Self custody is great for people who can manage wallets and have some technology background. Retirees, non-technical people, etc are better off going with spot ETF purchased in a tax advantaged account. A Roth IRA filled with spot Bitcoin ETF will be a really nice source of tax-free gains upon retirement.
I totally agree with what you said. Even for tech-savvy folks with a lot of bitcoins, ETF's can help with the diversification of one's custody of this asset and would make sense to use for retirement accounts.
The Bitcoin community owes this guy huge. Great educator and a great thinker. His explanations are why I was able to grasp the protocol enough to be confident in it
Totally agree but here in Canada the ETF's allow us to put bitcoin in our TFSA and RRSP accounts which can be hugely beneficial. Your point still stands and the "VR class" is 👌
Hehe, this was a nice one, I think the ETF’s are still better than USD or EUR, could be a first step. It’s probably also better than some exchanges, but unless you can take self custody later, you are locked in. So yah, it is more for institutional investing. The plebs better take steps towards self custody 😎
I don’t know if I agree. Self custody is too difficult for most people and not having exposure to bitcoin is very risky. So etf is great for regular people.
Well you could say no pain, no gain. In the early days of internet, browsers and other tech was to difficult, but a little bit of learning and its very easy. Self custody with a nano ledger....so so easy. I got noobs using them...just requires learning something new, which most don't want to do. You see, most people forgot about the last GFC, a big warning that you don't control your own funds. It will need another huge financial crisis for people to realise then they will finally get it. I'm not saying go all in on self custody but it's worth learning at least
Please read the first page of the white paper. Self custody is not at all hard for millennials and GenZ. Boomers can use ETF for price exposure - but that's not actual Bitcoin. Any Bitcoin that is not in self custody can eventually be confiscated by the state which defeats the whole point of Bitcoin.
Haha 😮 this is the best explanation I’ve ever heard, of what the imaginary fake instrument a ETF really is. ❤️👍 Glad to see you’re still the OG of crypto, mister. 👍😎
It matters why you buy BITCOIN and what you plan on using it for. If you trust centralized companies and governments than etf's are the perfect vehicle.
Don't know what the other classes there are but I doubt physical based ETFs are the worst. They all have pros and cons. Self custody bitcoin is on its way to become unaffordable premium class though if the price continues to go higher faster than the chain can scale..
You are the best bitcoin guy on UA-cam. But in this video I was hoping to hear some rational reasons for buying / not buying bitcoin ETFs. The VR analogy was funny, but not informative.
It’s probably better than buying bitcoin on an exchange and leaving it there until the exchange goes bankrupt and steals it from you. But self custody is obviously best.
for people who's money is tied up in a self-directed IRA... Bitcoin ETFs are an good way, perhaps, to gain exposure to the crypto market without taking a 10% tax hit for withdrawing money prior to being 59.5 years old.
@SuicidalBabyTTV Right, there is a lot of value in diversifying your custody, especially when you own a lot of crytpo. The ETF's can help a lot with this.
The "vr class"... love it
I'm glad i actually saw the video instead of just get infuriated by the title 🤣
There is nothing wrong with the title. How can a question infuriate you?

All Millenials and GenZ can manage a HWW.
I bought ETF in a TAX FREE account for living and spending. Sill have bags. It's called a Maximalist diversification

I was gonna say ETFs are raffle tickets, but Andreas KO'd me with the VR class. Epic 😂

love to hear you - classy like always! love it! greetings from zürich.
After all these years the masses still don't understand.... NOT YOUR KEYS NOT YOUR COINS!
Aloha from Hawaii! I heard your message on JRE back in 2015 and it changed my life. Bitcoin is hope and you are one of it's honest messengers.

ETFs defeat the purpose of having BTC. Thanks for the video.
the best short explanation ❤ thank you
I'm glad to see videos from you, Double AA
Wicked smart. Thank you 👍

I’m loving it! I get to put my IRA funds into BTC! So I can dollar cost average with money I didn’t think that I had. 😅

Great analogy. 😂 I’m glad people are buying them though.
VR class.... lol .... love it!
Momentum is EVERYTHING regardless of what class!
We need more people like Andrea!!
How about holding holding it on an exchange ? How does it compare in this cruise ship situation?
I'm digging the stashe Mr. A!
Great video!!!
You are amazing man.. ! 😂 I love watching these videos
Wow, facial hair! Looking good Andreas!
Before watching the video I thought Andreas was going to offer classes in VR.
brilliant analogy

Bitcoin ETF: "You’ll own nothing and be happy".
that was quick!
Careful VR headsets are getting good 😂
Don't know what the other classes there are but I doubt physical based ETFs are the worst.

Self custody bitcoin is on its way to become unaffordable premium class though if the price continues to go higher faster than the chain can scale..
But the appreciation is tax free in a Roth IRA
So this is just Andreas saying BTC ETFs are pure shit in the most polite way possible. I like it.

Hello. I love your content and have followed you since 2017. Somehow I got blocked on x and don’t know why
AMEN.
The best in the business was here in the early days
😂 Bravo
💯👏👏👏
ETF is perfect solution, if you want to donate btc for rich bankers! :)
two tickets to paradise song - eddie money 😂
Great Song
.. lol
LOL vr class XD so apt
lol the VR class 🤣🤣🤣🤣
how does this logic fit in with "the great taking",? ETF's will get gutted just like every other stock, security etc.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
😂😂😂😂 that's cool
😂😂❤
Self custody u own the asset, ETF’s r settled n cash and u don’t own any BTC at all, so self custody is 100% the right choice.

He double hockey sticks, NO.
ROTFL 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂 si si
and all this time I thought you had no humor!!!
Andrea’s does not mince words
HAAHAHAAHAHAAA.... ahem. Chortle.
🤣🤣🤣
AHHAHA
Wow.. VR is worse than by the boiler room ..
ETF are actually good for a lot of reasons, diversifying your security is one.
LOL, as opposed to another wallet hidden some where besides your primary domicile.
@@Take_The_RideI agree. The only place an ETF might be appealing is from a pension where you can’t get direct exposure. Or for non technical family.
@@Take_The_Ride Yes, if you are a multimillionaire or billionaire having a % in etf is reasonable, for security reasons.
@SuicidalBabyTTV Right, there is a lot of value in diversifying your custody, especially when you own a lot of crytpo. The ETF's can help a lot with this.
