i am CRAZYYY about notion, i love mine so much, my whole life is there and i get very organized and is very aesthetic pleasing but is crazy how can i get my finances, routines, schedules, reading list, goals, uni.. literally everything is there
I'm so glad you are upfront that there is a learning curve. Definitely took me awhile to figure out just the basics and I still struggle to do things in Notion that I think it is made to do.
Yes! I have wanted to try notion for so long, but I haven’t found a beginner show me how to use it, only people that zoom through it and I get lost. I would love to see a budgeting tracker/dashboard! Also yes, I have a word of the year - mine is “intent”. I also love using morning pages. It is a spot to just type out your thoughts and feelings. I use mine for some thoughts and to describe what I did that day. You can give yourself a goal of how many words to write. I really enjoy it!
Keep the Notion content coming please and the more detail the better. Started trying Notion quite some time ago but quit due to frustration of setting up. Love the ideas you have presented in this video!
YESSS to all the Notion content! I've been using it for over a year and love it. Last year I perfected my content calendar in there. I also started a Zettelkasten in there where I can store all my notes. I learned about it from the book "How To Take Smart Notes". HIGHLY recommend for notes nerds. 🤓
I discovered Notion maybe two years ago but have not been using it that much lately. Last year, I went from being a student to working so most of my boards did not feel relevant anymore. This video really inspired me to create a new set of boards that fit my current lifestyle! Honestly, I remember wanting to see Notion content from you back when I used it more regularly and I'm so excited to see what you will come up with now! Please keep sharing!
I LOVE using Notion, it is SO powerful when you have it set up right for you. On the other hand, setting it up can take a lot of time, and if you’re into planning systems it can be a time suck just playing around with it and finding what you like. For me, what really stepped up the game for me was learning about the PPV system by August Bradley. Also learning how to use relations between databases. Now my goals are all related to my to do list (the broken down goals appear directly in my daily calendar) and my habit tracker is right there when I create a new monthly review (which I have my own template for) etc etc. It’s like the best elements from my bujo days but it’s all there in 0.2 seconds
Our word of the year is the same! I chose "explore" as my word/theme because I want to break out a bit of my tendency to just stay at home and do the same thing every day. I'm about to move out of a city I've lived in for 5 years and haven't done much in (to be fair, pandemic), it's time to go do new things! I'm so glad you made this video--I went into my very neglected Notion the other day and was overwhelmed since it doesn't work for my life right now. I'm inspired to go in and give it a much needed overhaul. I put a hold on "Building a Second Brain" when you mentioned it a couple weeks ago, looking forward to reading it and hearing more of your thoughts on it! Cheers to 2023!
I tried Notion last year and tbh I've drifted away from it and am now back to analog planning with a Clever Fox planner for 2023 (I used to do a traditional bujo before notion). I honestly found that notion was a big time suck and was overwhelming me with the amount of time needed to organize the info the way I wanted. It was aesthetic though! I would also say a major issue for me was struggling to make it feel seamless with my school/work tasks, and your job probably lends itself to that better. I hope you continue to enjoy notion!
I have never heard of this and as a Virgo, this is SO me!!! At the beginning of this year, I’m focusing on finding new routines while embracing flexibility, but after I have some of that down, this sounds like an AMAZING tool! Thank you so much for this, since I really look up to a lot of what you say for advice and ideas in my life. I’ve been watching you since high school and I’m now post-college and you’ve always felt like a big sister to me:)
Speaking of Tiago Forte, watching his recent interview with Ryder Carroll and how he combines his bullet journal with digital apps, really brought some clarity in how I use digital apps alongside my bullet journal for mental clarity. It helped me feel ok to still need that daily practice of writing down my thoughts; while also running my life digitally, especially my digital collections, tracking and planning. Your Notion so far looks really beautiful, love to see your excitement.
