I ordered the Military 2 at the beginning of this year, and I finally received it about a month ago. I wanted a full size Spyderco knife that has the classic Spyderco blade shape and thumb hole, but with the newer compression lock, so The Military 2 was the obvious choice for me. The reason I prefer the compression lock over a liner lock is easier and safer one handed closing, and better strength for self defense situations.

I find the Spyderco “Millie” is a perfect fit in the back pocket. I keep my wallet in my front pocket with a SAK. Mine is an old school gen 1 90’s model. Still a great carry and Amazon box assassin 🗡️🗡️🗡️
A long overdue upgrade indeed! I still sometimes carry my Military, it rides next to my S&W J-Frame .357 because I'm one of those weirdos who carry's multiple things in their pockets. I remember watching your OG Endura video, many years ago. You've came a long way & I truly enjoy your sarcasm & dry humor. This video came as a surprise to me, since this genius dropped his phone in sink whilst doing dishes. Perhaps too much brown liquor? Hopefully the new one will be here next week! Congrats on the new stump. Also, I twas the 500th like.
I think overall it's a good step forward. Definitely prefer compression over liner, as it's just nicer to open and close. And yeah, the fidget factor also helps. I definitely feel that's something more people want these days. And yeah, the rest is just... usual Spyderco. Solidly built, no frills, you know what you're getting. I'll definitely pick one up eventually.
I never had a Military, but I love the pm2 , have a few dozen but really love the Military 2.😊 It’s just like a pm2 just bigger…..kinda. The stretch 2 k390 is almost like a lockback pm2 and also love the seki city k390 line. Just my 2 cents ✌🏼
Heck ya brother. you just nailed it with the sprint/exclusive collectors. I've made it my life's purpose to accumulate an Manix 2 in one of every blade steel option they release, which absolutely looks like I'm going for the knife clone rainbow.
Thanks for this. Never owned the Military but I do have a Paramilitary 2 in s110v. Not because i like the steel because i love blurple! I too will wait for a blurple version of the military 2 as well. Cause better color than black

I have been collecting and using Spyderco knives for 4 years now,and I love the pm2 and a bunch of models. I’m guilty of steel chasing and sprint run/exclusives also. But now I have a huge collection and usually carry a military 2 and a native 5 lightweight serrated Magnacut. Great edc knives.👍🏻
They could’ve kept the original with an updated scale setup so as to permit tip up or down carry but I do like the new one. I’ve gotten aftermarket scales made for the original, tip up carry and love it.
I just bought 4 of them. Elmax, A-2, Z-tuff, S90V, 80CrV2. Sandwich steel. They always want to talk about "steel this" and "heat treat that." They don't want to talk about how scalability and blade geometry affect the un-scientific gorilla tests.
I was born tip down, and except for certain 30 minute spells (or thereabouts), I still am a tip down man. I am happy that way. Since I own 11 Spyderco's, I kinda feel qualified to criticize here and there. They've screwed up one of the only Spydies that I sort of liked, with exactly all the relevant features. Honestly, for me, the only Spydies I actually really treasure, were all designed by collaborators. Such as the Spydiechef. And the other one I dream about, but cannot have - the K2. Every time Sal Glesser says "we design for the hand, not the eye" I throw up in my mouth a little bit... Nice stump, BTW.
Very odd that S45VN didn’t make the transition from the now-standard PM2 configuration. I guess the upside is Spyderco has long experience with it, and their version of any given steel is likely to be amongst, if not the best, rendition.
That’s an absolutely outstanding review of it… I liked the military as it was… but I’m not hating on a compression lock.. I wouldn’t sell my old one to get a new one.. but if I didn’t own one maybe I’d buy it compression lock.. pm2 is my Jam!
This is the best review I’ve ever watched. Your remarks about the “community” are so accurate it hurts. I loved this review. Thank you for a good review and a good laugh.
The 52100 ball bearing steel, peel ply carbon fiber Military's were a Knifeworks exclusive. I got the PM2 in the same configuration from them years ago. I definitely prefer the S30V in camo G10. Way easier to sharpen and doesn't rust like a 87 Chevy
Waiting fir my new one to show in the mail. I hope i like it. Didnt mention the compression lock bite. Sometimes it bites the inside of the index finger. We'll find out. My first endura was 31 years ago....at the time there was no other fully synthetic handle, tactical folder, and I used mine to save my life......twice.....so i never leave home without it.
The Military is cool but it’s just not different enough from the Para/PM to justify the price. I got a Resilience which is the same size but cheap enough to justify. I just don’t need another PM2.
Funny, I still have my first Spyderco as well, the Gen 1 Endura, then moved up to the Gen 2 SS Endura because... wait for it.... the integral Zytel pocket clip snapped off, and the fixed was going to take to long! But then my longest use / lasting was the Police model in full Spyderedge! KB you slay me 😂 I love Spyderco as the best in folders (in general not like customs that cost what you make in a week) I wish they would put blue liners on those g10 scales because it would look 🔥 or green, orange etc.
My most recent PM2 has the wonkiest compression lock I have ever had but its the Cutlery Shoppe XHP coated wharncliff blade, with the orange G10 (this is not a bit sadly). I love it so very much anyway. Its the perfect PM2/Military for me.
The PM 2 in S110V was my first Spyderco. I love it. I also have a Para 3 with Maxamet. I love it too. Weirdly though I have been gravitating towards back lock knives. Maybe I’m getting old and clumsy and finding the compression lock too small and fiddley. More likely it’s because I have found a back lock is much easier to operate one handed wearing gloves. I even got a UKPK drop point with BD1N just because of the Slip It combined with Spydie hole are ideal for gloved manipulation. Recently I got the Native 5 Salt because of Magnacut and the backlock. All of those are Golden Co models which I also like. I have been considering a Japanese Spyderco the stretch in K390 for the same reasons stated above. All this is to say, I will miss the back lock. Great video and humor. Much appreciated.

Having a 10” knife on you makes you feel like anything you need too cut doesn’t have a chance 😅the Native chief is a killer knife also. And the Military 2 won’t leave my pocket ever since I got it in July. Fantastic 👍🏻
Fun modding fact about the OG military: if you sand away some of the G10 at the tip where the finger choil starts, you can turn the military into a front flipper. I did it on mine and it works pretty well with no major changes.
the liner lock is easier to use, its more comfy, and the blade doesn't rebound when you try to swing it shut. However the new one is perfect too. I have not needed to rely on lock strength since I have my original Endura 4 from 2010 which has not wore down the lock at all and it has no play
Just a heads up.. The deep pocket titanium clips are not likely to carry well on the new Military. The knife will swing back and forth in the pocket. Great video. Thanks again!
