I'm completely dumbfounded as to why I wasn't taught this in school. Such a simple (yet we'll presented) lecture to highschoolers could potentially have such an amazing effect on global warming and our energy usage as a country. A class that educates on such things becoming a mandatory part of school curriculum could be a gamechanger. You've educated me and now there's one more household that's began recycling. Thank you so much for taking the time to make such well thought out and presented videos! It's obvious you're passionate about this stuff.
I really don't understand why there is so much reluctance to pursue the obvious solution to lots of things, including this: TAX THE CRAP OUT OF IT. For cans, it could be handled as a refundable deposit. Lots of fools say energy conservation does no good because of the "rebound effect." Well, TAX ENERGY. (Some might say this works against renewable energy as well. Well, if you just tax energy, AT WORST it's source-neutral. You could look for a way to specifically target fossil fuels, but that's not truly necessary.) What to do about grass? Legalize it, regulate it, and tax the hell out of it. Probably would work for prostitution, too, thought that gets more complex in various ways. IAC why outlaw stuff when, for most things, you're just passing up a really good source of gov't revenue and benefiting society at the same time? So much better than having to arrest people and clog up the courts.
