I’ve got a 3408 in my cabover KW in Australia. Works everyday. They are a good engine as long as you change the oil and coolant regularly and do a bearing roll every 6-7,000 hours. Subscribed and looking forward to the rebuild.

Everyday I see & hear Midway's Concrete 379 Peterbilt with the 3408. Work in Port Melbourne for Dyson's Transport an no matter all the noise on the Westgate when that 3408 Cat is pulling fully loaded in a mini B Double configuration it cuts through all the noise & boy you hear that Cat through all the noise & it sounds absolutely awesome. There is a Peterbilt 379 of a company here in Melbourne called Midway's Concrete hauling a mini B Double combination 7 axles plus the steer, 2 turntables carting concrete dust locally grossing 62 tons fully loaded. Where I work I hear it everyday & it has its own distict sound you cant help and smile & enjoy. Subscribe looking forward to the rebuild. Cheers Louis Kats 👍
@@muddycreekiron1487 Right - yours doesn't rattle - its probably due to injection pump timing...The further you advance the injection pump timing on a Cat, she starts to have a cackling rattling sound. Prematurely wears out the engine too. Too much advance.
The ol 3408 " Clatterpiller " as their called - factory 450 hp but have seen them turned up over 600 . Got same truck ( ol yeller ) with a 5 & 4 and 370 rears . Bought it back in 85 hauled s butt load of cows / hay . Retired now and only does parades and Sunday drives . Hard to find engine parts for these days . Will pass about ANYTHING BUT A DIESEL PUMP ..,
There is a fellow on youtube Badlands Bull hauler that has a sweet 359 with a ktta 19 that he still works. I hade the pleasure of him rolling up behind me on the hwy rollin coal.
THAT is a BABY DOLL! Like a Super Liner with an E-9. SWEET! Buddy just got a Diamond Reo with a 318 2-cycle, an air shift 5x4 and 10 ton running gear. And here I am and too geezerish to hop in anything. THANKS!

@@muddycreekiron1487 I herded a Pete with a 3406B and it was a BULL! Started with a 237 and ended up with R-models and 350 Macks and 12-speeds but drove a tri-axle Liner with an E-9 and a 12-speed. OH it was a thumping monster but I'm partial to all V-8's including Scanias which are kin to 3408's and E-9's, and 318's and 92 doble turbos. Looked at dog butts all my life off and on. Diesel in the veins..
@ I’m a mechanic for this company and when I started 38 years ago we were just starting to get Pete’s had a few 3406b’s but the new ones were 3406c’s but before that they were all Mack’s very similar to your story 237-300 300plus then the four valves now it’s disgusting what rolls in the door 😂👍

@@muddycreekiron1487My 3408 has got the Brakesaver. There’s a lot of O rings in the control housing and the big Brakesaver oil cooler but I wouldn’t say they are a problem, just got to replace them when you remove the oil pan when you do a bearing roll. Main thing is not to get the oil too hot, but there’s a seperate Brakesaver temp guage on the dash. Steering wheel attendants used to get them too hot. They were an O/O engine.
Before the BUY thing $$$, did You run a dino on it? All You just did or the company did id get there selfs in to a SHIT load of trouble. You can get the parts for this thing, maybe You get lucky to get some from Australia , USA is bare on parts. You say You got a Diamond in a ruff .....WTF were You thinking, do this truck looks like the one from the Truck Shows? Do You know to get it in to Show shape the company would have to spent a million+ dollars easy.Please check the oil level....not in the CAT engine but in Your head.- its low and Im just guessing. TH
@@krystiansieminski8060 well I’m not sure what your problem is but I would never get on here and trash someone’s ideas and there’s a lot of sweet old trucks out there restored that never got close to a million dollars as for the work I’ve rebuilt numerous 3408 cats and as far as parts if it’s not available we make them we’re also restoring a 63 Pete needle nose and we’re finding and making parts so that’s not a concern so I guess the old saying is if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all 👍

neighbor of mine had a truck very much like this, also had a 3408 cat. he dumped that thing because the motor ate all the profits.

Not positive but I’m guessing it had another fuel filter there a lot of Pete’s had a secondary filter on the frame 👍

I never was involved with a brake saver but I’ve heard they did a lot of leaking
