About the brush pile that you have. I know this would take sometime but cut it up and bundle it and sell it for firewood. and also I am buying a branch from CSX that is 5 miles long and so I'm watching your channel to see some of the process that I will be doing here in the future.

Get some Tordon on all of those stumps (or pull them) or the whole thing will grow right back, but thicker. I learned that the hard way 😊 - most hardwood trees resprout from the stump, and will create a new tree with 6-8 trunks - a real mess 🥴

If you want to be absolutely sure on the drainage. Contact the USGS for a topographical terrain map. It does not cost a lot of money and it should have your railroad tracks on the map already as a terrain feature. The map will also help you with the terrain profile along the line which could come in handy later. You can buy a topographical map for less than $100 usually.

Find a herbicide applicator with a hi rail spray rig. Hit that ROW with a bare ground application to clear vegetation from your ballast. Spray out to the back side of your drainage with a broad leaf herbicide (Tordon) to keep brush down. Your state department of agriculture would be a good consulting source for contractors licensed in your area.

Gentlemen, If you were able to get a skid steer with a flat bucket, you could increase your clean-up time along the rails. They have several additional attachments including a grapple hook or grapple bucket, both could be used to pickup all of the brush. Depending on what size you were able to get, the 750-850 series have several attachment/implements that would increase your speed and get things completed a lot faster.
If you were able to get a Vermeer AX-19 chipper, you can literally feed 24 inch trees through it and it would make short work of your brush pile. I have spent years operating all types of equipment and a skid steer is one of the best all around pieces of equipment any person would need.
I realize your on a budget, just trying to suggest things that may increase your ability to cars on the tracks.

I was just looking at your channels section and was disappointed that delay in block nor jawtooth were included(there are a bunch of great rail channels those are just a few you mentioned). You guys are doing great I have really enjoyed your video's and you are getting better at everything from the camera work to your editing. I am new to the channel I just stumbled across you guys a few days ago and watched all your video's straight through( i believe that's called binge-watching lol ) I will be looking forward to more video's in the future and thank you for taking us along with you on your adventure.

Old motor oil, diesel, and a old tire or two, plus a match. Goodbye brush!

Dont chip the brush up, you’ll still have a mess of chips to deal with. Cut it up to 24” long pieces, bundle it with shrink wrap in 15 to 20 pound bundles and sale it has camp fire wood. Say $7.50 a bundle. Talk to outdoor stores, gas stations, feed stores that are near camping areas near you. They”ll probably let you put a few bundles outside their doors. You can print out on your computer a sign to put under the shrink wrap. You lose the brush pile and make a couple of dollars. Yes its work and time consuming, but a good way to get rid of it.

Re. "Why didn't you dig that by hand?"
I've dug clay like that with a pickaxe on an English steam railway - and when the pick hits clay like that, it's worse than hitting reinforced concrete. You feel the shock from the tops of your arms all the way down your back!
