people and the ferry to Koh Rong.
I don't see the beauty, I see a concrete jungle, with lots of unfinished and abandoned buildings. I don't recognise anything since I was last there in 2018. Incredible how you can trash a city so badly, so quickly.

Let's face it, it's a very big mistake for Cambodia. Cambodia has very little benefit from Sihanoukville. Employment by Chinese people is done by Chinese people, but there are jobs with low salary. It's dangerous for Chinese people to hire Cambodian people to do it. Other than that, China transports all Chinese people to work. Natural resources were destroyed. When the Chinese capital transported everything back to the country, there was almost nothing left. leaving only the failure to look differently