Notion was really overwhelming to me. My ADHD brain has a hard time with such a blank canvas with neverending possibilities haha. I currently am still working on a goodnotes planner writing in everything. Eventually maybe I can combine the two. Notion definitely has things I could benefit from with my terrible memory and too many things going on in my head issues, I just need to actually spend the time learning it. Although, I think at one point I strayed away from wanting to spend the time learning it because I heard someone say there are so many more beneficial apps that more efficiently do the things that people are trying to force notion to be, so I tried to go that route as well...my problem there is remembering to use each of the apps. :/ I'm actually having a lot of success with my own version of that Indigo productivity planner you had on here a couple of months ago versus trying to use a digital pomodoro timer. I just time myself on my apple watch.
I just stared using Notion, too. I have overall 2023 Goals, but I have things organized by month with all the goals, bdays, quotes, monthly mood boards, shows to watch/watched, etc. in each month.
Thank you for sharing this! I want to start using Notion as well, having seen others here using it. However many vids I have seen, they are long-time users. It is great that you are sharing your early navigation with the tool. Please do share your progress for us.
I used Notion for about 2 years. I enjoyed it when I was using it, but then I just needed something a little more simplified. That being said, I loved that I was able to create spaces for work and personal stuff. It helped me to stay organized when I needed it and it was super customizable. I ended up switching out of Notion and now use a digital planner called Artful Agenda.
What I absolutely love about Notion is using it to track my physical TBR list! There I can easily see which books I have and how much I haven't read yet. I do that in the table setting 🤓
I decided a few years ago to digitize my entire library. It was quite the endeavour, but I now have a digital space with all the books I own! In my database I have space for the title, author, format (hard copy/ebook/audiobook), status, genre, season (if there’s a particular season that matches the vibes), the rating, how many pages and lastly the date I started and finished reading each book. And it’s great because when I finish reading it, I can go into each title and make notes or write a review etc. It is by far my favourite page in Notion 🤓
Omg, I am so excited that you are planning on making freebies quarterly for the newsletter. I actually love the Monday morning news letters - I start my week with them and they always make me feel great. I've tried Notion but not put enough time to really get into it. I also decided that it's okay for me to shift away from bullet journaling this year - I've been using it as more of a diary anyway and being a PhD student I need a digital planner that is flexible because my schedule is never as planned - things are constantly changing. I'd LOVE a budgeting notion template - I'm really not loving the excel spreadsheet I've made for myself. I am looking forward to making my own reading tracker for my next comprehensive exam because I used excel for my first one (PhD student thing) and I think Notion would be the best option for me going forward - especially when you showed the additional notes thing that opens. So excited for future content!!
My word of the year is in the same spectrum as yours. It's 'adventure'. As an introverted person, it's easy to fall into the same routines and patterns of a quiet life. I want to challenge myself with adventures this year.
Funny timing because I just set up Notion for work this week. I’ve tried it several times and didn’t really know where to go with it, but then I followed Ali Abdaal’s Skillshare class and it was really enlightening to get to know all the functionality. (Most of which you covered here too!) Now I know the building blocks it’s working so well for me! I don’t know why I kept trying to use pen and paper for work - it doesn’t make sense with the kind of work I do and the rate at which things chop and change. For personal, though, I’m keeping my paper bullet journal which is basically a planner and a separate journal.
I'm an actor and I keep intense track of all my auditions on Notion templates that my partner made for me! I also track my self employment finances and tax write-offs. I also love having digital monthly overview pages where I have boxes for goals, to-dos, and monthly reflections in a very aesthetically pleasing way!
I created an account last week and after my exams i'll deep dive into notion eheh i'll use it for some long term collections that I would put in a bullet journal and to organize personal and work life. loved your video
I just started using Notion last week. It’s so cool & I’m thrilled with it’s the possibilities of having only one place to look for my life/ work goals, projects, and tasks. Please make more content about how you’re structuring yours. Thank you!
I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts on digital tools and privacy, as well as back-up. Companies fail, so how would you address the possibility of losing everything?
