I have the same response when people ask why I love (all types of ) handbags. Don't eat out, don't drink alcohol, don't get mani or pedi, don't do Starbucks, I'm vegetarian so limited eat out, no lashes, no subscriptions... all so I can buy a piece that I love. Thanks for sharing.
Me too. My usual answer is I don’t drink, smoke or gamble. I don’t get my nails done either. That’s more habit than anything else. I am just from a generation where nail boutiques weren’t around, everyone did their own and I have kept doing that. I don’t do Starbucks either because they don’t have much of a presence in Melbourne. They tried but when you can get good Italian coffee on almost every street they didn’t stand a chance.

Enjoy watching your videos Melinda! Regarding video editing software, your daughter is right about iMovie. As an ex-TV producer and video editor, I believe iMovie suits the needs for most UA-camrs. While I have an Adobe suite subscription, it's only worth it if you're using all of the programs including Photoshop and After Effects. I dabble in After Effects, but it's not a very beginner-friendly program. Anyone just wanting to do basic cuts and add simple graphics and music should utilize free software like iMovie or DaVinci Resolve.

That is incredibly difficult and traumatic, especially considering you were honoring her privacy and not talking widely about it. It makes complete sense that you would have waves of grief coming at the most unexpected times. In a way you may have been subconsciously anticipating this grief for twenty years... that takes a huge toll. I am glad you have such a strong support structure in your family to help you through this. Thank you for sharing how you are doing now. I'm sorry that troll made what was an unbelievably difficult time even worse with her bizarre insensitive and mean comments.

Malinda you have such a beautiful heart. I lost my mom at a young as of 18.she too had cancer. And it was the hardest thing to see my mom suffer. As you said I would give anything and everything to make her better. It’s been 20 yrs now that I lost her but it still feels like it was yesterday. I still cry I still think about her and I still mourn. The pain and memories will always be there but it just gets easier . Thank you for being such a beautiful person. And never apologize for your feelings. Much love and please think of those happy moments with mom . Think and praying for your heart to heal.

Most "fine" jewellery does not hold its value. I purchased a 1 carat diamond 14k ring for ~US$800. I kept it for several years and hardly worn it. This ring was advertised as "grade A & GIA certified." I did not receive the paperwork for the ring to back it up. I was shocked at the price I sold it for. I sold it (though an online store) for US150.00. I am glad I sold it to someone who could use it. I am way pickier when it comes to "fine" jewellery as a result. I started looking into stainless steel jewellery. I have quite the collection started. Most of my pieces have held up beautifully and appear in "like new" condition. I much prefer Stainless Steel over sterling silver. IMO.

I wouldn’t listen to trolls. They don’t have any idea what they are talking about or who people that they watch on social media really are. They dont matter and it takes a total loser to try to make another feel bad for no reason. You appear to be a very lovely person whose family is everything to her. Who cares what people who dont even know you think.

I have found that Tiffany’s gold items can be a good investment but they are like handbags. You have to do your research, chose well and be prepared to play the long game. Preloved items do sell for less then retail but not necessarily less than what retail was 5-10 years ago. Cartier do sound like a better short term investment.
Yes I feel this ❤ we raised 6 children and still have 2 at home a senior and a Freshman in HS plus the oldest had some issues and came back … but still were spending so much less on things school and kid related . My 15 yr old is expansive don’t get me wrong , she is the youngest and 🤨, but 6 kids Vs 2 lol it’s a whole new life . I can only imagine an empty nest and how bittersweet

Thank you for such a fascinating Q&A! And wow... I had no idea (nor should I have known, of course) that you were dealing with your mother's illness for twenty years. That is incredibly difficult and traumatic, especially considering you were honoring her privacy and not talking widely about it. It makes complete sense that you would have waves of grief coming at the most unexpected times. In a way you may have been subconsciously anticipating this grief for twenty years... that takes a huge toll. I am glad you have such a strong support structure in your family to help you through this. Thank you for sharing how you are doing now. I'm sorry that troll made what was an unbelievably difficult time even worse with her bizarre insensitive and mean comments.

Malinda you have such a beautiful heart. I lost my mom at a young as of 18.she too had cancer. And it was the hardest thing to see my mom suffer. As you said I would give anything and everything to make her better. It’s been 20 yrs now that I lost her but it still feels like it was yesterday. I still cry I still think about her and I still mourn. The pain and memories will always be there but it just gets easier . Thank you for being such a beautiful person. And never apologize for your feelings. Much love and please think of those happy moments with mom . Think and praying for your heart to heal.

Yes when people are cruel it’s only bc they lack something or someone. And to be honest that kind of jealousy from someone goes to show how blessed we really are . If you do respond to that person just say thank you so much I appreciate you reminding me how blessed I really am . Truly our mom raised strong women.

Most "fine" jewellery does not hold its value. I purchased a 1 carat diamond 14k ring for ~US$800. I kept it for several years and hardly worn it. This ring was advertised as "grade A & GIA certified." I did not receive the paperwork for the ring to back it up. I was shocked at the price I sold it for. I sold it (though an online store) for US150.00. I am glad I sold it to someone who could use it. I am way pickier when it comes to "fine" jewellery as a result. I started looking into stainless steel jewellery. I have quite the collection started. Most of my pieces have held up beautifully and appear in "like new" condition. I much prefer Stainless Steel over sterling silver. IMO.
No it really doesn't hold value. I have a few stainless jewelry pieces and I really enjoy them.

Sweet of you to take the time to do this Melinda! Hang in there as there is no substitute for time with our grief. As a physician I understand how difficult these situations can be. I wouldn’t listen to trolls. They don’t have any idea what they are talking about or who people that they watch on social media really are. They dont matter and it takes a total loser to try to make another feel bad for no reason. You appear to be a very lovely person whose family is everything to her. Who cares what people who dont even know you think.

I have found that Tiffany’s gold items can be a good investment but they are like handbags. You have to do your research, chose well and be prepared to play the long game. Preloved items do sell for less then retail but not necessarily less than what retail was 5-10 years ago. Cartier do sound like a better short term investment.

Yes I feel this ❤ we raised 6 children and still have 2 at home a senior and a Freshman in HS plus the oldest had some issues and came back … but still were spending so much less on things school and kid related . My 15 yr old is expansive don’t get me wrong , she is the youngest and 🤨, but 6 kids Vs 2 lol it’s a whole new life . I can only imagine an empty nest and how bittersweet

Awe thank you so much! I am so sorry to hear your mom was diagnosed with that. No that's not what she had. She had polycythemia which progressed into myleofibrois which is a very rare bone marrow cancer. Basically her body stopped producing blood. Saying prayers for your mom and for you. Xoxo

Thank you! I use Dazzle Dry, it is like a gel and dries in 5 min, but makes your nails healthy and comes off easy with a cotton ball and acetone.
