I am installing an 68 autostick ghia 1500 single port into a manual 69 beetle. What all do I need to change? flywheel/gland nut oil pump.....and not reuse the distributor since curve is different, but could use carb and intake if block off unused ports, correct? I can sell someone autostick parts I take off.
Hi Aj, have you watch our control valve video and engine removal/install videos? We cover the wiring in these videos. As for now, knee deep in bus projects, have the autostick up on a hoist covered in a tarp for next few months I would guess. Check out the other videos and let us know if you still have autostick wiring questions. Thanks Mike @ GT
Hello. I have a 1969 VW Autostick. The carburetor it had kept getting filled with white salt like stuff inside of it and would stall out on me so i got a Brazilian carburetor and it works great, but I feel like I'm still missing something. I dont see that (167) on it tho. Could it be that?
I have a 1970 UK 1500SP semi-auto. She has Solex 30-PICT-2 carb, 113 905 205 AC distributor which look up tables tell me are correct for the model & year. Need a replacement vacuum chamber, type 113 905 271 C. Can I use an alternative? She runs fine at the moment but only done short journeys since acquiring her (vacuum line to carb disconnected and blocked at distributor end.
Thanks for the video. But I wish you would spend a little more time in explaining those differences, like the vacuum hose in the manifold and the extra vacuum outlet in the carburetor. And for sure more images of those locations. I’m trying to put the original carburetor in my bug auto stick and I can’t find any detail video about those issues. Thanks for those videos about auto stick
Hey do you think that you can post a video about how to take seal out of oil pump? I looked all in my book and it don’t say. I sure would hate to destroy another :). Thanks
What would happen if you have an auto stick engine with the extra gears to pump the ATF fluid, but you bolt it to a four-speed transmission and leave that in active? Will you damage the gears being that it’s not pumping anything
Hey I have a question. I pulled my motor out if my 68 autostick to fix oil leak and replace leaky intake manifold. Put it back in. But I forgot to mark a few wires to reconnect everything. Now i have no spark. Could you help me with a wiring diagram? So i can get it to run? I really need some input here. I am stuck..... i am sure i am missing something.
Hi I wanted to ask if you could please assist me by showing me how to connect the carburetor to the electro valve, or where can I get a new carburetor for my 1974 super beetle autostick? Thanks dude!
I have an autistic that is running hot. I think it may be due to the distributor. At some point in the past, someone replaced the original distributor with a .009 pertronix setup. Could be a number of other things as well, but I have tried to chase down this overheating problem for a while now, and this is the first time I have seen specifics on what type of distributor is required, so now I am wondering. Do you have any insight?
Can you tell me if the oil pump housing and gears are the same as a manual? I ordered the gaskets and seals for the trans fluid part but I broke the housing when trying to remove it? Just wondering if I can just go pick up regular flat cam housing or do I have to search for a hole oil pump. Thanks
Brent Chastain Hi Brent, "the housing, intermediate plate and cover of the double pumps are matched set and if any part requires replacement entire assembly must be replaced", is what Volkswagen states. That being said, I have only used the original assembly so have never tried to replace the housing. They do appear to be the same, but I would most likely look for another assembly and keep some of the spare parts (ATF drive gear). Ours is now leaking so a rebuild will be a future episode for sure. Good luck.
Hi Brent, We can and and will, but it may be a while before we get to taking our engine out and apart. Unfortunatley only have the one pump in our autostick. Engine re-build scheduled for the fall. Thanks.
Where do I get parts for an autostick? Like seals and gaskets. Every site just sells parts for the standard shift it seems like. Is there an original book with part numbers and diagrams?
Davis Aviation Hi David, yes I would get the Bentley Manual, lots of good descriptions, diagrams and photos of autosticks. A few sources online include theSamba.com, www.eisparts.com, cip1.com, we are also considering getting into it ourselves as seems to be a real shortage out there. We will post a video letting evening know if we do. Thanks and don't forget to subscribe, we have a lot more autostick videos in the cue and planned.
Not that easily. You can buy some angle iron from the hard ware store and then drill two holes in on one side of the iron for your engine mounting bolts. Then use a johnson bar on the gland nut
This channel is going to help out a lot

Yes, that sounds about right to me. Good luck
thanks
My carburetor says 167 but no dash and no extra vaccum line. Where do I get a carburetor with the extras vacuum line?
Good content. I have a 72 auto stick beetle I'm putting back together. I didn't remove the engine and could have used more closeups.
Would you know the pn for the bushing in torqu converter. 72 vw type 1 auto stick
A Sportomatic has independent rear suspension according my information.
Not so much IRS (all beetles are IRS) as double arm.
Is there any way you can post a video of you wiring up the engine and auto stick? I am having a hard time figuring all this out after an engine swap.
Thank you!

thanks so much for the differences on what i would need.
I noticed you have a new distributor, I checked out eisparts, CIP1, evwparts. Where did you buy your autostick distributor? Thanks.
Did you ever find out, I also have an autostick

What city is your shop in?
Wow I hope I have all that. Apparently I'm going to need it!

I was told the can may be different. Thoughts?
So you have convert a manual transmission to an Autostick?

Distributar info very helpful, thanku for your knowledge
My auto stick goes in gear kinda hard is that normal

Can the autostick cruise at 75 mph on the highway? If not, can it be modified to do so without damaging the torque converter?
Yes
Top speed for the autostick is 78mph.

Why does spark timing need to be different just because they've added a torque converter and a servo for the clutch?
The different advance curve helps 'drivability'.
tell me please. how does one remove the drive plate on the automatic stick?
the same as you would the flywheel. the 30mm gland nut holds it on
Not that easily. You can buy some angle iron from the hard ware store and then drill two holes in on one side of the iron for your engine mounting bolts. Then use a johnson bar on the gland nut
Great info buddy...thx!
thank you very much for the info
good stuf bro
Oops, there's no such thing as "ATF fluid."
