The Earliest Depiction of Jesus: 5 Most Mysterious Artifacts Discovered in Ancient Shipwrecks

- In December 2021, archaeologists made a remarkable discovery on the seabed. Amidst a trove of ancient Roman coins, they found an item that initially appeared unremarkable -- just one among many treasures.
However, closer inspection revealed that this gold ring features the image of a mysterious figure that could be one of the most significant and influential pieces of iconography historians have ever laid eyes on.
The Israel Antiquities Authority led an underwater expedition off Israel's Mediterranean Coast to explore the wrecks of two ancient ships. Situated near the former port of Caesarea, the hulls of these ships had broken open, spilling their contents across the seabed in relatively shallow waters, just 13 feet deep.
Amongst the many treasures uncovered were hundreds of silver and bronze coins from the third century, as well as a large number of silver coins from a later period. Figurines in the shape of eagles and small statues depicting theater performers were also found, along with jewels, bronze bells, and a red gemstone adorned with the image of a lyre, an instrument central to both Greek and Jewish religious history.
Among these artifacts, the most priceless has become known as the 'Good Shepherd' Ring. This term, used by Christ to refer to himself in the Bible, was given to the ring due to the image carved into the gold-set green gemstone. It depicts a young boy with a sheep or ram perched on his shoulders.
If the image is indeed one of Jesus Christ, it would constitute one of the earliest images of him in existence, and its owner would likely have been one of the very first Christian followers...

Nothing is quite so frustrating as watching a list show like this and realizing that none or maybe just one of the images are of the item being discussed, or worse they are all AI generated and have nothing at all to do with the topic.

It would seem easy enough to send divers down 13 feet to salvage the wrecks back after it happened. The storm must have been a very bad one. How do we know it wasn't sunk in a violent clash?
If I was the owner back then, I would have got divers to get my gold. There was something else taking place when they sunk. Thus, the real mystery.

Nobody, at least nobody who has any intelligence, is "baffled" by the Antikythera mechanism. We know what it did, and how it did it. We know how it was made. An old bloke created a fully working exact replica of the damn thing decades ago in his shed. There is a well known UA-camr currently making a working replica using only tools and techniques that were available at the time when the original was made - he's not a scientist, archeologist or historian, just a bloke who makes videos about machining and making. Clearly these things could be made by the people of that time - it's a thing that exists. It's interesting, fascinating even. Truly magnificent and wonderful, but there's nothing baffling or mysterious about it.
Which UA-camr? Definitely would like to see that. I love how, if something is ever discovered, if they can't work out how they made it, they must of been an advanced civilization. Where they? Or was it more without modern ways of doing things, like power tools, heavy equipment ect, they just had different ways of doing without it. Just knowledge lost of the years and forgotten because, well basically, why do it the old way when new and possibly easier ways were created.

@@anthonybaransky137 why is it surprising that a people capable of great monumental masterpieces, great philosophy, poetry and scientific discovery (etc etc) could look up at the sky and record what they saw, and later embody the heavenly movements within a mechanical device? I mean, its not like nobody had ever looked at the stars before, people have been doing it for thousands of years, well before the Greeks even existed.

The image of a shepherd holding a lamb over his shoulder is considerably older tham Christianity. Like many things ot was appropriated by cultures as it is something the could understand. This is why we have the image of Jesus having long hair, a beard and wearing robes. It was an image that Greco-Roman culture was familiar with.
Regarding the Shepherd Ring, it doesn't much matter if the "experts" believe it was Christian or not -- it is still a prophecy. Stones thousands of years of age portray this time we are in. Aquarius between Jupiter at Aries and Saturn near Capricorn. Of particular interest to the ancients for this time were objects approaching the new 1st of Aries and the Milky Way. In other words, we have reached the age of the Grand Cross. The whole point of many of the world's prophecies, Christian and otherwise.

All people and races say they were taught by people that came from the sea after that. So survivors of a more advanced Civ. Not that they had tech like we do, but they had the knowledge to put a star map to date the time on ruins in Gobleki Tempe. That actually dates it. We do that now with things we want to preserve forever to make sure that all future people can know the exact star date. So yes what they found was inferior metal.

The "Shepherd's Ring" is probably a Merchant's Union ring, a possible licence/passport to transport goods and to sell goods in that region/regions. Looks a little pre-"Christian"/Roman Catholic to me. Somewhere to the east, Kubla Khan or Genghis Khan(?) used to give out a golden passport to various people as permission to travel past checkpoints and borders, that ring could be a western version of that passport for a diffferent culture and people and era.

With the antikythera device, they found the name plate with the name and maker and the start date of the device. I have found the ancient fire stone from Atlantis, able to alter matter, by itself, I made it, then later, seen a story about the philosopher's stone on UA-cam and the description of a other stone technology from Atlantis called the fire stone matched the material I made. Actually, it does look Christian. The earliest depictions of Jesus make him look like a Roman youth without a beard, because the earliest Christians didn't know what he looked like.
It was not until the fourth or fifth century when the Mandylion of Odessa began being displayed - what was almost certainly the Shroud of Turin folded up, so that only the face was on display - that iconography of Christ changed. From that point onward, we began seeing portraits of Christ with the beard and the appearance that we think of today. The depictions suddenly changed after this miraculous Mandylion cloth image emerged for public veneration. Before that, Christian art was not publicly displayed due to persecutions, and the Christians most treasured relics were secretly guarded.
