Did security there for a couple years back in the early 90's. The drug store on the corner was Belles Drugs. Used to walk the lady there every morning to that bank deposit you showed. The entire parking lot was repaved at the time. I have a vhs tape here somewhere of the car that went through the windows into H&H Jewelry. Sgt. Taylor with GPD, had a tuxedo store down by the bus stop doors. My friends there was the maintenance guys. Dave, Frank, Bill all have passed on. Big Mike was a trip, hell of a nice guy. Chris was the quiet guy. Was there when the Nigerian king and Queen came there. Was like the Eddy Murphy movie, coming to America. They had a good size entourag with them. Alot of good memories there.

Use to go there often. Also did some Security patrol work there too. (92-95). Was still very busy shopping area. I recall the area before they enclosed it. Was open to weather in 70's. Kroger, Tittles, Kreskeys, Penny's, Mont Wards, 3 Sisters. Chuck Wheelers.sad all gone now.

Hi Storm - I hope you know that your videos are very appreciated. The memories they bring back are awesome. Many of us have moved away from Gary, however growing up in Gary was a good time. I was at Village a lot, I can remember walking to the village with my mother often. I think the best part at that time was going to the diner that was located in Kresge's and of course the Hotdog stand. This is were my parents would take us for school clothes, or appliances from Montgomery Wards or anything else that was needed. I lived on 37th and Pierce, across the street from Webster School. (I saw your Webster video). My first job was a paper route (Gary Tribune), my route was on Pierce between Ridge Rd ad 35th Ave. In Jr High (Bailly) I worked at The Varsity Shop (jean Store) across Grant St from the Village (next to Riss).
From some of the things you say in some of your videos I'm thinking we are about the same age. Could be a chance we went at school together.. I'm from the class of 82- I went on a road trip shortly out of high school, Stopped to camp and fish a few days in Minnesota and never left. Keep posting your work. I'll keep looking for new stuff. Some of it is sad that things got that hard, but it wasn't always like that.

I truly enjoyed reading your comment and I want you to know is so much appreciated especially you taking the time to share these memories. We have the same ones in Gary Indiana. There were so many good times. Growing up around so many strong, hard-working people and the diversity and its self made us all very unique people I believe, it truly makes me feel appreciated when I know somebody is speaking from the heart like you did in this comment. I am going to put it to the video for everyone else to enjoy as much as I did. Thank you so much for your appreciation. God bless you and watch for new stuff coming soon Because I’ve always said without good people like yourself sharing these memories and comments. Let me know that I am not alone with my memories of growing up and Gary,Indiana.

Wow, what a nice building in such great shape but no customers to be had. Sad. That poor hot dog vendor has to be suffering to from lack of business with all the stores that are closed. I feel really sorry for him. We don't realize until we see something like this the domino effect that closing one store can have on the others. That's the way it is in everything we do really. If your good to someone it could make their whole day so much better, and they will pass that happiness that you gave them on to another person that they come across. Unfortunately, it works the opposite way too. All it can take is one unhappy person to make a good day for us bad. So, we need to be careful what we project to others if we want to make the world a better place. It all starts with us. I hope that hot dog vender can withstand the storm (no pun intended). Wishing for him a world of wealth to be right around the corner 🏩🌭

Double the size of this place and you'd have Northridge Mall in Milwaukee which has now been abandoned for 20 years partially burned up and surrounded by fencing. When I drove bus you got standing loads from 2 to 5PM with crowds going home. One thing I'll always remember where the loud teenagers that also left behind umpteen wrappers and hangers from shoplifted items. There also was a skating Palace within two blocks that brought out many fighting fools. The worst part the mall had a poor food court with no decent hot dogs
