I can't get over that Capcom allowed Arika to keep the rights to all the original characters. I've heard it was a show of faith but doing this nowadays is unheard of.
SF3's graphics are as beautiful as the first day I saw them back in the 90's but still, the blocky polygons of Tekken, VF and EX look equally nostalgic to people like us.
Agreed. The flat shaded polygon style (at least the arcade versions) still has that nostalgia factor IMHO. It’s the first gen of textured polygons that look real rough nowadays.
Ex Plus Alpha and EX3 hands down are my personal favorites. It really got me into fighting games more. EX Plus Alpha, EX3, Alpha 3, X-men vs Street Fighter, Tekken 2 and 3 made me love fighting games forever.
Fighting EX Layer does have them in the roster. Along with Terry as a guest character 🤔 To be part of SF again. I guess? Arika's characters are alright.
My best friend and i played Street Fighter EX plus Alpha like crazy back in the PS1 day and had a blast. All these years later I still love its soundtrack and hope something can be worked out legally to get Skullomania back into a new Street Fighter game.
EX+alpha was the game that really sucked me into the fighting game genre, and the EX super moves made me fall in love with the Marvel Versus Capcom games, and that pace and rhythm of the combat. I still hold the EX series in high regard. I cant count the number of late nights my handful of close friends sat in front of the PS1 playing into the wee hours of the morning. SKULLLLOCRUSHAAAAA!
SF EX plus Alpha was and still is my favourite SF game. SFII (World Warrior) is probably my second. The characters were varied, each had 2 or more Super Combos and it’s the only SF series that allowed you to cancel a Super or string Super Combos into other Super Combos. Some characters could even teleport or slide around the 3D arena, like Akuma, M. Bison, Dhalsim, allowing them to evade attacks in a different way. Then there’s the OST which features some of the best music I know of in any SF games. Ken’s, Ryu’s, M. Bison’s, Akins’s music for example are Amazon tracks. Plus the Arika characters are refreshingly different to the traditional SF roster.
This was my game. People loved this game really! The last two EX games became water-down. Allen Snyder was my guy, Blair, and Kaira This game was beast! I beat anyone in this game skulla crusher
They're canon but what i don't understand is why capcam made them canon when they don't have the rights to them. Why make them canon when they know they will never be in a new street fighter game?
I think the reason as to why it isn't talked about, as much, isn't because no one liked it, but rather not many played it. SF:EX came out when Capcom saturated the market. It also had next to no media exposure. I only found out about the game at Hollywood Video via a cut out that was over shadowed by another Capcom fighter [I think it was MVC]. I only saw one ad in PSM during the time before I had it. Even when I saw it, young me taught it was a t.v. show 'cause 3d models cartoons was also a thing in the late 90's. I would have never asked my folks to get me the game, if a friend from school didn't get the game (by accident-- his mom went to get him the latest SF and the salesman gave her SF:EX).
I remember my best friend's older brothers playing this game in his basement smoking cigarettes and drinking beers back when this game came it. I had not heard of it much anywhere and there was no hype but these guys knew back then as hardcore fighting gamers. So I learned about it through them. It's a fun and solid experience with definitely its own take.
Never understand the negativity towards this game, absolutely loved ex plus alpha on the ps1, the super combo system was great, it played and felt very street fighter, the music was awesome and the characters were so cool. Such a massively underated gem
Though the games felt weird and fugily at times, theres no denying that fantastic soundtrack! Theres a track for everybody and just keeps you plaaying to hear more! Theres a reason Maxi Dood uses Sakura's theme " Precious Heart" at the wnd of each vid!😂❤
I agree with you but unfortunately just like an SNK Capcom has a bad habit of creating new characters and forget about characters that people actually want to see come back
