Nostalgic, and partly because this is the music that played during the hours (days?) of waiting for the distributed download of the 1.0 beta to complete, heh.
I like the music and thats about it. Would be cool if they did something similar to ff11 where they went back in time and used this music for Gridania past.
Gridania! It looked very different indeed! Geographically and visually. The music was different. That Icon next to the character name was the Linkshell symbol, you could make it yourself. This was before Free Companies existed. Louisoix. 🥺 It still fells strange whenever I go back to that very same spot and his not there. It’s been years and years but I still miss him. 😭 Thank you for the nostalgia. ❤️
Sadly, technology at the time, with consoles at the time not having RAM and VRAM like we do today, couldn't support the fidelity and ability that you in today's game. Like, even the zoning outs, etc, while yeah that's a part of the ps3 stuff they were trying to implement From a pure game functionality point, you have to update the positions of every character at all times, as far as I know, this created the vastly EMPTY places in ffxiv, ARR, from what I can perceive, focused on player population and the ever-breathing life of the world, vs this more quieter/subdued look and feel to the game (more characters = less fps, since that's game time performance having to not only render said characters (depends on how they mask characters but if characters are rendered regardless, that's eaten up memory) and if not rendered characters, empty towns with player caps Graphics sell the game, sure But they don't make it
I like a lot of Uematsu's stuff in this, but I never got to experience it in context. Just listening to the music stand-alone, I like the 1.0 soundtrack more than ARR's, but ARR's Gridania music is definitely better.
that was the issue.... the game was TOO big, TOO empty.. and had tiny flower pots with the same graphical data as player characters.. (the shades on them were x.x) they were prolly some of the best looking assets in games... but it BOG DOWN THE GAME. you was lucky to run on high settings... much less ultimate... though we had HUGE zones.. lot of it was celled off so if you hit a "load line" between cells you would lose sight of mobs and people forward then behind you. If you was doing a levequest.. it could auto fail if you stepped over those lines. x.x also the black shoud was an empty maze .. not as wide open as is now.
Honestly, Nobuo's music was so much better than most of what we got in 2.0. I understand they wanted to separate the two, but some of that music should be re-used. 1.0 had a FAR superior soundtrack aside from a few moments.
+Evangeliman It's more so uematsu's attitude, he only likes to work on new projects and very rarely if ever does a remix or creates a new track for an old game.
I haven’t got the chance to play 1.0 but it seemed it was a little better all they had to do was keep the music, keep the animations, have different animations for each race, gender (jobs and classes) I would be fine w it. The map was ass apparently...
Seeing Stillglade Fane as an open space instead of a weird cave with a bunch of meditating dudes was unexpected. It feels like it was kind of pointlessly far, too.
Sure if your sound was off and you watched only the first 20 seconds of the video. The greater take away is that the music was pretty repetitive, it was one large zone with long corridors and there was very little variances differentiating the different sections. It was easy to get lost
+Ender Skies Except it's really not? I mean, you can be blinded by nostalgia and all, but outside of a few stray textures, 2.0 is fucking gorgeous compared to 1.0.
@Nob the Knave I guess you enjoy ugly games that copy and past everything over and over again omg so amazing walking past that same rock a 4th time. 1.0 was ugly as fuck.
+Henry Berrios sorry to hear that, the new ARR really is more of a halfway point between this and WOW. I personally feel that ARR made XIV more fun but i did enjoy 1.0 as well.
1.0 was shit and you know it. It looks horrible compared to ARR, it's boring, no bosses, dumb mechanics, unfinished, and just feels awful to play. Combat was slow, boring, and non exciting. In no way is ARR wowified either. The endgame offers serious challenge with very hard boss fights and great rewards for people who complete them. There's also plenty of content for more casual players to go through and thoroughly enjoy, and a robust crafting and gathering system for people to enjoy who are into that sort of thing. WoW shits out an expansion every year and expects people to pay 15 bucks a month for the next 11 months with no content being added till the next 50 dollar expansion. 1.0 was shit and you know it. ARR was far more financially successful and us generally seen as the current best mmo on the market while 1.0 was shat on by everyone and their mum because it sucked so hard.
