Starting up a phone case business? Want to know how to make phone cases at home? I've had lots of questions on how I make my sublimation printed phone cases for my small business. So I'm here with a tutorial on how to print phone cases. I show you the phone case supplies you will need, how to design your case and how to sublimate on your phone case blanks.

Ikr! I really want to make phone cases but I added up how much it will all be and it was £200. I suggest transcription. You can get an average of £200 a month!

hey polly! just a quick update. i got a sublimation printer which i am superrrrr happy with! :) im gonna use the cartridges for sublimation (refillable) unfortunately i cant rlly afford the photo shop you mentioned. im gonna use pics art to make designs though. for my bday im gonna try to get an apple pencil and procreate to start doing better designs. thanks for all the guidance!!
What kind of printer did you use? Brand wise?

Hello Polly ! Thank you for your video :). Unfortunately I have an issue. When I sublimate my design on my phone case the black color turn to a dark blue... It isn`t 100% dark. Do you have any tips about that ?
Sounds like there’s an issue with your ink. Black can be weird though! My greys can come out brown sometime.
Some sublimation inks need icc profiles, so check with your supplier.
You’ll probably just have to experiment to see what works 😊
Heyyy, this video really helped but I have a question?
So I have wanted to start a business and have all the supplies, including, parchment paper, sublimation paper, heat transfer tape, the heat press machine and the epson L-3150, so I've been trying to fix my problem and switched my printer from a canon to a epson but I'm so scared I got the wrong printer x
You’ll have to google it your printer to see if you can make it work for sublimation 😊

When I'm printing cases I notice my black isn't a true black.... I'm using the same printer and ink as you. Would you have any ideas how to make as vibrant as the other colours?
It’s hard to say, black when sublimating can be tricky. Play around with different temperatures & how long you leave your blanks on the press. Probably sounds weird but make sure the black is actually 100% black too!

If you mean foil, I really have no idea I’m sorry! It’s not something I’d want to try as it will get very hot

How do you clean the cases ? Like if I cleaned my phone with alcohol or a multipurpose cleaner would it ruin the cases ?

Can you use a laser jet printer?
No laser jet printers can be converted for sublimation printing. You’ll need a new printer anyway for sublimation
Do u have to use that printer??
You need to use a printer that is brand new and is compatible with sublimation inks. The epson ecotank is the best one I’ve used! 😊
Do you REALLY need a Heat Press? Is it that necessary?? Is it also posible to use an iron? Or a flat iron hahah?
Yeah you do need the heat press! Though you should watch my video where I used an iron to sublimate 😊

This is a great video! I love the detail 😊What print settings do you use for your EPSON ECOTANK ? Can you put a video together showing how you make the colors pop !
Thanks for watching! I go over it in this video, so I won’t make another one 😊 just put the print settings to high quality and remember that sublimation print outs (so the paper from the printer) isn’t an accurate representation of the final colours. The best way to test out the final colours is by actually printing the design on something
Hey! So I also use procreate and I want to get into making phone cases in the future but I’m still confused on what pixels/resolution to set my canvas to, so the image doesn’t look blurry or bad when I decide to print and sublimate.
Hey! Thanks for watching my video 😊 What resolution do you normally use? If you’re printing directly from your iPad you won’t be able to print to the highest quality. You need to change the print settings to high quality on a computer

You can’t use other people’s work, so yes you’ll have to design your own or pay an artist to make them for you 😊

I’d don’t know of any other apps sorry! Procreate is only £10 & is the best drawing app for the iPad. Adobe fresco is good if you have creative cloud 😊
You can print from an iPad, but it’s different & there’s a lack of settings for page size and higher quality etc

You can use an iron as well, it may take longer but I’ve seen it work.

ok so likeee can you just press it and keep pressing it with the cricut raspberry easy press?
If it’s a hand held one (like an iron!) you won’t be able to. See the video I posted yesterday as the quality sucksss. Especially the phone cases. Spend the money and get a good press! 😊

Yes! As otherwise you’ll just be printing a normal piece of paper

I’ve also seen a few people saying that you could use a steam free iron instead of a heat press as it’s doing basically the same thing, applying heat. Would this be right?
Nope! Definitely not! You need the pressure from the heat press and it needs to be kept completely still otherwise you’ll end up with ghosting. You’ll have to be superhuman to get an iron to work 😂 I wish it was that easy and cheap though!

It needs to be a new printer, that’s never had ink in it before and can be sublimation compatible. It can be an inkjet printer, mine is 😊

@@julianap1191 // Yes! It is an inkjet printer. I didn’t rlly look for the refill cartridges so I don’t know if there are any, but remember that refillable cartridges and sublimation ink are both required for heat transfer. Hope this reply helped!