I discovered this game yesterday in the weirdest way. I was having a bad time in manila and decided to go to china town. In the mall, there was a dude playing on an old playstation and an old minitor. He was in training mode fighting a blue dummy. I asked him: is this tekken or sf??? He explained what it was and invited me to play after i said i play sf6. Even helped me with shoryukens by tzlling me i needed to put my tshirt over the dpad to improve motion inputs. By far the best interaction in my entire trip in manila.
For me this is one of the best streetfighters ever made along with EX2 plus and Alpha 1-3, I have so many good memories of it, from clearing all the combo trials to reaching 117 wins in Survival mode with my boy Ken and the absolutely banging soundtrack, it was such a let down for me that the ex games were not included in the streetfighter anniversary collection, would lovw to see a modern day rerelease.
Ex series had much more interesting new characters compared to sf 5 and sf 6. Skullomania, D. Dark, Darun etc... This additional roster were enough for a fighting game on its own, which Arika really did later with Fighting Layer EX
EX series was... It was okay. The weird part was the mix up with Arika's cast of characters. It was neat to see SF experiment with 3D. It kinda works. Kinda not so much 🤔 I remember some folks were crazy hyped. To me it was.. kinda difficult to recommend. I only played it in arcades. But it did get a home release. It was not on my radar back then.
Pretty much what I thought of it, word for word. I enjoyed it for what it was, and still like it today. Ex 1 and 2 are my favorites. Reminds me of rival schools, another cult classic. I think it went off the rails a bit with EX3.
Back in my highschool days when the first EX game released on the PSX I would have my cousins cracking up every time I would use D. Dark's explosive but I would shout out "exclusive". Years later after not playing the EX trilogy I would do it again at a friends apartment when we played against each other and now he just like my cousins can't get it out of his head
I never cared about the graphics, the gameplay is what i cared about. And the EX series probably ended up being my favorite street fighters in just pure fun.
A friend of mine had a PS1. This was the first game I played on the system and we played many many hours. It was a great game. If I recall correctly also the first game with combotrials which was revolutionary for the time.
Fun Fact: Street Fighter EX (1996) almost pushed an M-rating for strong bloody violence, because of Doctrine Dark and Garuda's bladed moves in the Japanese arcade release of the game, and had to be cut out of the revisioned games and sequels to get T-ratings.
I m suprised you did not mentioned Garuda which kinda iconic character of EX series. This game was top dog at 1997s with awesome stage musics. Even if they make some kind of remaster (same gameplay) i would dearly buy it again.
I wish there was mention of sf ex plus alpha 2. Especially since few times you mentioned how these characters didn't appear is sequels when many (all?) of them did actually end up in 2nd game.
How did you make this video without mentioning Garuda??? I loved this series growing up. I remember everyone thought it was weird cuz Street Fighter was suddenly 3D, including myself. The new characters were awesome except for Alan. As if Dan wasn't bad enough, make him a ginger LOL
EX2 Plus and Alpha 3 are my favorite Street Fighter games. I stopped playing the Street Fighter games when SFIV came because of the new graphics design.
I probably would have enjoyed the Street Fighter series more if they continued to pursue this style for the game even as a side project. I felt the same way when MK experimented during Deception/Deadly Alliance/Armageddon but then reverted back to a stiff 2D game with 3D graphics going forward. Crazy to think this was 1996, the game looked amazing for it's time.
I wish that since we got some shoe for Alpha Characters in Street Fighter four and five. The end up bringing back some Street Fighter EX characters for Street Fighter 6
I’m not gonna lie I’ve liked all the street fighter games I’ve played but the best one I’ve ever played is ex plus alpha hands down and that game will forever be the best street fighter in my opinion one can hope they make a remaster of this game for sure