Love this video! Would love to see you use this tool more in the future and for budgeting and goal setting. Also a vision board video would be welcome as I find myself sometimes struggling to organize ideas to include and it helps to see what others have chosen to include. My word of the year is health. Hopefully this year will be a good one.
Thank you for sharing your 2023 Notion planner! It is inspiring and I would love to see more content about your Notion journey this year. I recently started to use Notion and couldn't agree with you more that though there is a sharp learning curve, it is so helpful once you are comfortable with it. I also use Notion's database to keep track of birthdays and one thing I like a lot is that one can add a "Date" column, and Notion allows you to set reminders for these dates. In this case, I will not forget to text/call that person on their birthday.
After some reflection, I also quit bullet journaling and came to the conclusion that I needed a digital version of the bujo system and landed on notion. I literally just finished doing some setup for my upcoming semester in notion before watching this video. I’m excited to see if this works for me! I personally felt like the bujo system works well for me but I needed something portable and more automatic than a bujo for my current lifestyle. I’m going to continue journaling and brainstorming in my bujo because I do that better on paper, but I think the planning aspects have to be digital for me.
I love Notion content! I've using Notion for a couple years now, but it definitely took me a while to get it to where I needed. I started using it for note taking when I was finishing grad school, but I never quite got my templates working the best. But in the past 6 months, I've definitely been building it up. I've got a recipe manager, an extremely basic book tracker, and I'm working on my own "second brain" that's mostly been focused on notes from nonfiction books and online articles that I don't want to lose track of. But this year I plan on building up my databases for some travel-related info as well as some other life management stuff.
I keep birthdays in a Google calendar I call "Birthdays and Anniversaries" that I share with my partner. They're all day events on an annual repeat and they have notifications two weeks out so I have time to pick a gift (and time to ship it). I also edit the notes section of the event throughout the year by writing gift ideas or their favourite things.
I use notion for planning my teaching lessons. I have a tab for each day and I write each student's name and the time they have the class, and the activities for each session. It's worked great :)
Yay freebies for 2023!!! 🥳 I'm still getting used to Notion, because I really love the analog part of planning... The paper, the pens, washi tape...everything! Let's see if I can find the right balance between analog and digital... Anyway, you should definitely check out Jules Acree here on UA-cam for some Notion goodness. Bom ano!!! 😘
Cool!! This is my first time seeing notion in action. I’ve been bullet journaling since 2016(?), but since having my baby girl in 2021 I haven’t been able to keep up with it. This year, I’m trying the Christian Planner. So far I’m really liking it!
I have been looking forward to your Notion video since you teased it in the Bullet Journal video! I started using Notion a little over a year ago, I think. Like you, I love the customization and I do find that it's similar to bullet journaling. I would be utterly lost without @muchelleb 's content. I ended up paying for her LifeMap template pack because I got so overwhelmed by the possibilities of Notion, and I needed something that would work for me right away without too much research and development. She is all-in on Notion and honestly uses it for way more stuff than I do, so I'm really only scratching the surface of the templates' potential. My number one use for Notion is taking notes at work. I work on projects with really long timelines and tons of subtasks and follow-ups and checklists. It has been so helpful to be able to essentially keep separate "notebooks" for each project, as well as one just for one-on-one meetings with my boss. Right at my fingertips I have all my documentation on a given project or issue. So much better than a bujo, where I would have to flip around looking for all the different meetings and pages where I wrote down notes about this project. I feel way less scattered. I haven't had as much success using it for my personal life, but I think part of the problem is that I really switch off when I leave work, so I'm not consulting it in the evenings or on weekends. I am absolutely going to copy your Home Operating Manual, though. GENIUS. Makes me wonder if maybe my issue is that I'm trying to use Notion the same way for work and for personal stuff, but I don't need it to do the same things. Anyway, sorry for the super long comment. Didn't mean for this to turn into my life story. Looking forward to seeing how it goes for you and how your pages develop!