It needs to be a suitable printer that can be converted into a sublimation printer. It will have to be brand new (with no ink in it) and it will have to be inkjet 😊 all sublimation printers are inkjet, not all inkjet printers can be made into a sublimation printer though!

Thanks for the tips! But the heat press machine is expensive in my country so is it okay to use the cricut easypress machine? It works like the heat press machine!
If it’s a handheld one, it won’t work well 😊
Can I use a transfer laser printer instead? I already have one at home but I don’t know if it will work
It needs to be a brand new printer that has had no other inks in it 😊 it also needs to be able to take sublimation ink in some way

I’ve never heard/used this printer so I have no idea! But you need a separate printer alongside your main printer, you’ll need a new printer that’s never been used before 😊
If you google the printer name with sublimation next to it or sublimation printers, it will help you find out if you can use it 😊

This is the first time I'm hearing of sublimation whats the difference between it and vinyl? Which is better sublimation or vinyl and why pls hun? X
I’ve never done vinyl before, but sublimation transfers into the product, making it permanent and unremovable as it’s in the fabric/polymer. You have unlimited colour options with sublimation, so your designs can be as detailed as you want them! I believe vinyl can come off over time and it can only be in one colour. Vinyl doesn’t need a good heat press, it can be done with an iron.

Quick question I have this problem with my sublimation. Whenever I try to sublimate white dots always appear on the foil and I don’t know why. Please help
I don’t know what you mean by foil, but it sounds like you need to clean your printer

i have a quick question about drawing on a 9 x 21 cm canvas on procreate? I'm not drawing the illustrations that small (it takes up nearly half the canvas, but it is quite pixelated. I have tried using other brushes but I'm not sure why they are all pixelated... do you happen to know why...?

It’s already sealed, no need for varnish 😊

Yeah, you just have to guess really! It’s a pain, but it’s how it works 😊

Can you use a cricut heat press for these cases?
I wouldn’t recommend it as you have to hold them & press down yourself. They’re made for vinyl/transfers not sublimation!

Yeah, you do! You need to have a new printer (that’s never had any ink in it before!) & one that you can change to work with sublimation. I cover the two methods in the video ☺️
Your sublimation printer has to be separate to your normal printer

Hi, I’ve just found your channel.
I’ve got the same mug paper as you (and the same printer, although I use Affinity designer) and I’m struggling to get the image to print in the right space on the mug paper.
Any tips?
Make sure you set the paper size in the print settings to the size of the paper you are printing on. You’ll probably have to do this manually 😊 I’m not near my computer so can’t tell you the exact steps, but on the drop down list where you can pick the paper size, there will be an option to create a custom size
For the designing of the cases, can you get pictures of the internet to use?
No you can’t, you need to make your own!

Yeah you do! You need a new printer that’s never had inks in it before and you will also need a printer to print out your usual printing stuff 😊
Basically you need the sublimation printer to be separate from ‘normal’ printing 😊

I’m not entirely sure what you mean, but I had to buy the inks separately and it uses CMYK colours

I mean it’s either CMYK or RGB and most printers take CMYK. RGB printers are rare and aren’t for sublimation. They’re the only colours

You have to use everything I mentioned in the video, otherwise it won’t work & you’ll waste money. You need the sublimation ink, paper & correct printing materials.

How long did it take until orders started flowing in for you?
I already had my shop up and running, I had a video go semi viral on TikTok 1 month after I opened and that is what started my sales. I added phone cases about 6 months later
What size on pro create do you draw on so you can print to the right size for the phone cases??
To the size of the paper, if you’re using the paper for mugs/phone cases 😊
Can you use normal paper/ ink/ printer or do you need sublimation ink printer and paper
You need the sublimation ink and paper and a suitable printer 😊

Hello thx for the video it helped a lot I just have one problem I have got everything I need for this but when I try to actually get the design on the phone at the heat press bit it doesn’t transfer and it just stays blank do u have any tips
It sounds like you’re using either the wrong paper, wrong ink, wrong temperature or even the wrong type of phone case. It could also be a combination of several!

Tysm! You're so kind to share this!! I do have a question. When you purchase a heat press does it have something where I can place the print and case or do I meed to make a serperate purchase for a better surface?
Your heat press should come with everything you need 😊 mine has a heat proof mat thing & another mat (I think it’s some sort of foam?) to absorb excess ink.
I put grease proof paper down, to protect both my printing surface and the top of the press from getting ink residue on products
