i love ur tank!! from a fellow black girl with fish tanks 😂 u have my dream cichlid i love the electric blue acara, i cant wait til i can get a big tank girl u did tht!!👌🏾💜💯
That FX filter cleaning is a pain I bet! Your tank looks lovely. I love seeing families with "wet pets" my mom also hated pets growing up. I'm glad you are enjoying the hobby😊❤
I've always loved aquariums. I use to be deep into the hobby. Bronze Corydoras are my favorite aquarium fish. My very first fish was a Bronze Corydoras named Whiskers. Happy aquarium keeping. 🐠
Wow really big beautiful tank I love that driftwood arch and the Acaras are nice too! Looking forward to seeing updates on this tank in the future. Thank you for sharing this awesome tank!
@@Lifewiththehoods I use it all the time currently I don’t have a big fish tank due to living but as soon as I move, I’m getting one, but I use it all the time. But they also sell it in sheets so you can cut it to size.
LOVE SEEING THE WHOLE FAMILY LOVING THE HOBBY! It was my first time using a driftwood and having a hard time getting rid of the tannins. It's taking a while now. Did you guys had that issue with your driftwood? If it did, how long did it take to go away. Thanks in advance!
@@jhedokings thank you! My boys are really getting into the hobby now which is helpful to incorporate family time and tank cleaning 😂. I did in fact had issues with the tannins. We had TONS of water changes quite often in the beginning. I can’t recall how long it took but I definitely remember it was a process. Don’t give up! But if you have smaller pieces I do recommend boiling them if you are not aware. For my other tanks it has worked in the past. 😊
@@Lifewiththehoods Got you. It’s been 3 weeks now and 3 water changes and still leaking tannins. Thank you so much for your time responding. Really appreciate it! I’ll continue to do water changes as necessary. Thanks again!
I'm a lazy keeper so I added Mexican oregano (a lot of herbs do well in water) to grow over my tank, their root system turns my tank into a jungle. It absorbs so much nitrates that it starves out the algae. It smells good and you can use it in your pantry. I think changing water too often when water is still within parameters in a planted tank is flushing away all the food your plants need to grow. I find shrimp entertaining to watch and cleans up whatever uneaten food the fish miss. Your plants might be getting too much light if you're using that one linked. You can try raising up your light an inch a week till you find a sweet spot where the plants are happier and the algae will struggle. I like a little algae myself, not a fan of sterile tanks, more life more better imo. I'm also cheap and don't like chemical additives, try my best not use them. You should try adding some organics and micro organisms from a local creek, they help form a better ecosystem. Fish like to snack on them too. Those faux piranhas are pretty sweet, I'm jealous how big of a tank you got and the aqua scaping. I'm also kind of lazy with that too lmao. Gave you a sub :)
Thank you for subscribing and for your comment! I have always wanted a shrimp tank. I find them truly fascinating. I have attempted it twice but wasn’t successful. Maybe 3rd times a charm? lol I do love a little algae myself it makes the aqua scape more realistic
Great vid, life takes a hold of us all sometimes and tank cleans take a back seat, good job you have a real good filter and those live plants. Fish look happy so I say your winning.
Great job. Surprised that all your plants are intact with the Buenos aires tetra. Those boys and girls loooove plants. Had to go with some plastic ☹️. Lobe them. Have tried different plants over the years. Most people have the same experience with them
@@Thisfunctionalfamily it’s really not as bad. We just went several months without taking care of it. But having live plants in there help keep it clean

Filter floss helps clean the water or Poly-Fil pillow stuffing you add to the filter. It Helps to polish the water.