The only thing that makes EX feel wrong is the lack of wake-ups. And EX3's Arcade Mode was amazing, but had too few battles (at only 7); and III New Gen was the only one WORSE, at only 6 (*counting* Gill!).
Looks a lot like the old X-Men Mutant Academy game I had for the PS1 like 20 plus years ago. I guess the same gaming brand decided to try their hand at a Street Fighter game?? Not surprised it got mixed reviews, as the X-Men games they made weren't exactly anything to brag about either.
I had a lot of fun with ex plus alpha I was a bit of a pro sf2 turbo player but gave up playing before super turbo came out my freind bought this round and I kicked his ass as it was very similar to the street fighter I all ready knew good times
The EX series had a fantastic OST.. One I still love listening to to this day.
I agree. The OST is definitely in my Playlist. I love the EX games. I'm still holding out for a collection.
Street Fighter EX and Fighting Layer both by Arika both fantastic music.
Hell yeah ex 1s soundtrack is arguably my all time fav ost
The jazz fusion was so awesome!
Best OST in the series
Crazy how the Ex series’ OST had the longevity. You still hear it in the background of so many YT videos
Hard to believe this was the very first
3d street fighter.
I can still hear Hokuto and Ryu's theme under the cherry blossoms.. when trying to master the combos to unlock evil ryu 😂
Maximilian and Precious Heart. 🔥
@@matmusada If he owns the rights to that song, I would not be surprised
Would love to see skullo and D.Dark in SF 6 . Loved the EX series so much
EX will always be my favorite, Kairi, Garuda, Allen and Blair have a special place in my heart.
I can't get over that Capcom allowed Arika to keep the rights to all the original characters. I've heard it was a show of faith but doing this nowadays is unheard of.
It was actually their first crossover title, even before XvSF!
Give em credit it was their first time
Going 3D.
Well actually rival schools tho.
What a shame really. Think of how many games Blair Dame could have appeared in, especially Marvel vs Capcom. 😉
Every once in a while game companies
Decide to go 3D with their games.
Even Sega done it and still going.
Doctrine Dark has like a "Get Over Here" move like Scorpion from Mortal Kombat.
I will always love the EX Franchise. It was a huge part of my childhood and the soundtrack gets played almost daily. Wish it got more love
The Street Fighter EX series is super underrated, three great games that still plays great and the music is chefs kiss.
Fans hated it.
Some actually like it while others
Hated the change.
I like the forgivable inputs and cool supercombos that you can link together. For me personally the soundtrack is the best of any street fighter title
Ex Plus Alpha and EX3 hands down are my personal favorites. It really got me into fighting games more. EX Plus Alpha, EX3, Alpha 3, X-men vs Street Fighter, Tekken 2 and 3 made me love fighting games forever.
EX 2 is my favorite
Same here, friend. I got addicted and acquired a bunch of fighter games. Ur list + more.
I'm down for Skullo and D.Dark to make a return
Fighting EX Layer does have them in the roster. Along with Terry as a guest character
🤔 To be part of SF again. I guess?
Arika's characters are alright.
Street Fighter EX Plus @ was such an underrated series. D Dark, Area, Blair, & Pullum were Street Fighter who need more time in the spotlight.
Gotta admit that SF EX2 Plus is still my favorite SF game
EX2 Plus was pretty huge in the Hong Kong arcade scene in the early 2000s
I played the living shit out of that game on ps1
My best friend and i played Street Fighter EX plus Alpha like crazy back in the PS1 day and had a blast. All these years later I still love its soundtrack and hope something can be worked out legally to get Skullomania back into a new Street Fighter game.
Skullomania needs to come back
Skullomania is still runnin wild, brother
SF EX plus Alpha is my favorite Street Fighter game. Best fighting game soundtrack ever also.
EX+alpha was the game that really sucked me into the fighting game genre, and the EX super moves made me fall in love with the Marvel Versus Capcom games, and that pace and rhythm of the combat. I still hold the EX series in high regard.