My only concern with using Notion still is that our information we're putting in, is not being encrypted by Notion so if someone were to gain access to Notion they could see our information without us even knowing. They had said in the past that they were going to do so but we have yet to see the update on that. I'm wondering if you know any more information about that.
For your recipes I suggest keeping physical backups of them. One time I went to make one of my favorite chicken recipes and the website/blog domain had been disabled/terminated! That has happened to me more than once!
Very interesting tool! I feel like you are someone who is at the forefront of what will be a new "thing" or trend. I don't care much about trends but if Bullet journaling has gone mainstream (and it has, even in Sweden, then this might also eventually). I find it interesting because of how it might be an address to what hands on bujoing can't (links etc). I use bookmarks a lot, but rarely go back through them, and it's difficult to get a good overview. Pinterest is good, but this Notion seems too combine a lot of those functions, without it being a place like Pinterest where you scroll and pin, scroll and pin... And get lost in it. I like that this looks like a more productive and versatile tool. I might try it. Will look into atomic habits and maybe also the Tiago book. Thanks for the tips! Love from Sweden
I use Notion as my calendar with links to all the resources I need; shopping list, budget, UA-cam videos, etc. It would be lovely if you create functional templates for download. This will really help to level up the benefits we get from Notion. Sending you love & light 💞💞
I’ve been waiting for you to try out notion! Loved this video can’t wait to see how you customize your dashboards in the future! Keep the notion content coming! 🎉
I'm so happy you are sharing your process!!! I decided to do my journaling in a notebook and the planning mixing notion and google calendar... I'm terrified xD December was sooo busy that I'm taking the first week of january (and maybe the second xD) to figure everithing out. I'd love to get updates on how it is working for you, thank you for sharing! lots of hugs :3
I actually have a really nerdy use of Notion : I love DND and recently I've given a try to being a Game Master, so I basically need a lot of information easily at my disposal about the world, the adventure and the characters. I use Notion as a wiki and a session planner and it's sooooo good !
Amazing Video! I've been using notion for over a year and definitely love it! Great to see you make the switch! If I could make a recommendation, you could look into Master databases (Linked database) for all of your goals and create work and personal view inyour seperate page/dashboard, I personally found it more streamlined and wasn't as overwhelming 💕
CAN'T WAIT FOR THE CLOSET GOAL!!! I KNOW I'M SCREAMING BUT I JUST LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE YOUR ORGANIZATION VIDEOS AHAHAH ok I will calm myself down. Love your channel and news letters! Greetings from Colombia!😝
i´m finding Notion a little overwhelming for me 😵💫 there's a reason why never got the hang of bujo ... i'm a simple person, i go for a simple planner where i can write and keep track of my tasks and events 😅
What do you use for each day’s to dos? I’m currently in my bullet journal but I’m wanting to start digitising everything so that I don’t have to carry so many notebooks with me whenever I go somewhere. I’m assuming you use Notion as a sort of ‘collections’ site, and Google Calendar for your important events?
This is slightly off-topic, but what is a payday formula and how do the logistics of that work? Is it like saying ‘15% of my pay will go towards food, 20% will go towards housing,’ etc. and then keeping track of expenditures in each category to make sure they don’t exceed the set limit? If so, how many categories do you recommend? I’d love to learn more about that. 💰 Thanks~~
Can we see you use Notion on your mobile phone? I think it will be interesting to see if Notion works just as well on mobile as it is on a laptop/computer.
Can you make a video about how you organize the information you learn? I feel like I have notebooks full of knowledge but accessing it or organizing it in a way that makes sense is confusing.
Not a big fan of notion. I tried it for a very short period when I was studying. My biggest issue was that I found that the free version was quite limited and I don’t want a subscription for my planner/note system I want a one per year type of purchase. And even the cheapest subscription is way more expensive than a plain notebook or a calendar (or both together). When I tried the free version of notion I reached the limit within 30min.