+AlphaKnight708 final fantasy xiv 1.0 was trying to be like final fantasy 11. Anyone who played 11 and enjoyed it will say it had its issues, but it was overall a wonderful game. Final fantasy xiv 1.0.... It had good parts to it. It had that sense of danger when you traveled, the world felt huge, Graphics were amazing. It was just not executed properly. I myself played 1.0 until the end i can tell you there were a lot of players that felt very sad when they couldn't play their 1.0 game any more. By patch 1.23 it was getting to be a pretty good game. When a realm reborn came out....The world became smaller, the danger of exploration felt non existent, and it felt over all...a easier game. Go to point a to point b to point c. Too much hand holding. I dunno, call me old fashioned.. But I really miss the old ff11. Final fantasy xiv 1.0 was suppose to be that. A lot of people expected a realm reborn to go that direction but instead got something more simple, more wowified.
+Henry Berrios There was no danger running around the world in 1.0, don't really know what your talking about there. As for the smaller world, I believe that 2.0 is actually larger, just segmented into smaller zones. And just look at 1.0's towns. Take drybone even for instance: in 2.0 it's a bustling little settlement with a bar, hospital, weapon store, church, and various other buildings. 1.0's drybone was 4 tents in the middle of the desert. And the 1.0 dungeons... I'm not sure if I even want to talk about them. Boring, no challenge, in rewarding, and the mechanics used over and over again. And as for FFXIV being WoWified, I disagree with that. I think the term your looking for is different. We didn't need another FFXI, we already had one of those. What we needed was a game that was built for today's generation of MMO players, and that meant doing away with mmo's being menu navigation fights. We demanded more involved experiences with fun mechanics, and tons of fun action.
Hell no! The inertia applied was frustrating and was rather jarring. Especially when coupled with input lag and server lag... As a veteran player of FFXIV from the start of 1.0 right up til now (and beyond) I can say with confidence that movement wise, 2.0 > 1.0.
1.0 was superior in most respects except for the lack of content and a super laggy UI. Pretty sure it's only mainstream media that's so in love with ARR.
Actually the only ppl that are in love with 1.0 are the same ppl that loved ff11 and that's ppl that can't move on from the past. 1.0 had amazing music but everything else was set up to fail. The game was copy and paste everywhere you went and ugly. The gameplay was slow and old. In fact 1.0 was basically ff11 with some new paint but you can't have gameplay from 1999 in a 2010-2018 game and that's why 1.0 bombed boom
I'm sorry, but all of this just looks so bad. I was curious to how 1.0 looked and I kind of regret it. My opinion though. And the music is not that great either.
1.0 was a very different experience. It's hard to tell in this video, but the graphics were actually better in 1.0 - ARR downgraded the graphics but covered it up by turning up the contrast and lighting effects. Granted, it had to be done, there wasn't a choice there. There was simply no way 1.0 FFXIV was ever going to run on the PS3; even decent gaming PCs had trouble with it.
You also aren't really showing off Gridania in its prime. I think one of the problems with 1.0 was that the amazing graphical detail only really shone through during well-lit times of day, when the sunlight would glint of the thatched roofing, and the green bloom would come down through the trees, and the ground textures would appear more 3D. I hated the graphical downgrade in A Realm Reborn so much, I basically quit after two days because it depressed me so much, lol. I remember the first time I saw what they had done to Coerthas - a flat white terrain with no texture.
@@justus4justice Actually they are not better because everything in 1.0 was copy and pasted there was nothing to look at just the same rocks grass and small junk over and over again. 2.0 has so much more details everywhere you look
Horrible looking everything looked the same such a boring looking game. Really happy they fixed everything and trashed this nightmare. The only great part about this game was the music

Starting to listen to all the 1.0 main city themes just in case they get remixed for the new alliance raid final boss music.
Well good news for ya

umm you got it backwards, while this looks cool it was actually very clunky compared to now
