Hello, just found your channel. I have used Microwave Rice Cookers for years and they make brilliant rice. I bought my first one at the Ideal Home Exhibition in Earls Court and spent an hour watching and talking with the demonstrators. They explained the 'Rules of Thumb' to learn how to produce perfect rice each time... So let me tell you how to make prep and cook the rice: MOST Dried White Rices (American long grain, Indian basmati and Nishiki (a very popular brand) Japanese etc). Wash and rinse well to remove excess starch, plus any 'grit' etc. - until water runs clear. By the way, I rinse it in the Microwave cooker under cold water (saves on a second pan etc.) Don't bother with a measure, this is when you use your 'Rule of Thumb' as a guide (the very best TIP I was given by the demonstrators): Put in enough COLD water to cover the 'level' rice and with the tip of your thumb touching the top of the rice, enough water to reach the 1st joint of your thumb (just pour more water in, stick in your thumb and pour excess out to meet the mark - no need to 'faff about' - as close as possible always seems to work)! Now put the grill and lid in place, stick in the Microwave on FULL POWER for 14 minutes - DONE. Use the paddle to stir the (VERY HOT) steaming rice. By the way, use the handle of the paddle (stirrer) in the 'paddle holder lugs' (on top of the grill part) and turn it to 'break the starch water bond holding the grill in place... I saw how you struggled and I was SCREAMING at the screen LOL!!! Be aware to ADD on cooking time for 'wild/black rice' or 'brown rice' and similar (test every 4/5 minutes). Hope this helps?
usually with steamer type devices rice is at a 1/1 ratio water-rice, but it is trial and error, lid does not weld shut, it has a clasp locking system. these microwave steamers are not supposed to be opened right away, but rather wait a few minutes, one for the food to cool a bit because of the way a microwave cooks/heats food, but also to be safe. in order to let the steam die down before opening the lid. not a 30 mins wait but 5 mins either whilst inside of the microwave with the door opened, or outside of the microwave. theyre definitely good but yeah definitely give the rice a bit of time before tucking in if cooking it this way. Great video and review
Both looking well, chaps👏👍! Whatta palaver, mate🤷♂️! Thing is, rice only takes 10 mins on the hob and if you boil the water in the kettle first, it won't cost any more to cook it. And it doesn't look particularly disability friendly, Nat?. Welcome back👋!
Thank you both of you. Very handy steamer. Great review. So glad you're much better . I've missed both of you . Please take care and stay safe sweets xx❤
Really good review. I got the Sistema microwave rice cooker a couple of weeks ago from Amazon. It was £7.33 at the time. The outer lid has clips to keep it secure but the inner lid sits loosely on the pot. So it doesn't have the problem you found. You're absolutely right about trial and error. I think it depends on your microwave and preferred rice. But when you do get it right, you can do it exactly the same way every time for perfect rice. I'm going to have to take a break from rice for a while :)
Yay, great to see you both back!!! I'd a microwave steamer thing, a lot like this one, years ago. Over the years bits if it went missing so a couple of years ago I got a new one (I think from Amazon) looked just like the Aldi one. I left it on the kitchen counter, and when I went to use it a spider had taken up residence inside it 😱 So I'm looking for a new microwave steamer again!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 They're very good for doing steamed veg 👍
Wahay great to see you Both back and looking back in top shape Nat & Keith 🙂 really missed you both, and i have to say that little Kitchen gadget looks well worth the money and another great review 👍 it's deffo a thumbs up from me

@@natssupermarketproductreviews I bought the same one from Aldi in Scotland and the are £2.29 in Aldi store in Scotland but mine came with a small instruction booklet inside, you should have got the booklet inside it, in the booklet it says microwave the rice for 14 minutes and that is for a 800/900W microwave and for brown rice it is 30 minutes.

Great review, Nat! My mrc has an inner pot with little feet that acts as a strainer. I'm not sure what the white bit in yours is meant to do. I don't bother washing my rice... Just weigh out 40 - 70g per person (according to appetite) and cover with boiling water to about ½ - ¾ inch above and cook for 9 minutes. I sometimes cook pasta in it too.
Hi val I know which ones u mean I was looking at them ones on amazon they look really good I was in to minds to buy one this one from aldi was cheep there good cause u can cook anything in them
Thought I had seen all of your videos.! This one came up on my feed..glad you did this one Natelie..im no good at boiling rice..saw this in Aldi's but wasn't sure to try it or not..but now I've seen your video i shall buy one.. thank you so much for sharing..love to you and Keith ❤xx
I have a slightly smaller one with a much easier inner lid to remove. With rice, it's usually equal amounts of water to rice, but you have to adjust the water for different types like basmatic rice then it's one and a half cups of water to one cup of rice. Very good investment mine was £4.99 from Studio catalogue years back.😊
Hi chrissy 🙂thank u for letting me know about the cups of water they are very handy to have as u can cook lots of stuff in them £4.99 isn't a bad price 🙂
I'm so glad ur both feeling much better. I love that rice cooker but I do struggle with my hands but it is so convenient to use. Great video u two. Much Love xx
Hey guy's so good to see you bk definitely worth it for convenience I've been thinking of buying a electric rice cooker as we eat rice two three times a week 🍚🍚
That's interesting, mate. They were like you say, then they seemed to have changed suppliers, and they started coming out sticky and claggy. I went back to Tilda, 'cos the same thing happened with Tesco's and Uncle Ben's at the same time, too. Same suppliers? Will give 'em another try. Elvis isn't dead, he works down our chip shop😉🤟✌️🙏.
What you reckon adding boiling water and a slice off lemon n some dried mushrooms ?...thanks guys imma order one online now as my Aldi is a trek away from me 👍

Aldi sell pouches of cooked rice ready in 3 minutes in the microwave for about 40p, enough for two average portions.Perfect every time
