    miss could you please tell me if this sounds ok/is correct?
    Outline and explain two ways society can be seen to have entered a post-modern age
    One way in which society can be seen to have moved into a postmodern age is through the process of globalisation causing mass change in society, particularly in the education and economy sectors. Globalisation is the growing interconnectedness of nations into a global village. This has meant that parts of society such as schools are now being compared on a global league table through PISA rankings, rather than just in the national leagues. Furthermore, globalisation has meant that we have moved from a fordist economy that was rife with manufacturing industries to a Post-Fordist economy that requires more specialist skills, such as IT skills, for individuals to compete in a global market. This demonstrates how the process of globalisation has led to massive changes in different parts of society, showing how we have entered a postmodern age.
    Another way in which society can be seen to have moved into a postmodern age is through the fact that there has been an increase in choice/diversity and a decline in metanarratives. Post-modernists suggest that the meta-narratives of structural theories such as Marxism and Functionalism are no longer relevant, as individuals now have more choice and free will over their lives in the modern era. This can be seen in the greater diversity of family life-s such as an increase in divorce rates, same-sex couples, and a fluidity in gender identities. Postmodernists Beck and Giddens argue that the decline in the nuclear family is due to the rise of individualisation- which has meant that people are more likely to prioritise their own happiness and fulfilment over set social standards. This has meant that the range of family types in a post-modern era is broad and diverse, people have the opportunity to cohabit or even, according to ‘personal life perspective theorists’, construct their own familial units from friends, colleagues and pets. This greater diversity would act as a sign that society has moved into a post-modern era.

      HI! Thank you for your message. They are referring to the same period of time. Modern OR Modernity is characterised by the industrial revolution.

      @@TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY i see. So it's the same as well with modernism? Who do you think are the philosophers of modernism?

    • @TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY
      @TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY  3 роки тому

      It depends in what context? A major philosopher would be Emmanuel Kant. However, the main sociologist thinkers that we would associate with modern society would be Durkheim or Marx.

      @@TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY yes i was thinking of Kant too. Probably im confused a little bit of how are enlightenment and modernism related? Is it because modernism happens because of the enlightenment?

    • @TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY
      @TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY  3 роки тому

      @@ginmartha4621 Yes, you would suggest the key ideas of a modern society is the enlightenment period. It was the age of rationality and reason, science becomes the dominant ways of thinking about the world.