We should get a EX4 apparently the Arika characters are canon in the Street Fighter universe.
I want Capcom to Buy Arika, & have THEM make Street Fighter EX4 with the Same Gameplay as Fighting EX Layer.
Or a Street Fighter vs. EX crossover but that just be another EX game anyway.
They're canon but what i don't understand is why capcam made them canon when they don't have the rights to them. Why make them canon when they know they will never be in a new street fighter game?
Don't know why Capcom made the EX characters canon I guess they have hope they be in a Street Fighter game.
@@destinyseeker9477 they should buy the rights to them if they're really canon.
Big Daddy Top Hat - top G!

I agree with the others when it comes to the music. It's just an amazing soundtrack that I go back to from time to time.

I loved using ChuLi’s hienshu. It made her unstoppable.

I wish these characters stayed in the Street Fighter games

Street Fighter Ex is the Dragonball GT of the Street Fighter series 😂😂
Spot on!
This was my game man!!! The links between supers was awesome.i miss it so much

Weird? Have u look at street fighter 6 cast? All them woke character and none of them are bad guys except jp smfh lol smh 😒🍵.....
@@gokublack3107 I am well aware 6 is just as bizarre. But looking back EX was something else.
I instantly have memories of that guy that says "Expllow-sivvv."
Bring back Skullomania Capcom!
Were a fantastic game, good ost, combo mechanism, cancels and very original characters. So cool.
ex3 is my favorite street fighter game to this day

i still play the first EX game once in a while and that chun li theme is epic
I was just talking to a guy who said this game was horrible, This game was awesome in my eyes, I wish we could get an updated port one day.
I never cared about the graphics, the gameplay is what i cared about. And the EX series probably ended up being my favorite street fighters in just pure fun.

Ex was amazing!
You left out the Spin off of the game that was more like a sequel to these games, Fighting EX Layer i has all he non-street fighter charicters.
20:40..
He left out Fighting Layer.
SF EX is a great series, especially EX2. I think it went mostly unsung because Capcom wasn't the DEV. EX2 is very much like a 3d SF Alpha 3 lol.
I loved these games a as kid. I would love to see some of these characters in SF6. Garuda was my personal favorite.
The DHCs in this game were so exciting...
Actually, SF ex is my favorite SF game of all time. The fighting system was great and I had tons of fun playing with friends.
Ex was pretty popular in asia.
Street Fighter EX+ Alpha & Rival Schools were my reasons to buy a PSX. Darkstalkers 3 was an added bonus.
the animation of this game is a top tier one its way better than modern games the hit impact nd hitstop is too epic for a 90s video game
Next up, Fighter’s EX Legacy, yeeeaaaa!
Midway did it with MK 4.
SNK did it with maximum impact.
And the fans were pissed.
I had one of the EX games which had an amazing post arcade mode battle a bit like Tekken Force...
I wish that since we got some shoe for Alpha Characters in Street Fighter four and five. The end up bringing back some Street Fighter EX characters for Street Fighter 6
best 3d game rendition than the modern sf
genres
EX was the best way to play Street Fighters for PS owners back in the day
They should bring in a sewer type level where you are playing in a foot of water. That looked cool
SF3rd strike & CvsSNK were the peak of this company
I love the EX series!
And EX3's Arcade Mode was amazing, but had too few battles (at only 7); and III New Gen was the only one WORSE, at only 6 (*counting* Gill!).
how bold of you to assume that ex+ alpha wasnt one of my beloved childhood games

I loved the EX games when they released. Skullomania is just best boy ever
They were really good games. Definitely didn't get the love the should've
I absolutely loved this game!!
Alpha 3 is my personal favorite SF
Ex plus alpha is a classic. I had blisters on my fingers from playing this 😂
i really like this games version of the hurrican kick
Strictly speaking EX want really part of the street fighter franchise as it was made by Akira studio
The critical rehab of the EX series continues-- no longer are these games the ones nobody remembers, now they're the weird ones.
Hell yes. Street fighter ex was Sooo good
Perhaps some of these characters may make it to the Street Fighter 6 roster 🤔
Please More Street Fighter EX content ❤
I had a lot of fun with ex plus alpha I was a bit of a pro sf2 turbo player but gave up playing before super turbo came out my freind bought this round and I kicked his ass as it was very similar to the street fighter I all ready knew good times
Id love to see garuda in sf6.
For me its either Doctrine Dark or Vulcano Rosso.
@airjapp23 The Akrika characters are pretty sick. To be fair, I'd be happy with any of them in sf6