I love watching Notion videos, but when I used mine I noticed after weeks that it was deleting previous entries. And customer support wasn't able to help me in any significant way so I stopped using it 😭
I am also learning how to use Notion, which can be very overwhelming. Check out the channel Better Creating. Simon has great videos. I have learnt a lot with him.
Notion is awesome! I manage my bussiness with it, I register the sales that I made, to which client and of which product. I have databases for the clients and for the products which are linked to the sales database. It is really awesome, but I bought a course to achieve that. It is however in portuguese and it's from Helena dos Santos (www.youtube.com/@helenadossantos/streams). But a quick tip for the headings, if you write "#" + hit the space bar it creates a h1, for h2 is ## and for h3 is ### 👌🏽
A monthly or quarterly update on your Notion journey would be great! What’s working, what’s not, what you added or changed, etc
i am CRAZYYY about notion, i love mine so much, my whole life is there and i get very organized and is very aesthetic pleasing but is crazy how can i get my finances, routines, schedules, reading list, goals, uni.. literally everything is there
I'm so glad you are upfront that there is a learning curve. Definitely took me awhile to figure out just the basics and I still struggle to do things in Notion that I think it is made to do.

Yay freebies for 2023!!! 🥳
I'm still getting used to Notion, because I really love the analog part of planning... The paper, the pens, washi tape...everything! Let's see if I can find the right balance between analog and digital...

So excited to see what you come up with in Notion. It’s an amazing program. ❤
Oh man a new book that you’re reading! Looking forward to your full review. Also love the sick history! I need to do that
Cool!! This is my first time seeing notion in action. I’ve been bullet journaling since 2016(?), but since having my baby girl in 2021 I haven’t been able to keep up with it. This year, I’m trying the Christian Planner. So far I’m really liking it!
Wow! Notion looks like fun! Yes, Let's explore together please.
ive used notion but not a lot. but i do feel super motivated now. time to explore together
Your notion is already thriving!!! Excited to see more notion content soon 🙌🏻
Yay 🎉🎉 This is the video I’ve been anxiously waiting for! 🤩🤩
6:07 my word of the year is Explore. And your reasons are the same as mine. 😊
I definitely will check out Notion. It doesn’t sound as overwhelming as other digital planning templates
I love this. I too decided to start using notion and was just looking for videos when this popped up in my subscription box!
Might try this. Nice to have lots of your digital info in one place@
Notion is kicking my butt right now! I haven't had a ton of time to really dig down into it, but I'm having such a hard time with it!
Happy 2023 you got some goal I will support you
Amazing Video!
I KNOW I'M SCREAMING BUT I JUST
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE YOUR ORGANIZATION VIDEOS AHAHAH
ok I will calm myself down.
Love your channel and news letters!
Greetings from Colombia!😝
"A word version of excel" is probably the most perfect way I've ever heard Notion described lol .
i´m finding Notion a little overwhelming for me 😵💫 there's a reason why never got the hang of bujo ... i'm a simple person, i go for a simple planner where i can write and keep track of my tasks and events 😅
Thanks for showing this.
Anyone’s help is appreciated :)
What plan type do u recommend 🤔
Happy new year 🎉🎉🎉
…and also..first!!😂
Not a big fan of notion.
Can you give us access to the databases you build/ found? :D I hate building them myself but yours are great :D
Try obsidian. You won't regret it.
My word of the year is Intentional.
I want to have a verse of the year, but haven’t decided on one yet. Anyone have any suggestions?
I can't seem to get the hang of Notion, so so far I've only been using it as a notes app TT_TT
The thing that worries me about having all my information etc in a digital space is that it can all literally disappear one day 😅
I always see people do New Year's setup. But what happens to last year's setup?
I'd love for you to review artful agenda. There is a free trial.
I love watching Notion videos, but when I used mine I noticed after weeks that it was deleting previous entries. And customer support wasn't able to help me in any significant way so I stopped using it 😭
Notion pro is free with university email account
